Twitch made multitasking a lot easier on iOS9
In case you hadn’t heeded that red flag on the App Store icon and downloaded the latest update for Twitch, you might want to fix that. The latest version of the streaming app favored by gamers adds a pop-out option for the game feed window for multitasking (like Android got months ago) and a couple of features that’re very specific to iOS 9’s new bag of tricks. Specifically, you can have a player window popped out of the app, hit the web browser or app of your choosing and then pop Twitch chat into its own pane. As the official Twitch blog tells it, that’s available on most newer iPad models. However, Split View (where you have two fill apps running at once, only works with the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 4.
Oh, and anytime you hit a Twitch link on your iGizmo now, instead of directing to the site’s mobile web version, the Twitch app will open instead. A bit of the old, a bit of the new is the name of the game here. Sadly you still can’t broadcast yourself watching Twitch. Yet.

According to an internal document from carrier Bell, which has been published by MobileSyrup, the Nexus 6P has been delayed until November 2nd due to supply issues. It’s unknown exactly what the issues are and while shipping to dealers and corporate stores will begin on October 23rd, none of these will be able to sell the actual handset to customers until November 2nd.
Over the past weekend, the Nexus 6P was removed from the Google Store in Canada and prior to this, delivery dates were being quoted as between Thursday, October 29th and Thursday, November 5th. It’s unknown whether these supply issues are affecting just Bell, all Canadian carriers or even other countries around the world but we’ll let you know if there’s any other countries experiencing delays.

AT&T and T-Mobile working to enable one number to work on multiple phones
T-Mobile Operating Chief Mike Sievert has stated that the company is working to offer customers the ability to share a single phone number across multiple devices. This could certainly be a useful feature if you’ve ever had to keep track of several numbers and devices, and is seen as a key marketing strategy to drive adoption of additional cellular connected devices, such as smartwatches and tablets.
T-Mobile is not the only company working to implement this type of technology. Rival carrier AT&T announced on Wednesday that it is working with device manufacturers to allow customers to use their phone number on multiple devices, including wearables and tablets. Automotive set-ups and number sharing across multiple smartphones are also apparently planned for the future.
“What we are working on will make this version one offering from AT&T look small … Our strategy is to ask customers what they want and need, and then build it. AT&T’s is to build or buy things, and then try to convince customers they asked for it.” – AT&T’s Mike Sievert
AT&T dubs its technology Number Sync. The first device supporting NumberSync are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, with additional products planned for the 2015 holiday season.
T-Mobile boasts that its implementation will go beyond what AT&T is planning, but declined to offer any specific details about how it will go about this. Neither Sprint nor Verizon have commented on any plans that they might have for number sharing on their networks.
Do you see yourself making use of a single phone number across multiple devices?
Custom Marshmallow ROMs in development for Nexus 7 (2012) and Galaxy Nexus

Unfortunately, not all the devices in the Nexus line-up have made the cut for an official Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, but the developer community is already hard at work to bring Marshmallow to the older Nexus 7 (2012) tablet and Galaxy Nexus smartphone.
Starting with the Nexus 7, Dmitry Grinberg, the same developer who recently pushed out a Marshmallow ROM for the Nexus 4, has uploaded a working AOSP ROM, although you’ll have to find a GAPPS package yourself. Everything appears to be working correctly, or at least not major bugs are listed, although the build is for the WiFi only version of the tablet, at least for now.
You can grab the package to make the build yourself, or download a flashable image or zip file from his website via this link.

Galaxy Nexus owners can thank XDA Forum user Ziyan for an experimental Marshmallow build that is currently in development. There appear to be a few bugs here, as the build is in the early stages. Video recordings crash and NFC is not working, and the developer doesn’t recommend it as a daily driver just yet.
If you’re the adventurous type, you can grab the experiment flashable zip file from the download page here. Installation instructions and build notes can be found under the discussions tab.
Mophie launches 2,500mAh battery case for the Note 5

Samsung used to be known for adding removable batteries into its devices but with this year’s Galaxy Note 5, the company followed the design of the Galaxy S6 and left out the removable back cover and accessible battery. In doing so, the company removed a feature that plenty of people used but as we covered in our Galaxy Note 5 review, the battery life isn’t actually that bad.

