Caterpillar’s rugged S40 smartphone will launch in 60 countries on August 1st

It’s only a few hours since the OnePlus 2 was announced, so while we wait for Motorola’s announcement to get underway, let’s have a look at the S40, the new rugged smartphone from CAT that was also announced earlier today.

As you can probably tell, the CAT S40 is aimed at tradesmen and people who work outdoors that need a smartphone to be tough and durable, able to cope with life’s bumps and knocks. The S40 brings the following specifications to the table.

  • 4.7-Inch IPS display with qHD resolution (540 x 960) with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 Quad-core @ 1.1Ghz
  • 1GB RAM

  • 8MP Rear camera (Auto-Focus)
  • 2MP Front-facing camera
  • Nano SIM with 2G/3G/4G connectivity
  • Bluetooth 4.1/ GPS/GLONASS/aGPS/ NFC
  • Battery: 3,000mAh (Non-removable)
  • Dimensions: 144.9 x 74.1 x 12.5mm
  • Weight: 185 grams

It isn’t exactly high-end, but the people that will be interested in rugged smartphones are probably more interested in the phone getting through the day without mishap. With that in mind, let’s have a look at what makes the CAT S40 durable.
