HTC One M8 ‘Eye’ appears in China with 13-megapixel camera
Love the HTC One M8, but aren’t quite sold on the company’s dedication to UltraPixel technology? Good news — HTC redesigned the M8 just for you! Bad news? It’s only available in asian markets. If you’re looking for differences, there aren’t many: the M8 Eye appears to be the standard model in every respect save for the fact that the 4MP UltraPixel shooter has been replaced by a plain-jane 13 megapixel camera. Think of it as a metallic, not-so-waterproof Butterfly 2. The new M8 will ship with the same “Eye Experience” software as the HTC Desire Eye the company announced earlier this week, which also sports a 13MP camera in lieu of Ultrapixels. Don’t worry though, HTC assured us it isn’t abandoning UltraPixel technology — it just wants to offer customers multiple options.

HTC announces high-end, waterproof selfie-centered Desire EYE

HTC on Thursday announced its latest Android, the selfie-centric Desire EYE. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, the device features a 5.2-inch HD display, and a two-tone plastic unibody shell. The standout selling point, however, is the pair of 13-megapixel cameras and its suite of software. Yes, this is the phone that’s designed for today’s growing narcissistic culture.
Key details in the camera experience include a dedicated button, a pair of warm dual-LED flashes, smile capture, still capture, voice commands, and more. HTC wants to make it easier than ever to capture fun and momentous occasions.
Another tidbit of note include waterproof capability; it’s safe to submerge up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
The Desire EYE will be offered in the United States as an exclusive device for AT&T. Pricing and exact availability is not yet known.

HTC streches beyond smartphones with $200 RE Camera

New camera signals a wider move to embrace the Android and iOS platforms
As part of yesterday’s announcement of the Desire EYE, HTC also introduced its portable camera, the RE Camera. Sporting a form factor that closely resembles an asthma inhaler and periscope hybrid, the device features a 16-megapixel SONY sensor with a 146-degree wide angle lens. Designed to capture both video and still images, it can go it alone or pair with Android and iOS smartphones.
Control your RE camera remotely with your iPhone or Android phone. The RE App is both a content browser and live viewfinder which mirrors what RE is seeing. After initial device pairing, all you do is launch the app, and all of your photos and videos are instantly available on your phone.
Features include slow motion, time-lapse, cinematic effects, and live streaming to your mobile phone. At $199 the HTC RE Camera doesn’t come cheap; it enters a space largely occupied by GoPro. But, with accessories (bike mounts, backpack clips, etc), it’s rather versatile. Toss in waterproof capability and we like the direction HTC is headed.

Other hardware details include 32MB ROM, 256MB RAM with microSD expansion, Bluetooth connectivity, microUSB, and Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n). The 820mAh battery is rated to handle 100 minutes of continuous HD video recording or 1,200 photos.
The RE Camera is expected to launch in a variety of colors later this month and will be offered in Best Buy, Amazon, and other retailers. AT&T is among the first carriers to offer support as well.

HTC makes the Desire EYE official with 13MP front camera with flash and waterproof
Prior to the announcement of the HTC RE camera, the company announced the new Desire EYE. Which was a follow-up announcement to the EYE software that we will get into a bit later. The Desire EYE though is a new phone that has a lot going for itself. It is plastic, but it is a unibody dual color molded plastic. No back covers here. The real kicker to the device aren’t the internal specs, while they are still very nice, or some 4k screen. Nope, the Desire EYE’s main attraction is the 13MP wide-angle front facing camera with color LED flashes. Yes, a front facing camera with some oomph and a set of LED flashes. I might not be a selfie taker, but I certainly do get tired of seeing super dark selies from the bar show up on social feeds.
Beyond the front camera and flash, the Desire EYE brings you a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 display, quad-core Qualcomm 801 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage with SD card slot, BoomSound, and an embedded 2400 mAh battery. The device is also IPX7 waterproof rated as well.
Beyond the hardware you have a feature set of software that takes full advantage of the dual cameras. It is called the Eye Experience. The same software will be finding its way to the HTC One M8, possibly the M7, with an update over the next month or so. The Eye Experience lets you take front and rear photos/videos at the same time. You can also do some double exposure work and take your image and place it on the scene, or in someones pocket, whatever. You will be able to crop and scale to your heart’s content. There is also, what they call, the Auto Selfie. Near as I could tell, a timer for selfies that is set for 2 seconds. It does over voice commands like “Say Cheese.” for photos and “Action” to start a video. There is a bit more in the Eye Experience that we will cover in a separate post since it will be making its way to other HTC devices soon.
The HTC Desire Eye is set for launch exclusively with AT&T. Colors, dates and pricing aren’t available yet. At least none that I found or heard. We will keep you posted on those. You can signup for more information about the Desire Eye through HTC’s website at your leisure.
