Snapchat users in 10 cities can add special ‘Geostickers” to their photos or chats
Snapchat has added a new feature called “Geostickers”, allowing users who are located in 10 specific cities to add location-based stickers to their photos or in chats.
Snapchat explained how these new stickers work in a blog post:
Today we’re excited to introduce Geostickers! Geostickers are special stickers available in some of the biggest cities around the world — send them in Chat or stick them on Snaps! Geostickers are available now in Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington DC, Honolulu, London, Sydney, São Paulo, Paris, and Riyadh. You’ll need to have your location services enabled to see them!
Snapchat has not indicated when or where its new Geostickers will be added next.
Where to buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in the UK
As expected, every major UK network will carry the Galaxy Note 7 — and it’ll cost a pretty penny if you buy unlocked.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is official, and as expected all the major UK networks have announced that they’ll be carrying the phone when it launches in early September. The official Samsung pre-order date is Aug 16, so that’s when we can expect to see more details on pricing and colors form the UK carriers.
Vodafone
Vodafone has confirmed that it’ll will carry the Galaxy Note 7, with pre-orders going live from Aug. 16. The carrier hasn’t confirmed price plans, colors or any other details as yet.

Twitter’s Olympics coverage includes live Moments and Periscope
Much like Google, Twitter is going all-out to make itself a one-stop shop for summer Olympics coverage… and this year, there’s a distinct focus on live action. The social network has revealed that there will be an Olympics-specific Moments section (shown below) that will help you keep track of your home country or individual sports as they happen, one tweet at a time. There will also be an Olympics-oriented Periscope channel — no, you probably won’t see someone broadcasting an event from their phone, but you may just get a feel for Rio de Janeiro from someone who’s there.
Twitter isn’t stopping there, as you might guess. You can use hashtags to trigger Olympics-related emoji (such as national flags and medals), while Vine’s Explore section will have related videos. And if you happen to be visiting Rio yourself, you’ll see live tweets on the city’s Arcos de Lapa aqueduct. Overkill? Maybe, but there’s no question that you’ll know when a favorite athlete gets a podium finish.

Samsung Debuts Galaxy Note7 With New S Pen, Gear VR Headset, and Gear 360 Camera
Samsung today hosted a media event in New York City, where it introduced the all-new Galaxy Note7 with an updated S Pen, a new Gear VR headset powered by Oculus, and the Gear 360 camera. All three products will be available in the United States on August 19, with pre-orders starting tomorrow.
The 5.7-inch Galaxy Note7 adopts several design and hardware features of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, including a 2,560×1,440 Super AMOLED dual curved display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core 64-bit 14nm processor, 4GB of RAM, 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear-facing camera, wireless charging, and IP68-rated waterproofing.
Additionally, the Galaxy Note7 features a built-in iris scanner for unlocking the smartphone with your eyes, 64GB of internal storage expandable up to 256GB with a microSD card, a larger 3,500mAh battery, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, NFC for contactless payments, and a USB-C connector. The device will run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, eventually followed by Android 7.0 Nougat.
Samsung complemented the new smartphone with an updated version of its S Pen. The stylus features new Air Command functions, including Magnify and Translate, that enable users to zoom in on the screen or convert languages with a simple hover gesture, along with double the pressure sensitivity and a smaller 0.7mm tip geared towards providing a more ballpoint pen-like experience.
The Galaxy Note7 in Blue Coral, Silver Titanium, and Black Onyx launches at AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular on August 19. Pricing will be similar to previous Note devices, amounting to around $750 to $800. The smartphone will also be available at Amazon, Best Buy, Car Toys, Sam’s Club, Target, and select Walmart stores. An unlocked version will be released at a later date.
For a limited time, Samsung will gift customers who buy a Galaxy Note7 or Galaxy S7 edge with the choice of a free Gear Fit2 or 256GB memory card.
Outside of the United States, features may vary. The Galaxy Note7 will be powered by Samsung’s Exynos processor outside of the United States, for example, while a gold version will be available in international markets.
A new line of accessories will be available alongside the smartphone, including the new Gear 360 camera, available online on August 19 for $349, that can be paired to record immersive 360-degree videos. A new S-View Standing Cover will be able to prop the device at a 60-degree angle for easy viewing of content, and a IP68-rated water resistant battery backpack accessory will provide on-the-go charging.
The Galaxy Note7 can also be used with Samsung’s refreshed Gear VR headset, which now features a more comfortable design, larger and completely flat touchpad, dual USB-C and Micro USB compatibility, and a wider field of view. The headset will still cost $99, with pre-orders starting now ahead of an August 19 launch.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7: Best cases, accessories and chargers for the new phone
Samsung unveiled its new phone at simultaneous events in New York, London and Rio and afterwards we got a chance to check out all the official cases and accessories for the device.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be first in the family to come to the UK for a while, with Samsung Europe deciding to skip a generation last time around, so there’s a lot of anticipation.
It will be available for pre-order from 16 August and will ship from 2 September, but along with your shiny new phone you’ll probably want a natty case or two to keep it protected. And a charger to keep the power topped up.
In typical Samsung style, there are plenty of options, from the practical to the seemingly wacky. So to give you an idea of what to hunt down when you get a chance, we photographed all of them, which we present in our gallery above.

