Will the Samsung Galaxy S7 be unveiled in January?
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
We’re heard quite a few Samsung Galaxy S7 rumours of the last few days including the fact that the new smartphone may have a form of 3D Touch and a USB Type-C port. The latest suggestion is that Samsung‘s new smartphone from its most iconic line of devices will be announced early. This would make sense given that the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ were announced in August, a month earlier than the usual September slot, which begs the question: will the Samsung Galaxy S7 be unveiled in January?
Note, that this is not anything unusual for Samsung – the Korean manufacturer has been very happy to forgo attending large conferences in preference of personalized events to show off their new devices. If Samsung were to announce the Galaxy S7 in January, this would give them a full month’s headstart before MWC 2016 which happens at the end of February – they might even have the device ready to sell at that point if all goes to plan. Of course, all of this is just conjecture at this point, but given how much Samsung is rocking the boat at the moment, we wouldn’t be surprised if this is how it all turned out.

LG G Vista 2 coming to AT&T with a large display, new design and more power

Looking for a budget phone to use on AT&T? The carrier has unveiled a brand new phone for those looking to have a large display on a budget. It’s the successor to the LG G Vista from 2014, and it’s simply named the LG G Vista 2. It comes with some good specs and significant improvements, though, so keep reading to learn all about it!
Let’s start with the specs, shall we? AT&T and LG don’t go too much into the details, but the main features are clear. For starters, the LG G vista 2 sports a stronger Snapdragon 615 Soc, which is definitely an upgrade over the predecessor’s Snapdragon 400.
The screen has also been upgraded to a 5.7-inch 1080p panel, as opposed to 720. Other characteristics include Android 5.0, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, microSD support, an included stylus, a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front shooter.
If there’s something I like about LG’s devices it is that even the lower-end handsets feature all the software improvements that LG has to offer. The LG G Vista 2 takes advantage of Knock On, Knock Code, QSlide , Quick Memo and more. Not to mention all the cool things you can do with that fancy stylus.
It’s also exciting to see that this phone adopts the LG G4‘s iconic design. The back has that 3D checkered effect, and it seems to be slightly curved, too. Obviously, the buttons are still in the back, which is something that won’t be changing anytime soon.

There’s no mention of when the phone will be released, nor do we know how much it will cost, but this gadget should offer good value for your cash when it does hit the market. We also have to wonder if it is ever coming to Verizon, as well. The previous iteration came to both AT&T and Big Red.
What do you guys think of the LG G Vista 2? Are you thinking about getting one?

Will Samsung unveil the Galaxy S7 this January?
We have been hearing some rumours here and there about the new Galaxy S7. Now, there are some new ones saying Samsung might speed up the launch of the S7 to this January.
We already know that Samsung will for sure release a flat screen phone and a dual curved edge phone just like they did this year. It’s hard to say exactly when Samsung will show off these new devices to the world, but the rumours are pointing to January 19th. That would be two weeks before MWC starts, Samsung usually unveils new devices there. It’s not too far fetched to believe this date since it’s only two weeks before the normal unveil time and because the Note 5 was also pushed up two weeks compared to it’s normal release date.
The report is also saying the S7 may feature a new ePoP chip which combines all the main sensors on a single die. The first phones to use this before were the S6 and S6 Edge last year.

Uber is running Bing mapping cars on streets for months
It looks like Uber doesn’t want to leave any stone unturned in order to improve its mapping technology, especially since it has decided to go head to head with Google and Apple in the war of self-driven cars.
The cab service provider is reported to be running a number of mapping vehicles to capture 3D images of streets – not unlike Google Street view, albeit with drivers. Now that the mapping cars bearing Uber’s branding have been capturing images of streets for months, the data is likely to be used to improve the accuracy of route suggestions as well as ETAs. For example, the improved data would warn the driver in advance before entering a street that is frequently congested, an Uber representative told BuzzFeed.
It all started in March when Uber acquired mapping startup deCarte followed by acquisition Microsoft’s mapping technology and team in June. The company already has partnerships with Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and the University of Arizona, close to which Uber has deployed a separate fleet of mapping vehicles. These vehicles use Uber’s propriety algorithm to capture images to collect data on safety needs of autonomous cars.
Uber currently uses a mixture of its home grown algorithm and Google Maps to navigate through streets and predict ETAs. But with a helping hand from acquired companies, it clearly has its eyes set on the future, which belongs to autonomous vehicles.

A preview of NYC’s underground park is now open to the public
Since underground parks aren’t exactly commonplace, non-profit group Lowline has opened an exhibit to give New Yorkers a glimpse of the future subsurface Manhattan park it’s planning to build. This open laboratory is called the Lowline Lab, situated inside a 1,000 square feet abandoned market on the Lower East Side. In order to supply light to its 3,000 or so plants, the structure has mirrors that capture sunlight on the roof, which is then funneled through tubes and distributed through a solar canopy. According to the group’s website, this experiment will help it determine which plants are most suitable for a subterranean garden. It’s still unclear when the park itself will be launched, but the Lab is now open to the public for free every Saturday and Sunday until March 2016. Even if you can’t go, you can still see what it looks like, thanks to Inhabitat touring the facility and taking photos of the indoor lab and the plants growing in it.

Get a daily fresh look at the Earth with NASA’s new website
NASA launched a new website Monday to remind forgetful Terrans what their planet looks like. The website will feature at least a dozen new images of the Earth’s full, sunlit face from within the past 36 hours. The EPIC (Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera) aboard NASA’s DSCOVR (Deep Space Climate Observatory) satellite will be responsible for capturing these images from its orbit at L1, a distance of roughly one million miles. While the EPIC itself only boasts a 4 megapixel resolution, it is capable of snapping up to 10 narrowband wavelength images at a time. By combining three of these single-color images into a composite, NASA can generate 12 MP images for the site.

Uber starts rolling out its own mapmaking cars
This past June, Uber struck a deal with Microsoft to acquire some of Bing’s mapping tech and staff. But back then neither company was willing to disclose specific details about the agreement, with both only going as far as acknowledging it had actually happened. Now, BuzzFeed News reports that the ridesharing service has started deploying its own mapping vehicles, which are said to be the same ones Microsoft previously owned and used in its efforts to capture street data. Uber’s rebranded cars (pictured above) are similar to Google’s StreetView fleet, featuring a 3D spherical camera capable of snapping locations around it. An Uber spokesperson told BuzzFeed News the company’s hoping the image-capturing tech will help it improve in key areas for drivers and passengers, including better route information and more accurate estimated time of arrivals.
Beyond that, though, the data collected by these map-making cars could also tied to Uber’s autonomous project. After all, Uber developing a self-driving taxi is far from being a well kept secret, especially since the company has been hard at work on finding people to assist in bringing it to life.

Rogue federal agent to serve 6.5 years for Silk Road scandal
Former federal agent Carl Force has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison for his role in obstructing justice while investigating the online black market, Silk Road. As Reuters tells it, prosecutors were aiming for a longer sentence (87 months, or 7.25 years) but the defense was aiming for a brisk four-year sentence due to a history of mental health issues. To back up that claim, Force said he didn’t understand a lot of what he was doing. Even the movie deal? Ars Technica reports that Force will have to pay $337,000 in restitution to a CoinMKT customer and $3,000 to an arrested Silk Road employee by the name of Curtis Green. If you’ll remember, the last federal agent involved with the corruption charges, Shaun Bridges, is awaiting trial, while Silk Road’s mastermind Ross “Dread Pirate Roberts” Ulbricht was given a life sentence for his crimes.
