Verizon announces HTC Desire 612 with XLTE and BoomSound, out Oct 9th
Tomorrow HTC has an event scheduled in New York. We have suspected a few phone offerings to spring up, but many of us are more interested in their new stand alone camera, the re-camera. None of that means much in regards to this information though as Verizon has announced the availability of a new entry-level HTC device that will be available for customers to pick starting October 9th. Meet the HTC Desire 612.
The HTC Desire 612 packs a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, likely the Qualcomm 400. The device will carry 8GB internal storage with micro SD support with confirmation of 128GB compatibility. You will find an 8 MP rear camera and your selfie taking 1.3MP front facing camera. It will push Android 4.4 KitKat to a 4.7-inch HD display. Like its big brothers, the Desire 612 will have dual front-facing BoomSound speakers, is Verizon XLTE-ready and carries a 2,040 mAh battery.
Verizon leaves the RAM out of the press release that hit their site, but I imagine it will be the same as the Desire 610 that was put out on AT&T a few months back, which is 1GB. However, previous leaks about the device claimed 1.5GBs.
Pricing details are left blank beyond a 2-year contract offering for free. AT&T offers the Desire 610 for $199.99. Verizon Edge will also be available for qualified buyers.

HTC tweets teaser for October 8 event

We might not have to wait to see HTC’s GoPro competitor as the company have just tweeted a teaser for an event on October 8th.
Quite possibly focused on the Desire Eye, HTC tweeted out the following:
Don’t adjust your screen. Just focus on the date. #HTCLive http://t.co/vQJrWCrjKG
— HTC (@htc) October 6, 2014
Of course, it could also be the Nexus 9, but I wouldn’t want to speculate…

Leaked image purportedly shows HTC’s Nexus 9 tablet
A new image from @upleaks, along with an apparent trip through the FCC has provided solid evidence that Google is set to release the Nexus 9 tablet built by HTC. The pic clearly shows Nexus and HTC branding on the back, which appears to be made of some kind of grippy, Nexus 5-like plastic material. In addition, an HTC tablet matching recent Nexus 9 rumors just passed through the FCC in a WiFi-only variant, though a 4G model is also a given. To top it off, an NVIDIA lawsuit last month revealed that HTC would build a Nexus tablet that will have a Tegra chip, likely a 64-bit K1. Google may be prepping the Nexus 9 (and possibly a rumored Nexus 6 handset) to be the first devices to get Android L, which supports 64-bit CPUs via the ART runtime. It should be unveiled soon, and given Google’s Nexus history, expect nothing less than a cutting edge tablet on the cheap.

Nexus 9 shows up in the flesh bearing HTC logo and matte finish
October is going to be an exciting month, if the rumours turn out to be true. Those rumours allege that two Nexus devices will be announced sometime this month, one a smartphone and the other a tablet device. That tablet is rumoured to be called the Nexus 9, named predictably thanks to its 8.9-inch display, and today it appears we have our first glimpse of the device in the flesh. Obviously we won’t know if this is the real deal until Google officially announces the device, but we do see the tiny HTC logo at the base of the device with a Nexus logo adorning the middle of it. A matte black finish rounds out basically the only other thing we can determine from this picture of the device.
If anything, the device doesn’t appear like a HTC device at all, taking more cues, perhaps, from the Nexus 5’s matte finish. On the inside, the Nexus 9 is expected to house a NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor powering a Quad HD display with 2560×1600 resolution. Wi-Fi and LTE models are rumoured in 16GB and 32GB variants, but hopefully we’ll be hearing more about this from Google officially in the not too distant future.

Nexus 9 gets more real as device gets FCC approval

Everything is falling into place for the Nexus 9 ahead of it’s October 16th release, as the Nexus 9 has received the FCC approval.
Whilst the documentation doesn’t reveal too much about the device, it does confirm that the device doesn’t support the usual 16:9 aspect ratio as seen on most Android devices.
HTC, who are expected to be manufacturing the Nexus 9, is expected to be make a press announcement next week regarding the device.

HTC’s next Desire phone reportedly captures 13-megapixel selfies
If you’ve wanted to shoot 13-megapixel selfies with your phone, you’ve usually had to get either a knock-off or a one-of-a-kind device like Oppo’s N1. You might not have to look very hard if a handful of leaks are correct, however. Both HTCFamily.ru and @upleaks have posted pictures of what’s reportedly the HTC Desire Eye, a relatively conventional upper mid-range Android phone that would pack 13-megapixel cameras on both the front and back. They’d even have flashes to help with those dimly-lit dance club snapshots.
The Desire Eye could be quite the powerhouse beyond its photographic abilities, too. Another rumor from @upleaks has it carrying a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a speedy quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. There’s no direct clues as to when this new Desire would show up, although HTC already has a “double exposure” event lined up for October 8th. It won’t be shocking if the company has more up its sleeve that day than an action camera.

HTC Desire Eye will tout a 13-megapixel front-facing camera, report says

An upcoming HTC Desire Eye smartphone will soon be introduced with a pair of 13-megapixel cameras, says Twitter source @uplinks. Reportedly, the phone will boast a wide angle f2.0 13-megapixel camera for the selfie-minded user. Additional specs figure to include a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and a removable 2400mAh battery.

Powered by Android KitKat (we hope), the phone is also touted with Sense 6 for EYE. Sounds like a special version of software designed to take better pictures or create cooler Zoes.
It’s not clear how soon we’ll see the Desire Eye but we wouldn’t be surprised if it were part of the October 8 presser. Remember that invitation that said “seeing double”? Hmm…maybe.
Yes, you’re really an “ultimate selfie phone”… #HTCDesireEye pic.twitter.com/waOPgmQGoO

The HTC One M8 Max may be less massive than its predecessor
In case you hadn’t hear enough about giant, oversized phones today, here’s some more news about another giant, except this time the news might be a little more welcome. The 2013 HTC One Max was a monster of a phone – with a display measuring 5.9-inches, it positively dwarfed its little brother off of which it was based, the HTC One M7. HTC appears to have decided this isn’t the direction it is going to continue taking its largest smartphone and is allegedly going to go with a much more friendly 5.5-inch display with its next phablet, what’s being called the HTC One M8 Max. The display will also apparently be of the Quad HD variety, which would make the M8 Max a very attractive option alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and presumably the soon-to-be-announced Nexus 6.
Other rumoured specs of the M8 Max include a Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAM, and perhaps most surprisingly, HTC will be keeping the fingerprint scanner that adorned the back of the original device. And when can we expect to see such a device to release? Q4 2014 is the quoted date, but we’re wondering if the M8 Max can rekindle the goodwill of the One M8 which has somewhat died off at this point in the year.
What are you thoughts about a smaller HTC One M8 Max? Would you prefer this over the larger Note 4 or Nexus 6? Let us know your opinion.

The extended Nexus family: Google’s golden Android standard
Google’s Nexus line has long stood as the company’s ideal vision of its widely adopted, open-source Android operating system. The devices, be they smartphones, tablets or even one-off media streamers, are built in conjunction with select hardware partners and represent an ideal marriage of tech specs with an unadulterated version of Android. It’s Google’s way of dealing with fragmentation (read: skinned versions) in the mobile OS market it created; a reference mark for manufacturers to aspire to, so to speak.
On the tail of the original Android handset’s sixth anniversary and in the run-up to whatever new Nexuses come next, we take a look back at the hardware path that’s been Google’s gold standard for Android.
