Office Mobile is now completely free to use on Android and iPhone
Today’s Office news isn’t all about the iPad. Microsoft now lets you use Office Mobile completely for free on both Android and the iPhone; if you’re a home customer, you can both edit and read documents without paying for an Office 365 subscription. The gratis apps are ultimately meant to encourage use of the desktop and iPad clients, where you do need to pay for full access. Even so, it’s hard to object to having another free tool for tweaking company reports while on the move.

HTC reveals octa-core Desire 616 in China
HTC just released the all new HTC One, a device that created an excitement in the world of Android. But they are not stopping there; as the company just revealed yet another Android powered phone in China; which is known as the Desire 616. It is HTC’s first ever phone with octa-core processor, but it will be limited to Asia.
Desire 616 comes with a 5-inch 720p display, MediaTek’s 1.7GHz octa-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8 megapixel camera and Android 4.4.2, topped with HTC Sense 5. The design of the device is not that outstanding, but I guess HTC is just planning to target small markets with this phone, and also it might come with an affordable price tag. More details will be revealed when HTC will officially launch it.

Timehop comes to Android – “Did I really say that?” [App of the Day]
The popular iOS app, Timehop, is finally on Android, and it’s here to make you feel infinitely nostalgic.
Timehop gives it’s users an easy way to look back in time. It’s basically a feed of your favorite social networking sites, but only shows posts from a couple of years ago. If you’re unfamiliar with it, we’ll walk you through it.
The app is overall really easy to use. Login to your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Foursquare accounts, and your feed populates with posts that happened around this time a few years back. It gives you posts that happened 1-4 years in the past, reminding you of your sleepless nights in college, or how excited you were when Ace Ventura came on television. Also, if you’d like to share any of these posts to Facebook or Twitter, you can do so with a few easy clicks.
Timehop is a simple application that doesn’t try to do too much for it’s own good, and that’s why we enjoy using it. Download it for free from Google Play!

Philips’ 2014 4K TVs include an Android-powered model and smaller sets
Philips’ 4K TVs last year were on the large side, but it’s following up in 2014 with smaller models — including one with a few tricks up its sleeve. The company’s new 55-inch 8809 series set mates the extra-high resolution with Android, giving you both Google Play apps as well as access to your Dropbox content. It’s also a capable set whether or not you like the mobile OS, with a 1GHz refresh rate and Ambilight illumination that plays nicely with both games and Hue lights. There are also 48- and 55-inch 1080p sets running Android (the 8109 and 8209 series), and you can pick up the 7809 series (pictured here) in 42-, 49- and 55-inch flavors if you’re comfortable using a 4K set without Google underpinnings. All of the new 7000 and 8000 series TVs should be available in Europe and Russia in the second quarter of the year, although the Android variants aren’t expected to reach the UK. Pricing isn’t available at this stage, but we’d expect these screens to be more affordable than Philips’ 65- and 84-inch behemoths.

Amazon gives Cloud Drive Photos for Android a new interface and simpler navigation
Amazon’s been busy tweaking Prime and planning delivery drones these past months, but by the looks of it, it hasn’t entirely forgotten its lesser-known services. Today, the company has updated the Cloud Drive Photos app for Android with a brand new interface and a navigation bar to make it easier to access your oft-used features. While the refreshed UI retains the older version’s dark color scheme, it comes with new buttons and a new layout. The app now also automatically sorts all videos into one album and arranges photos and albums by date and name. Finally, other than the usual bucket of bug fixes, the new version adds an upload status indicator that shows how long you have to wait until you’re done backing up your files. If these new features make you want to give the app a second chance despite being married to Google Drive or Dropbox, hit the Play link below.

Dell and Microsoft sign mutually helpful Android licensing deal
Microsoft’s patent agreements with Android and Chrome OS device builders are usually one-sided: the manufacturers sign licensing deals, and Microsoft agrees not to sue them into oblivion. However, the crew in Redmond has just broken with that tradition by forging a cross-licensing pact with Dell. While Dell will still have to pay royalties whenever it sells Google-powered hardware, it’s also licensing patents to Microsoft for use in Xbox consoles. Just what the deal means for gamers (if anything) isn’t clear. It’s safe to presume, though, that Dell can continue to sell Android tablets and Chromebooks without fear of a legal firestorm.

Can Oculus survive the Facebook effect?

The next version of Android could be truly business-friendly
According to The Information‘s sources, the next version of Android will put much more focus on office-grade security. If the rumor is true, the new OS will allow for apps that require their own authentication and storage on secure chips.
Turkey’s Twitter ban has been overturned
Well, that didn’t last long. The Turkish government’s ban on Twitter was given a “stay of execution” earlier today, meaning the injunction will be lifted until judges have the chance to weigh complaints against the social giant. Twitter also announced it was one of the parties who originally filed a complaint against the decision.

Google’s two-day I/O ticket lottery starts on April 8th

In 2012, all of the tickets for Google’s I/O developer conference sold out in under 30 minutes. Last year? It took about 49 minutes. Don’t worry about waking up early to register this year, though: the folks in Mountain View are running a lottery instead. Google will take applications for I/O tickets from April 8 to 10, and will randomly reach out to lucky applicants not long after that. Honestly though, your odds of nabbing a ticket are still dicey – the event usually plays host to about 5,500 developers, and demand for admission is through the roof… thanks in part to all the hardware swag Google gives out. If you have neither the time nor the spare dough to schlep out to San Francisco this summer, expect Google to stream its announcements and developer sessions on YouTube too.

Twitter update lets you tag people in pictures, attach multiple photos
If there’s a social network out there that epitomizes the mentality of “slow and steady wins the race,” it’s Twitter. With the addition of photo tagging and multiple picture uploads, the company is continuing to chip away at the advantages its competitors (both real and perceived) enjoy. In 2014 alone, the mobile and desktop sites have received face lifts, it introduced video previews on mobile apps, added ads in the form of promoted users, introduced photo editing tools and experimented with everything from view counts to hiding @ replies and hashtags.
The two latest features focus squarely on pictures. For one, you’ll now people able to tag people in the photos you upload. Sure you could always add their names to whatever text you appended before, but now you can tag up to 10 people without it counting against your 140 character count. Secondly, and this one will be rolling out more slowly, you’ll soon be able to attach up to four photos to each tweet. When you upload multiple pictures a thumbnail collage will automatically be created and you can tap on it to swipe through the images in full size. That is hitting iOS devices first and coming soon to both Android and the website. Hit your respective app store now to get the appropriate update.
