HTC teases “the next evolution of the One” ahead of its NYC event

HTC-logo-aa-1

HTC is set to unveil its next smartphone on October 20th in New York City, where we’re pretty sure the Taiwanese company will officially announce the rumored HTC One A9 (aka Aero). There’s been no shortage of rumors regarding this new handset, from leaked images to purported availability details. And now that the official announcement is just one week away, it looks like HTC is in full hype mode.

To generate as much hype as possible, the company has just tweeted out a teaser that features a short little monochrome video. Unfortunately it doesn’t actually give us much information about what we’ll see at the event, but take a look just in case you’d like to speculate.

http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Also attached to the tweet is a link that brings us to the event page on HTC’s website, which tells us that HTC is partnering with Tidal (Jay Z’s music streaming service) for the event. From the website:

Those who appreciate great music know greatness when they hear it. That’s why it only makes sense to partner with Tidal to celebrate the launch of our newest device for an event unlike anything that’s ever rocked the Barclays Center.

So all in all, we’re pretty sure that we’ll see HTC unveil the One A9 on the 20th, and it will have something to do with Tidal. Perhaps purchasers of the One A9 will get a free Tidal subscription? We aren’t entirely sure. In any case, the event will take place on Tuesday, October 20th at 12pm EST/9am PST. We’ll be sure to bring you all of the details as they happen, so stay tuned for more coverage!

OnePlus teases “beauty in the making”

oneplus-beauty

OnePlus is not one to stay quiet about its upcoming smartphones and teasers for something “beautiful” have begun showing up today. The image, which was shared both through Facebook and Twitter, simply shows what seems like either creased paper or some kind of powdery material. Regardless of what the photo displays, though, OnePlus claims it represents “beauty in the making”, and goes as far as using the hashtag #PowerfullyBeautiful.

Needless to say there is not much we are getting out of this ad, but we have previously heard of a second 2015 OnePlus handset coming. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei mentioned this mysterious gadget wouldn’t be like previous handsets the Chinese startup has built. Instead of focusing on high-end specs and power, this rumored device is to have a high emphasis on design, a statement which happens to go right in line with today’s teaser.

“I think its going to be a phone catering to a different type of audience. Perhaps for those who appreciate design over specs.” -Carl Pei, Co-Founder at OnePlus

OnePlus CEO Carl Pei

The rumors!

Rumors say OnePlus is working on a “Mini” smartphone. The smaller device is rumored to feature a 5-inch 1080p display, a MediaTek Helio X10 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front shooter and a 3000-3100 mAh battery.

But all of that is irrelevant to those who OnePlus is targeting with this handset. As already mentioned, what matters is the aesthetics – so what is it that will make the OnePlus Mini (or whatever device they announce) stand out? We know nothing but rumors so far, but if the OnePlus Mini happens to be real and the rumors prove to be true, it will all be about customization.

While the phone is said to be built of plastic, the true lure is that the company might also sell accessories that change the colors and styles of the phone. Something like what others have been doing with removable back covers, we suppose.

Conclusion

Don’t you worry, guys. The hype train has just taken off and you can be sure more teasers will be coming soon. This is OnePlus, after all! What do you guys think about the idea of a good-looking phone that has lesser specs, though? Is that something you would be interested in? By the way – judging by the rumored specs, the phone might not be a weakling either!

HTC teases the “next evolution of the One” for October 20

HTC_One_M9_Back_HTC_Logo_TA

One week from today, HTC will unveil its next phone that is expected to be the One A9. The company will share the floor at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn later that day with Tidal for a charity concert that will benefit the New World Foundation. Needless to say, HTC will have a very busy October 20 this year. HTC is continuing to build hype for next week by releasing a teaser video that proclaims the “next evolution of the One” is coming.

http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

The actual video, though, is rather vague and only shows desert landscapes, outer space, and rain. It doesn’t quite make sense to us. But who knows, maybe it makes sense to you.

You can get the Huawei Watch’s wireless charging cradle from the Google Store

huawei_watch_wireless_charging_cradle

Like most smartwatches, the Huawei Watch utilizes wireless charging through little pogo pin connectors. So you’ll need a proprietary charger in order to get Huawei’s first Android Wear device ready for use; therefore, if you lose the one that comes with a new Huawei Watch, you’re going to need to purchase a replacement. Although Huawei is not selling its own device’s accessory just yet, the Google Store today started selling the wireless charging cradle.

The Google Store has the Huawei Watch’s wireless charging cradle priced at $39.

Apple Watch Now Available From B&H Photo

B&H Photo is now offering several different models of the Apple Watch, both online and in its retail store located in New York. Like other third party retailers that sell the Apple Watch, B&H Photo is only offering select Apple Watch stainless steel and Apple Watch Sport models.

With the Apple Watch in retail stores like Target, Best Buy, and B&H Photo, we may soon start seeing small discounts on the device. Each of these sites offers several other Apple products and they often have sales and deals available. With Black Friday approaching, it’s possible there could be Apple Watch models available at lower prices.

applewatchbandhphoto
The site is selling four different varieties of the stainless steel Apple Watch, offering the Black Stainless Steel model with a Black Sport Band in 38 and 42mm configurations and the Silver Stainless Steel model in 38 and 42mm configurations with a Product (RED) Sport Band, the Milanese Loop, and the White Sport Band.

Several varieties of the Apple Watch Sport are available, including Silver, Space Gray, Gold, and Rose Gold models with recent Apple Watch Sport Bands in colors like Midnight Blue, Antique White, Stone, Blue, and Lavender. B&H Photo is also selling Apple Watch charging cables and offering standalone Apple Watch bands.

Since August, Apple Watch availability has expanded to Best Buy, Target, and Sprint and T-Mobile locations.

Intel’s profit drops as PC sales keep sliding

Intel talks 6th-gen Core processors at IFA

Where goes the PC market, so goes Intel’s profit… and unfortunately, that means those profits are headed south. Intel is reporting a 6.3 percent year-over-year income drop for the third quarter that can largely be blamed on tanking PC sales. While it did see upticks in its data center and internet of things groups, they weren’t making nearly enough money to offset the loss from Intel’s bread-and-butter chip business. Processor shipments dropped a sharp 19 percent, and the only consolation was a 15 percent hike in selling prices — in short, those who did buy PCs were more likely to be performance mavens (like pros and enthusiasts) than everyday shoppers.

It wasn’t difficult to see this coming. The slow, staggered release of its 6th-generation Core processors (aka Skylake) left many vendors selling PCs that were past their prime — even the release of Windows 10 wasn’t going to persuade some people to buy old gear. And while Intel has been embracing mobile and wearables, it remains a PC-focused company in a world full of smartphones and tablets. The tech pioneer is bound to see better performance in the fall, but it may not be truly safe from profit drops unless it reduces its dependence on conventional computers.

Sci-fi fans will want to check out the final episode of Continuum (finally airing here in the US), and on Saturday night Tracy Morgan will be back on SNL. Gamers (that aren’t still powering through tracks on the new Rock Band) can check out the first episode of Telltale Games’ Minecraft: Story Mode on any system or Yoshi’s Woolly World on Wii U, while Aladdin and Team America: World Police top the Blu-ray drops this week.