For those that think the 3000 mAh battery isn’t large enough to last a whole days’ usage, popular accessory maker Mophie has just expanded its range of battery pack cases with the addition of a new slim-line case, designed just for the Galaxy Note 5. The case comes with a 2,500 mAh quick-charge enabled battery that promises up to 13 hours additional talk time, 8 hours web browsing or 9 hours video playback.
The case is lightweight and features pass-through volume and power buttons, while also keeping the S-Pen accessible. However, at a cost of $99, it’s certainly not the cheapest power solution on the market, but will be ideal for those who love Mophie products. If a case with a built-in battery isn’t for you, Samsung also offers its own range of external battery packs, while there are plenty of third-party quick-charge enabled chargers available to buy as well.
Would you buy this Galaxy Note 5 case? Do you prefer a portable battery pack or a case with a battery built in? Let us know your views guys!
Lenovo’s Vibe P1 and P1m handsets to launch in India on October 21st with huge batteries in tow
Some manufacturers follow the strategy of slimming down the handset’s battery to make the device as thin as possible, often, seemingly, to the detriment of the user experience. Lenovo is bucking that trend, though, with its Vibe P1 and Vibe P1m handsets sporting batteries with capacities of 5,000mAh and 4,000mAh respectively. According to a media invite sent out earlier, Lenovo is launching both handsets in India on October 21st.
Let’s take a look at the larger of the two handsets first, the Vibe P1. Lenovo has bundled in features such as Rocket Charge, which seems to be very much like Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology, delivering 2.8 hours of talk-time for just 5 minutes of charge. There’s also a physical switch that enables the OneKey Power Saver function, extending battery life. The Vibe P1 will launch in India for around Rs. 17,500 ($270) on October 21st.
- Android 5.1 Lollipop with Vibe UI
- 5.5-Inch Full LD IPS display (Gorilla Glass 3)
- Snapdragon 615 Octa-core processor @ 1.5GHz (64-bit)

- MicroSD card support (up to 128GB)

- Weight: 189 grams
- Available in Platinum or Graphite Grey.
On to the mini version of the Vibe P1, if you will, the 5-inch Vibe P1m, and here we see a more budget-friendly offering from Lenovo. The Vibe P1m doesn’t have NFC connectivity, bit it does apparently have a nano-coating to help it withstand accidental spills, as well the physical OneKey Power Saver switch, which helps extend battery life. Check out the rest of the specifications below.
- Android 5.1 lollipop with Vibe UI
- 5-Inch IPS display with 1280 x 720 resolution
- MediaTek MT6735P quad-core processor @ 1.0GHz
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB Internal storage

- Battery: 4,000mAh (non-removable)

The Vibe P1m will launch in India on October 21st, with a price tag of around Rs. 10,000 ($154). What do you think of Lenovo’s Vibe P1 and P1m handsets? Have they been priced keenly enough for India’s congested smartphone market?

Feds launch fantasy sports probe due to insider trading scandal
In addition to fighting a class-action lawsuit accusing them of fraud, fantasy sports websites DraftKings and FanDuel now have to face scrutiny from the FBI. According to The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, feds have been getting in touch with prominent fantasy sports players to ask about their experiences playing on either website. If you recall, both companies are currently embroiled in a scandal after a DraftKings employee leaked data not typically available before the games begin. The same employee was discovered to have won $350,000 within the same week playing on rival website FanDuel. NYT found out soon after that it’s not an isolated case: both companies’ employees have been raking in big money playing on each other’s websites. That gave rise to allegations that they win big by taking advantage of insider info they have access to.
The feds are reportedly looking into whether the websites are preying on their customers, seeing as they have to pay entry fees and are dealing with real cash. That’s not all the authorities are investigating, though — because of what happened, they’re now also looking into the legality of daily fantasy sites. The WSJ says the Justice Department is now investigating whether they can be considered gambling sites, and hence should be regulated under the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006. FanDuel insists, however, that daily fantasy is a game of skill, not luck, and should continue being excluded from the internet gambling act.

Samsung launching two new Galaxy Note 5 colours

Samsung is known for reinvigorating its smartphone line with new colours after launch and while it didn’t do so for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, the company has today introduced two new colours for its Galaxy Note 5 phablet in South Korea.
Customers in Samsung’s home market will now be able to buy the Galaxy Note 5 in Silver Titanium or Pink Gold, which adds to the existing colour schemes (Black Sapphire, Peal White and Platinum Gold). At the launch of the Note 5, Samsung showed off the Titanium Silver Galaxy Note 5 but this wasn’t released to the market and presumably, this is the same colour scheme that has just been launched in South Korea.

