GiGa.GG is giving away 500GB of cloud storage to the first 10,000 downloads
Over the years you have probably built up quite the collection of pictures, music, movies, and more. Your friends probably also have done the same. However, a problem that has always existed is how can you share all of that with each other?
GiGa.GG aims to solve that problem by giving all of its users 500GB of cloud storage and allowing them to upload their media to it. After users have uploaded whatever media they want, they can then share it with others. All movies will automatically re-encode for easy streaming right to your phone, or downloaded for offline use.
However, if you don’t have any friends who use GiGa.GG you can also search GiGa.GG’s users. People with similar interest can be connected to each other and share or download items from each others libraries.
As if 500GB wasn’t already a huge amount of free cloud storage, GiGa.GG will also upgrade users to an insane 10TB for only $6 a month. This seem like a super good deal for that much storage, especially since companies like Apple charge $12.99 a month for only 1TB of storage. The $6 fee also includes unlimited streaming, otherwise capped at 2GB a month.
Of course, privacy is surely a concern. GiGa.GG encrypts all logins and can not access them without user’s permission. Users can also choose to share their files with all, none, or some users network.
The only catch to all of this is the first 10,000 downloads on Android will get 500GB while anyone after that will get 100GB, and can earn up to 500GB by inviting their friends. There is also an iOS and computer version already available.

Samsung did alright in Q4, but is worried about 2016
Samsung has finally unveiled their final Q4 earnings. They earlier reported what they thought they earned, but now the results are final. Overall, they did pretty good, but 2016 is already looking to be a hard year.
Its operating profit was around $5 billion, which was a drop from it’s Q3 earnings of $6.1 billion. However, it is still 16.2% higher than last years Q4 earnings. Samsung is blaming “global economic headwinds”, slower high-end smartphone sales, and weakened prices on memory and LCD panels.
Although Samsung wishes they did better, they still did pretty good. They managed to increase tablet and television sales in Q4. Also, Galaxy Note 5 as well as mid to lower-end smartphone sales were up.
Additionally, they have hopes for more TV sales this year as the 2016 Olympics are coming soon. They also plan on increasing sales for IoT, smartwatches, and other wearables this year.

New CyanogenMod 12.1 snapshot finally released

It has been a while since CyanogenMod 12.1 has received a snapshot, right? Though these tend to be released about once a month, the CyanogenMod team took around 2 months to release the roll out the latest one, but it is finally out today.
First, let’s start by clearing out an important point. What is a snapshot? No, it is not a picture. CyanogenMod snapshots are pretty much a step between a stable version and a nightly. Its features have gone through some testing and should be mostly good to go, but there are still some chances of bugs showing up.

As it goes with these releases, the new CyanogenMod 12.1 snapshot is only available for a few devices right now. Motorola ones, to be more specific. These include the 2013 Moto X, the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Moto Maxx. More devices should be included soon enough, though.

Also, keep in mind that tinkering with your phone can be dangerous. If you don’t know what we are talking about in this post, do your research and be sure you want to flash CyanogenMod into your phone. You might otherwise end up with a bricked phone and/or a void warranty.
But if you are feeling more adventurous, it’s also possible to go for those CyanogenMod 13 nightlies, which are based on Marshmallow.
Online love with OKCupid and Tinder peaks at 9 PM

OKCupid might send out email blasts telling you to log in during a rainstorm because that’s when the site’s apparently busiest in any given location, but Nielsen wants you to know when the best time is to log in, period. For the dating website, the uptick starts at 6 PM, peaks at 9 PM and falls off sharply starting at 10 PM according to The Huffington Post. Those rainy-night emails? In my case, they arrive just after 7 PM. Surprisingly, the more fling-favorable Tinder is busiest at the same times as OKCupid in terms of unique audience, with over 50 percent of users beginning their swipe-fests during primetime.
If you’re looking for some late-night love though, you should probably have swapped digits with your potential mate prior — between 2 AM and 5 AM the user numbers are at their absolute lowest. There’s no word on when STD transmission peaks, however.

Google updates Docs, Sheets and Slides for easier teamwork
In a world of laptops, tablets, and smartphones there are more places than ever to get some work done. All these devices are great for their portability, but not the best for working with a team.
Google also agrees and decided to update Docs, Sheets, and Slides on Android and iOS to allow you to quickly add teammates to them. All you have to do is start to type their name in the comment bubble on the right for them to be added. This will make things much easier for teammates to work on the same documents simultaneously.
You can check the video below to see just how useful it can be. It’s not just for teammates either, you can also use this feature with your friends to make something like a zucchini chocolate cake.

