HTC’s vice president of product management hints at new Android update in March
We’ve seen some rumors on Android 5.1 already, and now we’re getting hints from Mo Versi, HTC’s vice president of product management, that the update is on its way.
After being prodded by a Twitter follower on when a bug in the Google Play Edition of the One M7 would be fixed, Versi responded by tweeting, “It’ll be tied to Google’s next MR, which is in March. Thanks.”
This could be hinting at the forthcoming Android 5.1, and it’s nice to have a bit more information from a more reliable source. Of course, the tweet’s content is open for debate and leaves room for interpretation, but this tidbit is what we’ve got to work with for now.

HTC One (M8) for Verizon expected to receive Lollipop approval in two weeks
A few weeks ago, Verizon shocked everyone when it became the first carrier in the United States to push Android 5.0 to the Galaxy S 5. Look back at Verizon’s history in updating its devices and you will find that the updates are either extremely slow or nonexistent. So it is great to see some changes at Big Red. Now, many people with the HTC One (M8) on Verizon are waiting to receive Lollipop. HTC Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi, essentially the company’s spokesperson for software updates, took to Twitter to provide some information.
Hit the break for more.
On Twitter, one owner of the 2014 HTC flagship expressed hope that his device would receive the update this week. Versi responded with good news and bad news. The bad news is that the update will not arrive this week. The good news, though, is that approval for the update is expected to be received in the first week of March.
@RyGi2001 it’s in the lab, we’re expecting approval first week of March.

HTC says “let them stare” in new MWC 2015 teaser
We all know that HTC will introduce its next flagship device on March 1. Today, the company reminded us of that. The United Kingdom branch’s Twitter account posted a closeup image of a flower with the tagline “let them stare.” Is this in reference to the improved camera lens or the overall design? No one knows for sure at this time, but HTC likely means both.
The company included the “new HTC one” name below the tagline. Like last year, there is some debate over what the name of this year’s handset will be called. Some believe it will be the HTC One (M9) and others are going with the condensed HTC One.
We will learn more about HTC’s 2014 plans next month at MWC 2015.

Mid-range version of the HTC One (M8) on the way
HTC might be just about to unveil the HTC One (M9) and possibly the One (M9) Plus in a couple of weeks, but they are also readying a variant of last year’s flagship. The HTC One M8i appears to be just like the One (M8) in terms of appearance and weight, but there will be some differences under the hood.
It sports the same 5-inch 1080p display, but the processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615, which includes 2 sets of Cortex-A53 quad cores (1.7 GHz and 1.0 GHz). It will also come with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, microSD slot for expanded storage, Duo Camera at the back (13 MP and 2 MP), 5 MP front-facing camera, less than 3,000 mAh battery, BoomSound, and Android 5.0 with Sense 7.0.
The M8i will be available in Asia (including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia at least), China (OpenChannel, China Mobile, China Unicom), and Europe.
You will have your choice of either gray, gold, or silver for colors. No word on exactly when it will be available or the price, but it’s likely to be shown at Mobile World Congress next month.

HTML code reveals One M9 name on HTC’s official website

HTC is only two weeks away from launching their next big flagship on March 1st, and thanks to a plethora of leaks and rumors, we seem to have a pretty good idea as to what we can expect out of the flagship. But with all of the leaks we’ve seen so far, we’ve just been assuming that the device will be called the M9. Now, following the company’s previous two handsets, the name of the device could very well be the HTC One M9 since the past two flagships went by the names M7 and M8. Up until now, we haven’t seen anything from HTC regarding the true name of the flagship, though we have seen some leaks revealing that the company may be internally referring to the handset as “Hima.” But in a new discovery on HTC’s official website, the company outs the name “HTC One M9″ in the HTML code. Take a look at the image below for reference:

A few lines away from the One M9 name is the reference to the “One Life” tagline, which will likely be the phrase used to promote the new One handset.
It’s also worth noting that the company’s most recent flagship’s official name is the HTC One (M8), with parentheses. So, according to this HTML code, it could suggest that HTC plans to drop the parentheses from the official name of the device. While the “HTC One M9″ might not be the most appealing name out there, I think we can all agree that dropping the parentheses is a good branding decision.

HTC One M9 vs Samsung Galaxy S6 – concepts compared
With the next two flagship devices just around the corner from HTC and Samsung, inevitably the renders of what fans believe the next devices will look like start to surface; so let’s compare them.
The concepts represent what the HTC One M9 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 could look like, as suggested by the various leaks we’ve heard, together with some imaginative creativity.
HTC One M9
The new device from HTC retains a similar back to what the current One M8 has, but brings a more curved smoother look to the front, together with slimmer bezels. The concept oozes premium look and feel, opting for a curved back and two-toned chassis coloring.
Samsung Galaxy S6
Picture the HTC One M9 against the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the premium design of the HTC definitely shines trough, as well as those thin bezels. However, the Samsung Galaxy S6 seems to have borrowed the chassis from the iPhone 6 with the design looking very similar to the Apple competitor.
The Galaxy S6, One M9, and iPhone 6, look more similar than ever in these concepts, with design influences easily seen shared across devices.
With that said, there is very little to complain about if this really is what the One M9 and Galaxy S6 end up looking like, because I really like them; however, let us know what you think of the renders in the comments below.

This weekend, various products designed and sold by HTC will be available at discounted prices. The company will reduce the cost for buyers of the One (M8), RE Camera, Dot View case, Double Dip case, and Flip case. The reason for discounting these items can probably be explained by the March 1 event hosted by HTC. The company is expected to introduce a new range of prodcuts, namely the HTC One (M9). A successor to the RE Camera will likely debut as well.
Here are the terms of the sale:
- $150 off when buying the HTC One (M8) for $499
- 50% off when buying the Dot View ($25), Double Dip ($12.50), and Flip cases ($15)
- 25% off when buying the RE Camera for $149
The discounts will be applied when items are added to the cart prior to checkout.
