iPhone 6 Begins Shipping to Customers for Sept 19th Delivery
Apple begin accepting pre-orders for the iPhone 6 on Friday, September 12th. The first of those orders are beginning to ship to customers. Verizon sent notices to customers today with tracking numbers for their early orders.
Despite the early shipping, FedEx will hold shipments for simultaneous delivery on launch day — Friday, September 19th. Despite the coordinated effort, some new iPhones may slip through and arrive a day early or so.

AT&T Executive: ‘Amazing to See the Volume’ as iPhone 6 Debut Tops 5s and 5 Launches
While Apple’s launch-day supplies for the iPhone 6 are holding up fairly well so far, the larger iPhone 6 Plus has been sold out as shipping estimates move to 3-4 weeks. Overall, demand appears to be high as many expected, with the new form factor and larger displays serving to entice new and upgrade customers.
AT&T executive Ralph de la Vega addressed the iPhone 6 launch in comments at the the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference this morning, citing “amazing” volume with hundreds of thousands of orders taken according to Fierce Wireless.
“It’s amazing to see the volume,” he said, adding that the “systems are rocking” and “everything is going well.” He said demand for the new phones is “better than last year and they’re better than the prior year [before that].”
“Every time there is a change in [iPhone] design, there’s an uptake,” he said. “I think this design is particularly good.”
Carriers are battling fiercely for iPhone 6 customers, with many touting trade-in offers to help keep customers on board or attract new ones. Carriers are also pushing hard to convert customers to newer plans that uncouple device and service pricing, financing the device over a period of 12 months or more rather than offering outright subsidies.

Apple Now Taking Pre-Orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Through U.S. Online Store
Three hours after it began taking pre-orders via the Apple Store app, Apple has now begun taking pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus through its official U.S. online store. Currently, all iPhone 6 models are showing a delivery date of September 19, while all iPhone 6 Plus models are estimated to ship in 7-10 business days.
Apple’s online store comes online once again as many users experienced technical problems while attempting to pre-order both models on the Apple Store app. Several U.S. carriers including AT&T and Verizon have also been experiencing problems with pre-orders, with both of their respective sites crashing for many users. Those interested in buying an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus directly from Apple’s website should likely do so right away, as supplies are sure to run out within the next few hours.
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will be available in stores beginning next Friday, September 19. The smaller 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is offered in 16, 64, and 128 GB capacities for $199, 299, and $399, respectively, with a two-year contract. Contract-free pricing for the device also begins at $649. Meanwhile, the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus is available in 16, 64, and 128 GB storage capacities for $299, $399 and $499, respectively, with a two-year contract. iPhone 6 and 6 Plus preorders are live in the UK
Even if you have been living under a rock for the past few days, chances are that rock will’ve told you about the new iPhones in town. We imagine there are more than a fair few of you chomping at the bit for them, too, so it’s our duty to remind you that preorder day has arrived. And, assuming the new handsets will be relatively popular, you’ll want to consider your options if you’re determined to get in on the first batch. Whether it’s the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 or the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus you’re after, basically every store and carrier under Sol is ready to supply you with one right now — or give you an IOU for September 19th, at least. If you want to keep it simple and buy a phone outright, you might want to head straight to Apple’s online store and stake your claim (you can also reserve one for in-store pick-up here). If you prefer your carrier alliances, however, then of course you’ve got your pick of the big four.
EE, for starters, will sell you a 16GB iPhone 6 or 6 Plus on contracts of £51 and £64 per month, respectively, when you lay down £30 up-front. Need more storage? Well, everything then hops on the £64 per month tariff, with only the 64GB 6 Plus demanding a higher down-payment of £50. That’s also how much you’ll need in-wallet to reserve a 128GB iPhone 6, with the Plus requiring a one-off £150 at that storage capacity.
Vodafone’s got the 16GB iPhone 6 on 4G contracts from £43.50 per month with a £99 upfront payment, which goes up to £48.50 per month and £129, respectively, if you need 64GB. The 128GB model is the same contract price, but £209 upfront. For the iPhone 6 Plus, the cheapest 4G contract available is £48.50 per month, will the one-off payment increasing with storage size: £99 for 16GB, £179 for 64GB, and £259 for 128GB. There are also a bunch of options available on Voda’s 3G-only plans, if you’re not that bothered about high-speed mobile internet.

The cheapest 4G option Carphone Warehouse has to offer is the 16GB iPhone 6 for £38.50 per month and a £50 upfront. Increasing the storage capacity only bumps up the amount you need to pay outright, with 64- and 128-gig models needing £130 and £210 upfront, respectively. The iPhone 6 Plus is also available for £38.50 per month, and a down-payment of £130 for the 16GB model and £210 for 64GB. The contract price goes up slightly to £43.50 if you want 128GB, in addition to a £200 upfront. (All these are Vodafone contracts, FYI).