The Pink Gold Note 5 looks to be an answer to the increase in pink-clad smartphones and, at least based on the press image, it looks to be quite a deep pink colour. As we covered in our Galaxy Note 5 colour comparison, the silver titanium definitely looks to be the best handset if you’d like the rear of the handset to double up as a mirror but of course, the Black and white colours are much better at hiding any fingerprints.
How much will the new Galaxy Note 5 colours cost you? The Silver Titanium will be available with either 32GB or 64GB internal storage at a cost of 899,900 won ($800) and 965,800 won ($850) respectively, while the Pink Gold Galaxy Note 5 will be available in 64GB storage only at a cost of 965,800 won ($850).

HTC One A9 shows up at Orange France ahead of launch

We weren’t expecting to see the HTC One A9 for a few more days yet, but a listing for the handset has appeared over at Orange France’s website. The page gives us a quick look at the handset, along with hints at a few specifications.
The leak doesn’t contain too many spoilers about the hardware inside the HTC One A9, although it does suggest that the smartphone will come with a 5-inch screen with a 1080p resolution. There is also mention of a 13 megapixel rear camera, 4 megapixel front facing camera and 4G LTE speeds. The One A9 will also ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and HTC’s Sense Home software.

Previous rumors suggest that the One A9 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, and a fingerprint scanner too.
The Orange France listing also gives us a price for the HTC One A9 – €599.99, which works out to roughly $690. This certainly seems a little high given the phone’s mid-range specifications, so perhaps the handset will be less expensive at other retailers, or this could just be a placeholder price tag.
HTC is expected to officially unveil its One A9 smartphone on October 20th at an event taking place in New York.
LG announces G4 will begin receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow update from next week
Ever since Google officially announced Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the world last month, we’ve been waiting to see which manufacturer will be the first (other than Google and its Android One partners, of course) to update its devices to this latest version of Android. Thanks to a press release issued earlier today, it would appear that LG has sprung out of the traps ahead of the pack, by announcing that its G4 handset will be the world’s first handset to receive the Marshmallow update.
G4 users in Poland should begin seeing update notifications from next week onwards, while other European countries, and indeed, other regions such as Asia and the Americas, will follow soon afterwards.
LG’s posted changelog of added features is a little bare, to say the least:
- Permissions have been simplified with greater control of the information applications can access, not just at the time of installation but any time after (Granular permissions)
- Silent feature for sound and vibrate mode, as well as a Do Not Disturb mode to block all sounds or only alarms and notifications
- Doze mode which shuts down background processing of certain apps when the phone is not in use, to significantly prolong battery life
Chris Yie, vice president and head of marketing communications for LG Mobile had this to say:
“By working closely with Google, LG has been able to bring Android 6.0 to the G4 ahead of any of our competitors. While speed alone isn’t an indicator of great service, it does go a long way toward giving consumers the confidence that LG is committed to its existing customers first.”
So it’s great news for LG G4 owners, in Poland initially, with the rest of the world following suit soon after. Next in line for LG should be last year’s flagship, the G3, while the big question is whether LG will update the venerable G2 to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. That would truly be a sign of loyalty to its customers.
Full Press Release:
SEOUL, Oct. 15, 2015 — Owners of LG Electronics’ (LG) G4 smartphone will be the first in the world to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. LG G4 owners in Poland will begin receiving their M upgrade beginning next week with other markets in Europe, Asia and the Americas to follow.
The latest update to the Android operating system offers a number of features designed to enhance the user experience, such as:
- Permissions have been simplified with greater control of the information applications can access, not only at the installation stage but any time
- Silent feature for sound and vibrate mode as well as a Do Not Disturb mode to block all sounds or only alarms and notifications
- Doze Mode which shuts down background processing of certain apps when the phone is not in use, to significantly prolong battery life
“By working closely with Google, LG has been able to bring Android 6.0 to the G4 ahead of any of our competitors,” said Chris Yie, vice president and head of marketing communications for LG Mobile Communications Company. “While speed alone isn’t an indicator of great service, it does go a long way toward giving consumers the confidence that LG is committed to its existing customers first.”
Details of the Android M upgrade schedule and affected models will be announced in individual markets.
