Sony Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z getting Android 4.3 Updates
Sony recently released the Android 4.3 update to the Xperia Z1 and Ultra and it was only going to be a matter of time before the other Z line started to see theirs. We are happy to pass along that Sony is currently pushing out that Android 4.3 update to the Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZR, Xperia ZL and the Xperia Tablet Z.
The update brings quite a lot to the table.
-
Launched with Xperia Z1, we’re now bringing Sony’s Smart Social Camera to these devices – our signature camera experience, that lets you download, access and enjoy “Xperia camera apps” directly from within the viewfinder
- We’re also uplifting Sony’s entire native app portfolio to the latest versions – bringing tweaked / improved / current experiences for (to name but a few): Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, Sony Select and…
- Sony’s Media apps: WALKMAN, Album and Movies, with Sony Entertainment Network cloud service integration* – a more converged and full Sony entertainment experience – Sony Entertainment Network & PlayMemories integration with a more intuitive UI, offering seamless access to both local and cloud content
- The launch of our unique custom interface experience: “Xperia Themes”, with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select – more on this soon…
- The latest Android security enhancements, matched with Sony’s mobile enterprise solution: Xperia in Business
- Battery STAMINA Mode – updated version of Sony’s power management app, now with refreshed interface and more smart options for prolonging battery life
-
Increased user control for Xperia Tablet Z, with “Restricted Profiles”; option to create isolated, secure spaces with individual local storage, home screens, widgets and settings
While I am a happy Xperia Z owner, those of us here in the states know that it is going to be a while before T-Mobile probably rolls out the update. I can tell you though from personal experience with this update for the last week or so, that all the little features and tweaks certainly do make a HUGE difference to the device. I am particularly happy to report that it is noticeably smoother, the camera offers much more and the battery life has dramatically improved. T-Mobile will probably kill that off with bloatware though.
For those that went ahead and flashed the commercial/journalist build that made its way to XDA, this update is carrying the same firmware version of 10.4.B.0.569.
Be on the lookout for the update overseas to your various Xperia Z devices.

Android 4.3 Update For Toshiba Excite Pro and Excite Write Tablets On The Way
Well it isn’t Android 4.4 Kit-Kat but hey, it is an upgrade from another OEM. Toshiba should be rolling out Android 4.3 to their Excite Pro and Excite Write very soon. Of course we already know the stuff Android 4.3 brings along, most notable is the multi accounts which is a nice feature to have especially on a tablet. Toshiba is updating a couple of their own apps as well, TruNote and TruCapture. The TruNote update brings the ability to convert notes to Office formats. And the TruCapture update allows signature and sketches to be digitized. So if you own one of these guys keep your eyes peeled for your software update. Perhaps we are finally seeing OEM’s take updates a little more seriously (maybe just maybe 4.4 won’t be far off from your Toshiba tablets).

Android 4.3 For Sony Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z Gets Certified, Update Should Be Imminent
With the update of the Sony Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra rolling out as of yesterday, we knew it wouldn’t be long before Sony updated the rest of its top line of Xperia Z products to Android 4.3. Sure enough, Android 4.3 for Sony Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and the Tablet Z was seen to be getting certified at PTCRB today, approving firmware build 10.4.B.0.569 for release. This will surely mean that the update will be incoming very shortly to those of you who have these devices, though we’ll let you know as soon as we know anything more.
While Sony might be a little bit late to the update game relative to Samsung and HTC’s flagships, I would say they look like they’re doing a better job at updating more of their devices. Who else is impressed by Sony? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Verizon HTC One Receiving Android 4.3 this Week
Verizon HTC One users should have a happy week this week, as they will be getting their Android 4.3 update, or at least we hope they are getting it. The rollout for the update was delayed by a month by Verizon and HTC, leaving users wondering when they are going to get their enhanced Jelly Bean. Then we finally got info from the Executive Director of Product Management at HTC, who posted on Twitter handle @moversi these uplifting words:
VzW HTC One Owners: We have received Technical Approval from Verizon on the 4.3 MR! We expect the OTA to start early next week! Thank You!
Sadly no Sense 5.5 coming with this update. That will be updated with the Android 4.4 update, that will most likely start rolling out at the end of January.
So keep a lookout for the update this week. Hopefully this info is correct, and you can taste that enhanced Jelly Bean by the end of the week. Let us know when you receive it.

Sony begins Android 4.3 rollout for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra
Sony’s just announced an upgrade to Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) for the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra, and it’s tacking on some of its own enhancements along with the standard performance tweaks. The super-sized Xperia Z Ultra, for one, will now include the Smart Social Camera suite for sharing media across social networks, utilizing image-recognition technology and adding AR effects, among other things. For Z Ultra users who’ve been envying the Z1′s photo-focused feature set, this should be a welcome addition — though, of course, a software update can’t magically upgrade that 8-megapixel shooter to a 20.7MP cam.
The update also adds improved versions of Sony’s native apps, including Messaging, MyXperia and Smart Connect, along with the company’s media apps such as Walkman. The rollout has just begun, so keep an eye out; according to Sony, other Xperia devices should be getting the bump to 4.3 soon.

Sony today made a post on its Sony Mobile blog saying that Android 4.3 is rolling out now to their flagship Z1 and its gargantuan phablet brother, though when you actually receive the update will depend on your region.

It’s a pretty substantive update so we can’t wait to see what Sony has in store for the Android 4.4 update, whenever that drops. If you have either of these devices and you get the update, feel free to let us know and tell us how you’re finding the update.

The UK-based electronics company, which was founded 55 years ago, just announced a new accessory called “The Brick” that connects to your smartphone through Bluetooth and lets you use it like one from the 1980s.
As for the design of this accessory, think Motorola DnyaTAC except with large speakers, a micro SD slot, FM radio and LED flashlight. Probably one of its most 80s worthy features of all, is that it also comes with the classic mobile phone game Snake. Need we say more?
The Brick offers up to one month of standby battery life and 14 hours talk time. That is, if your phone doesn’t die before that.
if you’re ready to look like an 80′s dork once again or you think it would be the perfect holiday gift for a friend or family member, it’s available now for $69.99.