Is the new iPhone a threat to Android?
Every year, when Apple introduce their new iPhone to the world, everyone is asking the same question – Is it good enough to be a threat to Android? It’s one of the most complicated questions, but the answer to it in simple way is that Apple iOS 8 or even the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are definitely not a threat to Android, but why not?
When we talk about Android, we talk about all the OEM’s like Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC and many more. For a comparison, let’s look at the results of last year, when in Q3 2013, more than 250 million smartphones were sold and out of that number, more than 200 million phones were powered by Android. Even when the most competitive rival Apple and Samsung are compared to each other, Samsung sold around 80 million smartphones while Apple made it to 30 million smartphones only.
Yes, Apple new iPhone series might be a threat to the flagship Android smartphones, even TechRepublic thinks that Apple might give Android a run for their money, but I think otherwise. For example, they call the new design ‘elegant’ but I think they forgot when it is about elegance, there are devices like the HTC One M8, LG G3 and many others which are a symbol of elegance. They also mentioned about the mobile wallet and the wearable device, but on Android, we already got that.
We did a little comparison of iPhone 6 with Galaxy S5 and Note 4, and also of iPhone 6 Plus with One Plus One and Note 4. All the ‘magical’ features of the new iPhone 6, most of them are already available on different Android devices. Tim Cook told Wall Street Journal that he is expecting Android users to switch to iPhone, but that number will be nothing but just a small fraction in our opinion.
Ron Amadeo of Ars Technica also shared a comparison of iPhone 6 with the Nexus 4. Yes, Nexus 4 which was released in 2012, and you will be amazed to see that both smartphones have a lot of features in common.
Android is leading the smartphone market with more than 85% share, so I think it’s safe to say that the new iPhone(s) will never be a threat to our beloved Android. The Android flagship smartphones will definitely face a tough time from it, but in the end, we all know who will win. ASUS asks: Would you prefer 6 ZenFones or 1 Apple?
It looks like everybody in the smartphone industry is having a go at Apple‘s new iPhone announcements. ASUS‘ attempt is a pretty good one, claiming that you can get 6 ZenFones – shaped in a 6, of course – for the price of one “Apple”, presumably referring to the large individual cost of Apple’s new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. While ASUS’ latest ZenFone, the ZenFone 6, doesn’t necessarily compete with the new iPhones on a performance level, it must be said that their devices are not bad value, and it’s not at all a bad way, at least, financially, to get your family decked out with smartphones.
For reference, the ZenFone 6 is a 5-inch device carrying a dualcore Intel Atom processor 2GHz and 13MP camera. While the iPhone’s internals look quite a lot like the ZenFone’s on paper, their outright performance could not be more different. The ZenFone 6 isn’t likely to be a candidate for a pocket supercomputer and the new iPhones should be able to stick it to even the newest Android phones. But again, 6 ZenFones or 1 Apple?

Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus vs Android: The flagship showdown
Apple has announced not one, but two new iPhones, which only means one thing – there are two new flagship smartphones that have been added to the mix of already stiff competition.
But which is the best device overall in terms of the numbers? Here we are breaking down all the specs into simple, matter of fact statements so you can see which flagship smartphone is the biggest, which is the lightest, which has the highest resolution display and which has the best camera.
Enter the usual suspects – Apple iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy S5, LGG3 and Sony Xperia Z3 – and let the spec crunching begin.
Build
The Apple iPhone 6’s aluminium build measures 138.1 x 67 x 6.9mm and weighs 129g, while the iPhone 6 Plus measures 158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1mm and hits the scales at 172g.
If you are looking for the lightest of all six devices, the Apple iPhone 6 is the winner, followed by the Samsung Galaxy S5 at 145g.
For those after the slimmest, both Apple iPhones are thinner than any of the Android competitors, with the Sony Xperia Z3 taking third place for its 7.3mm build.
The largest of the bunch is the iPhone 6 Plus at 158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1mm and the most compact is the iPhone 6 at 138.1 x 67 x 6.9mm.
Display
You’ll find a 4.7-inch 1334 x 750 pixel resolution display on the Apple iPhone 6, and a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution on the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus, which means a pixel density of 326ppi and 401ppi respectively.
The biggest display award goes to both the LG G3 and the Apple iPhone 6 Plus, both offering 5.5-inches.
LG mops up the sharpest display however, with its 2560 x 1440 resolution providing a pixel density of 534ppi.
All the other Android smartphones offer a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.
The smallest display is Apple’s iPhone 6, which is 0.3-inches smaller than the next contender, and also the lowest resolution and ppi.
Processor
The Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus both feature the company’s latest A8 processor on board with 64-bit architecture, supporting the 64-bit software of iOS 8. It has the M8 coprocessor to handle motion.
Android is not 64-bit yet, which is lucky as none of the flagship Android devices support it.
All of the Android devices have a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor under the hood but the Sony Xperia Z3 has the most RAM at 3GB.
Comparing the devices like for like is very difficult: with undisclosed hardware from Apple, and different operating systems, there’s no easy way to measure them on the spec sheet.
Camera
When it comes to camera, the Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus both feature an 8-megapixel rear snapper and a 1.2-megapixel front snapper.
If you arbitrarily want highest number of pixels on the rear camera, you’ll want the Sony XperiaZ3 with its 20.7-megapixel sensor.
If you are a selfie snapper, then you’ll want the HTC One (M8) for the best front camera with its 5-megapixel offering.
This is the fiercest battleground of all, but we’d expect the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to be strong performers with the latest tech they are offering including HDR selfies. That’s not to say they will win though, we suspect the camera battle to be the hardest fought.
Battery
The Apple iPhone 6 comes with a better battery than the iPhone 5S and Apple claims it will offer 14 hours talk time and 240 hours standby, while the Apple iPhone 6 Plus is said to provide 24 hours talk time and 384 hours standby. Apple hasn’t disclosed the battery capacity, however.
For the biggest battery capacity, the Sony Xperia Z3 wins the group at 3100mAh, which means the longest standby too at 740 hours.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 and the LG G3 fight for the most amount of talk time though, both claiming up to 21 hours.
For audio playback, you’re answer is the Sony Xperia Z3 again with up to 130 hours of music playback.
The smallest battery capacity is the HTC One (M8) at 2600mAh and 496 hours standby.
Storage
Apple doesn’t offer microSD support but its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will come in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB storage capacities.
This means Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus offers the biggest internal storage options.
All the Android flagships have microSD slots for storage expansion up to 128GB, but typically offer 16 or 32GB storage.
Features
The Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has iOS 8 on board, which means a whole host of new features but its most unique offering is Apple Pay, which is launching initially in the US.
In terms of unique features for the Android handsets, the HTC One (M8) has a Duo Camera that captures depth of field information, the Samsung Galaxy S5 brings a heart sensor to the mix, theLG G3 uses laser focusing and the Sony Xperia Z3 is waterproof and lets you play PS4 games.
Prices
The new iPhone 6 will start at £539 for 16GB. The iPhone 6 Plus will start from £619 (16GB).
The cheapest SIM free handset on our panel of Android flagships is the LG G3, at £479 (16GB), which is the most affordable overall.
The iPhone 6 Plus is the most expensive and ironically has the same size display as the LG G3.
Conclusion
It depends what is most important to you as to which of the usual suspects will win you over, but if you just take them all on number value and nothing else … this is how it goes down.
The smallest, lightest and slimmest phone is the new Apple iPhone 6.
The biggest display is shared between the LG G3 and the Apple iPhone 6 Plus, but the sharpest display is the LG G3.
The highest resolution rear camera is the Sony Xperia Z3 and the best front camera is the HTCOne (M8).
The biggest battery capacity is the Sony Xperia Z3.
The most internal storage goes to Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but all the Android devices offer microSD card support.
The most affordable device is the LG G3 at £479.

US carriers are bringing their tap-to-pay wallet to the iPhone 6
Don’t worry that Apple Pay will be the only game in town for tap-to-pay shopping on your iPhone 6. The carriers behind Softcard (aka Isis) have revealed that they’re working with Apple to bring their NFC-based payment system to newer iPhones sometime in 2015. While you’ll need a Softcard-aware SIM card in your phone for this to work, you hopefully won’t have to slap a bulky case on your device this time around. It’s doubtful that this solution will work as elegantly as Apple Pay, which doesn’t even require that you launch an app, but it should let you purchase with your iPhone in considerably more places.

Apple Selling New Leather/Silicone Cases for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus [iOS Blog]
During today’s unveiling of the iPhone 6, the iPhone 6 Plus and the Apple Watch, Apple also announced plans to introduce new cases for both of the new iPhones. First of all, the company will be continuing the leather line of cases that it first introduced for the iPhone 5s, offering cases that will fit both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.
The cases are crafted from hand-selected leather that’s been treated with aniline dye, and they feature a microfiber interior to protect the phone and its new protruding lens. The leather cases are available in Black, Olive Brown, Midnight Blue, Soft Pink, and Product (RED).
Along with the leather cases, Apple is also offering custom-fit silicone cases for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, which offer protection while “maintaining their incredibly slim form.” The silicone cases come in Black, White, Pink, Blue, Green, and Product (RED).
