Amazon delivery drivers sue for employee benefits and compensation
Four Prime Now delivery drivers in LA have filed a lawsuit against Amazon for making them work like employees when they were being compensated as contractors. According to The Wall Street Journal and The OC Register, the suit explained that the plaintiffs should have received employees’ benefits, since they couldn’t refuse or pick deliveries, were required to wear official uniforms and were expected to work regular shifts for six to seven days a week. Those benefits include overtime pay, lunch breaks and paid leaves, among others. Instead, they reportedly had to use their own vehicles and pay for gas out of pocket to make Prime Now’s one-hour delivery promise possible. The suit also accuses Amazon of withholding the tips customers paid via credit card from the drivers.

Best Buy Accepting Apple TV 4 Orders for Store Pickup on November 4
Best Buy is now accepting Apple TV 4 pre-orders on its U.S. website for in-store pickup or delivery beginning Wednesday, November 4. The electronics retailer is carrying the new Apple TV in 32GB and 64GB models for $149.99 and $199.99 respectively alongside an optional two-year AppleCare Protection Plan for $29.

Apple has not confirmed when the new Apple TV will be available at Apple Stores in the U.S. and other launch countries, but next week is a possibility based on Apple’s own shipping estimates and Best Buy’s in-store release date. Personal Pickup for the new Apple TV is currently unavailable through the Apple Online Store.

Apple began taking online orders for the new Apple TV a few days ago, and the first set-top boxes will begin shipping to customers later this week. The earliest deliveries should arrive on October 30 for those who opted for one-day shipping, while standard shipping delivery estimates range between November 2-6.
Apple TV 4 orders have shifted to “Preparing for Shipment” status for many customers.

Best Buy is a convenient option for prospective Apple TV 4 buyers that prefer in-store pickup and do not have an Apple Store within close proximity. The electronics retailer has around 1,050 stores in the U.S., in addition to nearly 200 locations in Canada. The chain also operates in Mexico.

Open this link as a different user with Chrome Canary’s new feature
Switching between Chrome browser profiles is easy. But, like all trivial internet tasks, it can somehow become a chore. Or, worse, all too easily forgotten about. Especially if you’re just about to open a link you don’t want popping up in, say, your corporate browsing history. An update to Google’s testbed Chrome Canary browser lets you open links as any user logged in, not just the one you’re currently using. Right click, “Open Link as…” and your sneaky peek at that bacon fat popcorn recipe, won’t show up in your vegan partner’s browser history (if you’re sharing a laptop).

With job cuts on the horizon, Sprint will reduce severance pay by half after Jan 30, 2016
At the beginning of this month, Sprint announced its plans to achieve around $2.5 billion in savings by cutting costs, with a round of job losses looming large on the horizon being just one of the measures. It seems that Sprint is becoming creative in the way it cuts costs, though, if its latest move is anything to go by. As if it isn’t bad enough just losing a job, if an employee receives notification of the job loss after January 30th, he or she will only receive half the severance pay they would have if notified before that date.
Whereas Sprint currently offers 2 weeks of severance pay per full year of service, this will be whittled down by half if an employee receives their pink slip notification after January 30th, 2016.
Melinda Tiemeyer, a Sprint spokeswoman, said that the change in severance pay packages doesn’t mean that the carrier will wait until after January 30th to notify affected employees. She went on to say that notifications will be sent out before that date, and that it was part of CEO Marcelo Claure’s plan to transform the company.
There is never a good time to worry about losing one’s job, but it’s especially unpleasant at this time of year. And now, Sprint employees have to worry not only about if they will receive notifications but when.
Today’s news is just the latest negative press for Sprint, the carrier recently lost an appeal in the state of New York regarding a $300 million fine for failing to collect taxes, it’s facing another fine because of discriminating against customers with low credit scores by charging them more, and it’s also facing a PR backlash because of its decision to cut off broadband internet access to more than 300,000 users.

Honda Clarity is your new fuel cell future vehicle
We know it will go on sale in the US next spring. We know it will have an estimated range of over 300 miles. We know it will start sales in California, since that’s where the hydrogen stations are. But perhaps the one key detail about Honda’s new fuel cell vehicle that we are learning today is the name. It will be the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell.Slideshow-335664

Marks and Spencer suspends website after customer details leak
Shoppers logging into the Marks & Spencer website were given a little surprise last night when it began sharing other people’s account details. The company confirmed that a “technical issue,” not an attack by a third party, resulted in personal data, including names, dates of birth, contacts and previous orders to become easily viewable. Some customers also reported being able to see credit card details, but Marks & Spencer says data was encrypted and no full numbers were shared.

Google is giving $25 refunds for delayed Nexus 6P shipments
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Many of you will be eagerly waiting for your Nexus 6P to arrive, but it’s been reported that are some delays which Google is apologizing for in an email. That’s not particularly unheard of, but what is unheard of is Google refunding $25 to some people due to these delayed Nexus 6P shipments, deducted when the phone is shipped. It appears that apart from having ordered a Nexus 6P and have an affected order, you’ll also need to have a specific configuration of the device – presumably these are either the more popular or more expensive devices. Here’s the email that some people have been receiving:
Hello there —
Thank you for buying a Nexus 6P from the Google Store. We’re really excited about this phone and we hope you are too. But we have some not-so-great news: It’s going to take a little longer to get the 6P to you than we would have liked. We’re working hard to meet the strong demand we’re seeing for the color and memory size you ordered, and we promise it will be worth it! Rest assured that orders will still be shipped in the order that they were received.
As of now, we’re expecting to deliver your 6P order between 11/7/2015 and 11/14/2015, and we’ll send you a notification as soon as it goes out the door. As a courtesy, we’ll give you a $25 refund on your purchase, which we’ll process soon after your phone ships.
We know that waiting a bit longer can be inconvenient, though remember we won’t charge you until your order ships. We also want to make sure you’re aware that you can cancel your order. We’d hate to see you go, but if you need to, just follow the instructions here.
We apologize for this news, and thank you again for your order.
Sincerely,
The Google Store Team
It’s not exactly a huge delay – it looks like about just over a week extra – but it’s a nice gesture by Google nonetheless. Have you been affected by these delayed Nexus 6P shipments? Let us know your story in the comments below.
