Motorola unveils wireless Pulse and Surround headphones

Moto Surround at the Motorola event

Hold on, folks — Motorola’s big event wasn’t done when it unveiled a trio of new smartphones. The company has also launched two sets of Bluetooth headphones, the in-ear Surround (shown above) and over-ear Pulse (below). Besides the form factor, you’re choosing based mostly on longevity. The bigger Pulse lasts a healthy 18 hours on a charge, while the tinier, waterproof Surround will get you a smaller but respectable 12 hours of listening. They’re both available today, starting at $60 for the Pulse and bumping up to $70 for the Surround.

OnePlus 2 pricing details around the globe

oneplus 2 launch aa (34 of 93)

We finally known all the juicy details about the OnePlus 2, and it is offering quite a compelling hardware package for a sub $400 handset. The August 11th release date isn’t too far away either and OnePlus has now provided a handy pricing chart to give us an idea of what the handset will cost around the world.

With 50 times as much inventory than last time around and plenty of extra invites apparently planned, the OnePlus 2 will be making its way to plenty of countries around the globe this year. The pricing chart below gives a comparison of the costs in various currencies from twelve different countries, which are presumably where the handset will appear first. The chart includes prices for both the 3GB RAM / 16GB flash and 4GB RAM / 64GB internal memory models.

OnePlus 2 regional prices

As usual, exchange rates doesn’t always work out as nicely as we would hope. The price of the OnePlus 2 seems a big high in Euros when compared with USD or even GBP, but I suppose this is taking into account tax differences and any extra import costs. Even so, the OnePlus 2 is a very reasonably priced smartphone.

If you want to check out the handset yourself before stumping up the cash, the OnePlus 2 is making a tour around a selection of cities across the world from July 31st. Failing that, take a peek at our early hands-on and initial impressions.

Moto X Style announced

moto-style

After revealing the next-gen Moto G at a separate event in India this morning, Motorola is back again with more announcements. One of the most exciting of these is the Motorola Moto Style, the successor to the Moto X (2014).

The latest device comes with a Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB RAM, a 5.7 QHD display, 16/32/64GB storage with microSD, a 21MP camera that Motorola says is state of the art, and a refined, stylistic design that offers a curved back, front facing speakers, and the choice of three different metallic accents. On the rear, you’ll find a coated silicon rubber that is soft feeling with a warm look but as been formulated to resist discoloration over time. As expected, you’ll also have options like wood or leather through the Moto X.

The new Moto X Style is expected to cost $200 to $300 less than flagships from its rival brands, though no firm price tag has been mentioned just yet.

Moto X Play announced

moto-x-play

At its special press event today, Motorola took the wraps off of three new devices. We’ve already talked about the Moto G and Moto X Style, now it’s time to focus on the Moto X Play.

The Moto X Play is essentially a cheaper version of the flagship Moto X Style, featuring the same general specifications with the exception of the processing package, which swaps the Snapdragon 808 in favor of a Snapdragon 615 processor. The 615 features an octa-core 64-bit architecture that should make easy work out of most tasks, without taking a big toll on the battery.

Other specs include a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 2GB RAM, 16/32GB storage, and the same 21MP camera of the Moto X Style, alongside a 5MP wide angle camera at the front. Like the Moto X Style, the Play also comes with a massive 3,630 mAh, that should be good for 2 days of usaage, 42% more than the S6.

The Moto X Play will cost $300 to $400 less than its competitors, according to Motorola. This is very interesting, and we think we can expect a very attractive price.

Motorola India jumps the gun, announces Motorola Moto G 3rd gen a few hours early

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

So time differences are a thing. Even though the official Motorola announcement event happening in London, New York City and Sao Paulo is still hours away, Motorola India has decided to get festivities underway early by announcing the Motorola Moto G 3rd gen. According to its Twitter account, Motorola India is live tweeting its launch event which has revealed the Moto G has an IPX7 rating, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 5-inch 720p display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor.

motorola moto g 3rd genOf course, none of this information is any surprise given that the box for the Moto G was leaked out a few days ago. Notably absent from Motorola India’s launch is any mention of customization because standard back covers – no doubt because Moto Maker is restricted to the US. There was one interesting tidbit from the event which was that the Moto G 3rd gen will have Quick Capture, a feature that allows you to take photos with the flick of your wrist – this feature has previously only featured on the Moto X. We’re not sure of Motorola India has anything else to share, but we may have to wait until the big event before we get to see the Moto X and – fingers crossed – a new Moto 360 smartwatch.

Cat_40 (3)

It’s only a few hours since the OnePlus 2 was announced, so while we wait for Motorola’s announcement to get underway, let’s have a look at the S40, the new rugged smartphone from CAT that was also announced earlier today.

Cat_40 (2)

As you can probably tell, the CAT S40 is aimed at tradesmen and people who work outdoors that need a smartphone to be tough and durable, able to cope with life’s bumps and knocks. The S40 brings the following specifications to the table.

It isn’t exactly high-end, but the people that will be interested in rugged smartphones are probably more interested in the phone getting through the day without mishap. With that in mind, let’s have a look at what makes the CAT S40 durable.

UK’s Visualisation Lab uses VR to solve transportation issues

The UK’s Transport Systems Catapult has launched its new “Visualisation Laboratory.” It’s called that because it depends on virtual reality to, in the agency’s own words, “help generate innovation and overcome problems in the UK’s transport network.” The facility plans to install several VR systems in that lab, but its first and main one’s already in place: an omnidirectional treadmill around 20 feet in diameter paired with an Oculus Rift DK2. The system called Omnideck6 lets you walk and run — even crawl, since it was originally developed for military training — in all directions within VR environments.

The idea is to get scientists and engineers test their own inventions/solutions in virtual reality before building costly prototypes. It can also be used to test ordinary people’s reactions to new types of buildings and sidewalks shared with autonomous cars, as they make their way through virtual towns. You know what the best part is? You can actually rent the floor where the Omnideck6 is for £500 ($857) a day to test out your own software… or maybe even to throw a VR party.

Motorola’s next Moto G gets early reveal in India

Motorola is set to reveal its third-generation Moto G in the US, but it let the cat out of the bag a bit early by launching it early in India. As rumored, there’s nothing dramatically new, but it’s gotten a little better across the board, while keeping the relatively small price tag. The RS 11,999 ($185) device packs a similar 5-inch, 720p screen, 13-megapixel back camera, 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory as the last model, but now has a Snapdragon 410 chip and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. It also features 4G LTE, something that took a while to get to previous models. We’ll get a further look and a hands-on for the the new device in less than an hour, so stay tuned!