Google Docs mobile suite now has full comment control
As someone who uses Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides on a daily basis, it’s sometimes a little frustrating that the mobile versions of these services lack some of the functionality of their in-browser, desktop counterparts. Although they aren’t quite there yet, Google is constantly working to close that gap in an effort to create a completely seamless work experience. Today they finally brought comments to the mobile apps, and the desktop version of Docs got a little perk as well.
To showcase how this increased interactivity works, Google has put together a small demonstration that follows the efforts of a group of workers attempting to create a recipe page. One person who isn’t involved in the discussion yet is brought into the conversation simply by mentioning their name – a new feature for both mobile and desktop versions of the suite. The workers build on the document simultaneously and are in constant communication. It doesn’t matter whether they’re on a tablet, phone, or computer.

As icing on the cake, as it were, Google Docs for the desktop also got a little bonus. It’s now much easier to add a comment. No more going all the way back up to the overhead toolbar to post your comment, you can simply hover over the right side of the document and click the “add comment” icon that will fluidly appear. Still not quite as quick as Ctrl+Alt+M, but still pretty speedy.
What are your thoughts to these new additions to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides? Are these services that you use regularly? If so, what primary issue would you most like to see addressed in future updates? Let us know in the comments below!

‘Minecraft’ creator wants you to go on a kaleidoscopic trip
Markus “Notch” Persson, the creator of Minecraft has something to show you, but you might not be ready for it. Okay, “your browser might not be ready for it” is probably the more accurate statement. The project? A kaleidoscopic “ray marching fractal generator” that’ll run in virtual reality on certain browsers, or just plan old 2D on basically everything else. Spotted by Road to VR, the mesmerizing geometry project (dubbed Unmandelboxing) apparently only weighs about 3.5 KB.
And it seems like that was intentional. Road to VR notes that in the source code you’ll find that the image size is a paltry 426×240 pixels and the whole thing uses the relatively limited RGBA332 color palette. Despite Notch’s interest, then disinterest and then indifference toward Oculus, he’s made Unmandelboxing playable in WebVR with the second Oculus RIft development kit:
You need a browser that supports WebVR. If you don’t know if you do, you don’t. WebVR is very fringe technology still. Google it!
— Markus Persson (@notch) January 25, 2016
Road to VR also writes that currently includes a “properly installed and configured” version of Mozilla Nightly but not much, if anything, else. If you think it’s worth the effort to see it for yourself, hit the source links below.

Oracle will soon lay the Java browser plug-in to rest

Now that Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari don’t support plug-ins anymore, Oracle thought it best to accept the Java plug-in’s fate and let it go. The company has announced that it will be deprecated in the next version of Java to come out on September 22nd before being removed entirely by another future release. In its whitepaper, the company said that the “rise of web usage on mobile device[s]” led browser makers to ditch plug-ins altogether. Mobile browsers don’t support them, so they’ve become a casualty in Google’s/Mozilla’s/Microsoft’s/Apple’s plans to offer the same features across platforms.
Oracle wrote in its blog:
With modern browser vendors working to restrict and reduce plugin support in their products, developers of applications that rely on the Java browser plugin need to consider alternative options such as migrating from Java Applets (which rely on a browser plugin) to the plugin-free Java Web Start technology.
The Java plug-in is known for being a huge security vulnerability, with at least one report calling it the biggest risk to computers in the US. It’s the end of an era for sure — your browser won’t ask if you want to update Java anymore — but we’ll bet you’re cool with that.

Facebook’s revamped Reaction buttons are due to launch soon
Facebook’s changes to their Like system are due to hit the social network soon. These new “Reactions” were teased back in October, but now we can expect an official rollout to users over the next few weeks.
These new reactions cover everything from your normal likes and loves that we’re used to seeing on social media, but there are also reactions for laughter, shock, grief, and a few others. We still won’t get a dislike button because of how easily that would turn into a negative experience for users, but the wide range of emotions is a significant improvement over the current one-dimensional like. After all, natural disasters and personal tragedies are hardly things that any of us like, despite what status updates on Facebook say.
The six new emotions available for users will help Facebook figure out what gets the most reactions out of users, and should hopefully help to drive more interaction on the site. We’ll find out in a few weeks.
