BT’s phone and broadband services go down across the UK

If you’re a BT customer and you’re experiencing issues with your home phone or broadband connection, you are not alone. The company has confirmed both services are suffering from network issues, which is affecting subscribers across the UK. BT’s websites also appear to be down, which is stopping some users from being able to check the status of their connection.
Website reporting service Down Detector has collated at least 18,000 complaints originating from London, Birmingham, Guildford, Coventry, Manchester, Ruislip, Sheffield, Leicester, Glasgow, and Bristol. At the time of writing, it appears that the outage has been caused by a DNS issue, which allows BT to route customers’ connections to websites and online services. Some users have reported that switching connections to Google’s DNS servers fixes the issue, although we haven’t been able to replicate.
We have contacted BT for clarificiation but haven’t yet received a response. We will update the article once we do.
Sorry if you’re experiencing network problems. Engineers are on site now. We will keep you updated
