Android 5.0 Lollipop soon expected for multiple Sprint devices

This is some great news for Sprint customers out there. A few of HTC, LG, and Samsung’s most popular devices are receiving updates for Android 5.0 Lollipop on the network.

The update for the HTC One M7 was confirmed via Twitter by Mo, the Vice President of Product Management at HTC. Its OTA update started today. He notes that Lollipop is coming to other devices as well.

Android Central said that Lollipop is also coming to the HTC One M8 and One M8 Harmon Kardon edition on February 13th and to the LG G3 on February 16th. Although, this could be subject to change.

Sprint Lollipop update schedule

You can also see in the image that the Galaxy S5 should have also started receiving the update earlier today. That appears to be true based on confirmation directly from Samsung.

Congrats to all the Sprint owners out there. Hopefully, the other characters will quickly follow with updates for these and other devices.

More purported One (M9) leaks: gold version and accessories

alleged one m9 gold

We’re positive that the One (M9) is coming on March 1 to Barcelona, and we already have a good idea of what to expect from HTC’s next masterpiece. But – thankfully – there are still details trickling in, like this image showing the back of the M9’s alleged gold version, that surfaced on China’s Weibo.

There isn’t much new to say about the shot – we see the same square camera module with rounded corners, the well-known One series style, and no trace of depth sensor in sight. There’s a chance we’re looking at a prototype component or something else, but judging from the many leaks showing the same general appearance, our money is on this design being real.

The same source also shared what appears to be a version of the Dot View smart case adapted for the One (M9), though, save for the different camera cutout, it looks very similar to last year’s model.

The prolific conveyor of HTC inside info @upleaks recently published some tidbits about the upcoming flagship’s accessories, which will reportedly include:

  • HTC DotView 2 (more abundant than M8’s) – HC M231/232
  • Clear Case – HC C1153
  • Stand Case – HC K1150
  • Waterproof Case(has IP68 rating) – HC C1152
  • Waterproof Headset – RC E250
  • HTC BoomBass with WiFi support
  • Screen Protector – SP R230A

@upleaks also “confirmed” that the device will be marketed as the One (M9), though for what it’s worth, it was @upleaks who first stated that HTC would drop the M9 name in the first place. Alas, things change.

Do you look forward to the new M9? Or are you hoping for more radical changes?

New leak reveals HTC One M9 in the latest Dot View case

onem9dotview-1

A report from last week suggested that HTC would introduce new color variants with the Dot View case for the One M9 smartphone. Today, we’re getting our very first look of the cover (in black) thanks to a new leak. This comes after we stumbled across the back panel of the One M9 yesterday, revealing the camera and LED flash placement on the handset.

At first glance, there’s nothing new with this case compared to the Dot View case from last year. But we’re certain that HTC has some new tricks up its sleeve to show us with the newest iteration of the Dot View case. Nothing more can be ascertained from these leaked images, although we hope to learn more over the coming days.

HTC holds the crown with something completely different

htc_hold_the_crown_rap_video

HTC decided to do something a little different when it came to marketing their HTC One M8 and apparently not content to just test the waters, they decided to go all in with their latest effort. If you enjoy the surreal then you may like this as HTC has produced a rap video titled “Hold the Crown” featuring rapper Doc G. In the video Doc G is accompanied by a frenetically dancing HTC employee David Bruce and some dancing Samsung Galaxy S 5 and Apple iPhone 6  mascots. The dancing phone mascots are included as HTC takes some shots at Samsung and Apple in the video. HTC chairman Peter Chou even manages to make an appearance in the video.

Hit the break if you want to check out the video or if you just need a break from the normal world.

Android Lollipop rolling out to the HTC One M8 in Canada today

htc one m8 outdoors aa (2 of 14)

HTC may be a little behind with its 90 day Android Lollipop roll-out goal, but the company is still pushing out updates for its flagship smartphone. Android Lollipop will be heading out to Canadian HTC One M8 owners within the next 24 hours.

Answering questions via Twitter yesterday, HTC’s own Mo Versi confirmed that the company has received technical approval from Rogers and TELUS regarding updates for the M8 and that an over-the-air rollout would begin the following day (which is today).

Furthermore, HTC Canada’s Twitter account also confirmed that a similar update would be making its way to the HTC One M7 “soon”, although a more specific time frame wasn’t given. Hopefully, we should see news about the update appear in the near future.

Keep your eyes peeled for that OTA update notification later today.

Canadian HTC One (M8) owners will see Lollipop update tomorrow

HTC-One-M8_Gunmetal_Silver_Gold1HTC has been hard at work preparing their Lollipop update for the M8, and it’s finally going to roll out to Canadian users on Rogers and Telus starting tomorrow. HTC’s product manager confirmed that the update has passed its testing and certification, so we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to see it start hitting devices.

Unfortunately, still no word on when it’ll be available in the US after missing its 90 day deadline, but hopefully HTC keeps everyone updated about the progress of the upgrade.
