ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser 5.5 now on sale in India: Rs. 13,999

ASUS has announced quite a number of new products this year in its Zen-device portfolio, from phones to tablets. One such installment has just gone on sale in India, the ZenFone 2 Laser. A lower spec-variant released several months ago in Japan, however the device is gradually expanding its global presence and multiple configurations. This variant of the ZenFone 2 Laser goes by the product code ZE550KL, and features a 5.5-inch HD (720X1280) IPS display. Inside the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC with Adreno 405 GPUm, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, a 13-megapixel laser auto-focus rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, and a 3000mAh battery. The phone supports 4G LTE, has Dual SIM capabilities, microSD support, Gorilla Glass 4, and ships with Android Lollipop. It will be sold in India in Black, Red, and White color variants.

If you are still undecided about the LG V10, here’s a quick recap of the specs. The handset comes with a 5.7-inch QHD IPS display and a smaller ‘ticker’ display, a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal memory, a 16 megapixel rear camera, dual 5 megapixel front facing cameras, and a 3,000mAh battery.
The LG V10 is apparently not off to the best start in South Korea, but perhaps these free goodies will help the phone see a strong release in the US?
Garmin launches a new smart scale and fitness tracker
If your company makes fitness trackers, then it’s probably wise to make your own scale, lest a rival firm steals your lunch from under you. It’s a lesson that Garmin has belatedly learned, which is why it’s now launching its first ever smart scale, although it’s previously offered weight recording with other devices. The firm is also revamping its Vivosmart activity tracker, adding a built-in optical heart rate sensor that’ll keep track of your vital statistics all through the day.
HTC’s quirky action camera drops to $50
When HTC launched the Re Camera last year, it was difficult to recommend. The image quality was pretty underwhelming, especially in comparison to GoPro’s extensive lineup; when you can snap similar photos with your smartphone, that’s a real problem. It could have worked, however, as a cheap throwaway action camera, but its $200 price-tag made it a difficult impulse purchase. Now, that’s finally changing. The waterproof device has been slashed to $50 in the US, making it a fun, rugged little snapper for the great outdoors. Instead of putting your expensive phone in harm’s way, you can strap this periscope-styled device to your bike, helmet or backpack. The photos and videos it produces aren’t the best, but they should be good enough to share on social media. Given the company’s financial woes, we suspect HTC won’t be making a sequel anytime soon either.

Blue’s Lola headphones slim down for a more comfortable fit
Blue, a company known primarily for its microphones, announced its Mo-Fi headphones last year. They sound great, but the cans are quite hefty. Mo-Fi houses a built-in amp to handle the high-quality audio, so the extra weight is necessary, albeit somewhat uncomfortable during extended listening sessions. Now, the company has a comfier headphone option with Lola. These new headphones leave out the amp, which cuts out the extra weight, and feature a slimmer headband. Without the bulk of the Mo-Fi, Blue says Lola brings the high-fidelity sound in a package that’s more cozy. Slideshow-334069
PuzzlePhone is a modular smartphone that’s going to give Project Ara a run for its money
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
When you hear “modular smartphone”, most people would immediately think about Project Ara, a modular smartphone project that is currently under Google’s wing in development. However, it looks like there’s a new kid on the block – and that kid’s name is PuzzlePhone. Unlike Project Ara, which appears to allow as many interchangeable modules as you like as long as they fit on the device, the PuzzlePhone offers only three customizable parts – the Spine, the Brain, and the Heart (see below).
The PuzzlePhone is going to be available starting at €299 (or $330 USD) when its Indiegogo campaign starts on November 3rd, with an expected retail price of €599 ($661 USD) when the campaign is over. That’s kind of a good deal for what is undoubtedly going to be one of the first modular smartphones, if not the first, when it is delivered sometime in Q3/Q4 2016 – whether or not they meet that target and whether the device works as intended is an entirely different story. We don’t have many more details than that (we’re assuming it runs Android), but no doubt everything will be revealed when the campaign goes live – you can sign up for updates on the PuzzlePhone website.

Samsung’s now pushing out a call stability update for the Galaxy S6 Edge+
Samsung is currently in the process of rolling out its first minor software update for the Galaxy S6 Edge+. This upgrade is identical to the update the South Korean company pushed out to the Note 5 last week, and brings some much-needed software optimizations and security improvements to the device.
The full changelog can be seen below:
- The stability of Call has been improved.
- Battery usage optimization.
- The security of your device has been improved.
Unfortunately, the record of changes is a little misleading where it states that the update bundles “battery usage optimizations.” This doesn’t refer to the software improving battery life on the S6 Edge+, but, instead, the brand new App Optimization section of the Settings menu, which allows users to stop applications form running in the background after 10 minutes in an effort to preserve battery life.
As is the norm, the update is being rolled out in stages. To see if it’s ready for your device head into Settings, scroll to the bottom and tap on “About Device”, hit “System Updates”, then select “Check for updates”. Alternatively, you can wait until you receive a push notification prompting you to install the upgrade.
