EA puts women on the cover of ‘FIFA 16’ for the first time

Back in May, EA announced that FIFA 16 would feature 12 national women’s soccer teams, making it the first major sports franchise to focus on women’s sports. Today marks another milestone: FIFA 16 is now also the company’s first major sports title to feature a female athlete on its cover. Three of them, actually — depending on where you live.

It’s a step forward for women’s representation in gaming, but we kind of knew it was coming: When EA announced that Lionel Messi would grace the game’s cover, it said it would be adding additional players to regional covers — and some of the candidates were women. Now we know the final lineup: US buyers will see Olympic gold medalist Alex Morgan running alongside Messi; in Canada, Morgan will be replaced by local favorite Christine Sinclair and Stephanie Catley will grace the cover in Australia.

These three women aren’t just some of the most recognizable players in their league; they’re also teammates — they all currently play for the Portland Thorns, professionally. Now if only EA could make its star players look a little less awkwardly photoshopped on its cover art, we’d be living in a better world.

Windows gets an emergency security fix across most versions

Dell XPS 15

If you use Windows — just about any recent version of it, in fact — you’re going to want to check for updates as soon as you can. Microsoft has released an emergency, off-schedule patch for a security hole that lets ne’er-do-wells hijack your system if you open documents or websites that use embedded OpenType fonts. The flaw exists in virtually every edition of Windows that Microsoft still supports, ranging from Vista all the way to your preview copy of Windows 10. There’s no evidence that an attack exists in the wild, but you’ll definitely want to get the fix before malware writers get their act together.

New Humble Mobile Bundle offers up 8 NEOGEO games for cheap

Screen Shot 2015-07-20 at 2.37.01 PM

The newest Humble Bundle for mobile devices has just launched, offering up eight great games from popular developer NEOGEO. All of these games would normally cost around $23 if purchased separately from the Google Play Store, but today you can snag them for just over $4.

In case you’re unfamiliar, the Humble Bundle team offers up a handful of great mobile games every other week, and lets users pay basically whatever they’d like. It’s a great way to score some awesome mobile games and help charity at the same time. So without any further ado, let’s take a look the games being offered in this bundle.

If you pledge at least $1, you’ll be able to download these five games:

  • METAL SLUG X
  • METAL SLUG 2
  • THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’97
  • BLAZING STAR
  • GAROU: MARK OF THE WOLVES

If you choose to pay more than the average price (currently just $4.60), you’ll unlock these three games:

  • METAL SLUG 3
  • SAMURAI SHODOWN II
  • FATAL FURY SPECIAL

As an added bonus, paying $29.99 will not only score you these eight games, but also a limited edition NEOGEO 25th anniversary Metal Slug t-shirt.

All of the games being offered here are DRM-free, and as always, more will be added sometime next week. You can even decide how your purchase is divided between the developers, the Humble Bundle team, and the American Red Cross. If you’re interested, be sure to head to the source link below.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 vs Apple iPad Air 2

With Samsung having unveiled their latest Galaxy Tab S2 tablets, we take a look at the competitor that this new range of tablets has been created to directly compete against – the Apple iPad Air 2.

Both the iPad Air 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 have a 4:3 aspect ratio and the Galaxy Tab S2 is being marketed as a media consumption device, much like the iPad Air 2. As for the rest of the specs, we’ve compiled a list of the specs for each tablet and stacked the iPad Air 2 and the Galaxy Tab S2 against each other to see who comes out on top.

The winner? The Galaxy Tab S2 has a bigger battery, faster processor, and is lighter, but iOS has been proven to be better at memory management and power optimisation than Android. With that being said, it really is going to come down to the simple choice of Android against iOS given the similarities between these two devices.

Let us know what you think in the comments below.

You can now use Instagram’s search tool on the web

Android Authority Instagram

Instagram’s mobile application makes searching for hashtags, users and even locations a breeze. Up until now, this handy functionality has only been available through the Android and iOS apps, but now the developers are starting to roll this feature out to the web. The functionality remains mostly the same when talking about the web search feature. You’ll find landing pages for both hashtags and locations, similar to what you’d see in the mobile app, which allows you to scroll through a seemingly endless list of photos until you find the right one.

Just a few weeks ago, the search feature on Android was completely revamped, making the whole experience much more functional and easy to use. In fact, Instagram has really been upping the quality of its overall experience as of late. The development team just recently increased the photo upload resolution to 1080×1080 from 640×640, which made everyone’s timeline much clearer.

No, adding search to the web isn’t necessarily a groundbreaking feature, though it’s still a handy addition to the Instagram experience. The developers say search on the web is rolling out now, so head to Instagram’s website to start searching.