Sadly, prices aren’t forthcoming right now, but they should be available around the same time as the handset itself.
We particularly like the camera lens cases, that improve the photographic potential of the phone. You’re certainly spoiled for choice though.
You can now grab the third public beta for iOS 10 and MacOS Sierra
Two weeks after the second public beta of iOS 10, Apple has released a third.
The update should be identical to the fourth developer beta, which was seeded to developers on 1 August, serving up new features such as the new emoji (like that water gun replacement for the realistic pistol character), new keyboard sounds, and more. If you’re part of Apple’s beta-testing program, which is free to join, unlike the developer program, you will receive the public beta over-the-air.
In other words, you can easily install it by tapping Settings > General > Software Update. Keep in mind beta releases are not stable and may include bugs, so you should only try unfinished software like a beta on a secondary device that you don’t really need. But that’s not all: a third public beta of macOS Sierra has also arrived two weeks after the release of the second macOS Sierra public beta and one day after the release of the fourth developer beta. Again, the third public beta and the fourth developer beta should offer the same features, including the redesigned characters for several existing emoji. You can grab the MacOS Sierra beta if you’re in Apple’s beta testing program.
The new update should arrive via the Software Update tool in the Mac App Store, with the final consumer version landing later this year. The final, consumer versions of iOS 10 is also due this autumn, alongside the next iPhone models.

HTC’s 10 and Vive boost sales, but the future still looks grim
HTC’s Vive VR headset and HTC 10 smartphone sold briskly in Q2 2016, boosting revenue 27 percent over last quarter to 18.9 billion Taiwanese dollars ($598 million). The bad news is that compared to the same period last year, sales are down 42.7 percent — not quite as bad as the 64 percent tumble last quarter, but still a precipitous drop. The company had an operating loss of 4.2 billion Taiwanese dollars ($133 million), making five straight quarters of futility.
HTC realized it had a hit on its hands with the Vive, and created a wholly-owned subsidiary called the HTC Vive Tech Corporation to manage it. It also created a $100 million fund to expand the ecosystem. Sales from the division still count toward overall company earnings, but HTC hasn’t said how many of the $800 headsets it has moved so far. It did get a piece of good news when Oculus removed DRM constraints from games, meaning they’ll work with the Vive and not just the Rift headset.
The well-received HTC 10 apparently sold well and the company is counting on that to continue. CFO Chialin Chang unofficially predicted a return to profitability by next quarter, but the company will need a Hail Mary to meet that goal.

Samsung Cloud safeguards your phone’s data
The star of Samsung’s Unpacked show might be the Galaxy Note 7, but one of its biggest surprises is something you can’t really touch: its long, long rumored cloud storage service. The tech giant is launching Samsung Cloud, an online storage option that’s focused on safeguarding your phone’s data. Much like iCloud, you can use it for both backing up and restoring your phone’s data — helpful when you’re replacing a phone and don’t want to spend hours recreating your settings.
Unlike iCloud, though, Samsung is being fairly liberal with space: at least with a Galaxy Note 7, you’ll get 15GB of storage for free (par for the course among cloud rivals like Dropbox and Google Drive). We don’t have details of any paid options at this point, but it won’t be surprising if Samsung offers paid tiers that give you more breathing room.
