Summer is in full swing across the U.S., sorry Australia. That means a lot of things. Higher temperatures, more trips to the beach or to the hills, a bit of swimming and some picnics to name just a few. It also means some time hiding indoors in the AC to escape the heat. What better way to do that than with a slew of new games to keep you occupied. I certainly hope you have been saving up the Google Opinion Reward cents, because you will probably blow through those and a bit more real cash while you are at it. Google has placed a number of killer games on sale to help us survive the heat with price tags ranging from $0.99 to as low as $0.19. I do miss the crazy $0.10 and $0.50 app sales day, but saving a ton on a game you might be lusting over is still worth the price tag. Especially Monument Valley, Game of Thrones and Republique. Here is the list with links.

Metal Slug – $0.99 down from $2.99

Metal Slug 2 –  $0.99 down from $2.99

Metal Slug 3 – $0.99 down from $2.99

Metal Slug X – $0.99 down from $2.99

Game of Thrones – $0.60 down from $4.99

Monument Valley – $0.99 down from $4.99

THE KING OF FIGHTERS-A 2012 – $0.99 down from $2.99

THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’97 – $0.99 down from $2.99

SAMURAI SHODOWN II – $0.99 down from $2.99

Republique – $0.99 down from $4.99

Unium – $0.19 down from $1.99

Marvel Pinball – $0.50 down from $.99

Kiwanuka – $1.99 down from $3.00

Botanicula – $0.95 down from $4.99

FOTONICA – $0.89 down from $2.99

Age of Zombies – $0.10 down from $.99

GAROU: MARK OF THE WOLVES – $0.99 down from $3.99

FATAL FURY SPECIAL – $0.99 down from $3.99

BEAST BUSTERS featuring KOF DX – $0.99 down from $2.99

I grabbed Monument Valley when it was the free app on Amazon, but I will certainly be grabbing Republique, Samurai Showdown II and the Metal Slug series. Damn you Google. Get to it guys, before the sales deals are gone.

A Look at Third-Party Bands for Apple Watch

With two sizes, three models and dozens of bands to choose from, the Apple Watch is easily the most personable — and fashionable — product that Apple has ever released. But if the Classic Buckle, Milanese Loop or Stainless Steel Link Bracelet are too costly or don’t match with your fashion style, or you are simply looking to mix things up, look no further than the wide range of third-party bands available online.

In the absence of official third-party bands, several users have shared pictures of their unofficial bands in the popular The Great “Third Party Band/Strap” Thread within the MacRumors discussion forums. Most third-party bands are sold through Amazon, eBay or Etsy and generally cost considerably less than those sold by Apple, and all you need to get started are Apple Watch adapters.

Apple Watch Band Adapters

Apple Watch AdapterTo use a third-party band with your Apple Watch, you will need to fasten both ends of the band to an Apple Watch adapter, a tiny metal part with a slide-and-lock mechanism. These adapters can be purchased from Amazon or eBay, generally for less than $20 a pair, and allow for essentially any regular wristwatch band to be used with the Apple Watch.

If you already have a Classic Buckle or Modern Buckle, however, you can use the adapters from those bands to connect standard wristwatch bands to your Apple Watch. In the video below, Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy walks through the process of using the parts in the Classic Buckle band to connect a 22mm third-party watch band to the Apple Watch.

Given that unscrewing an Apple Watch adapter from the Classic Buckle or Modern Buckle requires using an uncommon pentalobe screwdriver, ordering adapters from Amazon or eBay is probably the easier option of the two. Regardless of which method you choose, the next step is the fun part: ordering a third-party band.

MacRumors members have been experimenting with and sharing photos of third-party bands in the discussion forums, and we’ve rounded up some of the popular choices among our readers below. ‘iPhone 6s’ Front Panel Depicted in New Photos, Said to Be in Production

An image said to depict the front panel of the upcoming “iPhone 6s” has been shared by French site Nowhereelse.fr [Google Translate] this afternoon, giving us our first glimpse at the screen for the device.

According to the site, the front panel images were shared by an informant who also said that the iPhone parts are currently in production and ready to be shipped to iPhone 6s assembly lines for use in the Silver and Gold iPhone 6s.

iphone6sfrontpanel1
As an “S” upgrade, the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus are not expected to feature physical design changes, so as is expected, the front panels said to be for the iPhone 6s look identical to front panels for the iPhone 6. Previous iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus part leaks have also confirmed that the casings for the device carry the same design as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, but there may be small design improvements and material changes to bolster strength and durability.

phone6sfrontpanel2
Nowhereelse.fr mentions that its source could not confirm if the panel included sapphire crystal or hints of Force Touch support. While the addition of Force Touch has been widely rumored for Apple’s next-generation iPhones, sapphire crystal displays are not expected and the devices are likely to continue using Gorilla Glass. While there were a few rumors hinting at the possibility of sapphire for the next-generation iPhones, rumors about such a feature have not picked up and no new sapphire deals have become apparent.

Along with Force Touch, the next-generation iPhones are rumored to include an improved 12-megapixel camera, an A9 processor, better Touch ID support, 2GB RAM, and a new rose gold color option.

Mass production of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is rumored to be beginning this month, with early production having started in late June.

NVIDIA Shield update trades ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ for Google Cast

Wish the original NVIDIA Shield Portable had Android 5.1 and Google Cast support? Now it does, but it comes at a price. A new, optional update for the Shield bestows the handheld with latest version of Lollipop, the ability to be a Chromecast / Google Cast source device and fixes a glitch that made Google Play Books unusable — but in trade, it takes away Miracast support and permanently removes a handful of apps. Specifically, the update uninstalls Sonic 4: Episode II, Expendable: Rearmed and the original Android browser for compatibility reasons. Bummer.

The update is optional — but if you want the latest Android features on the aging device, you don’t really have a choice. Check out the official update at the source link below.

Honda announces Android Auto and CarPlay support are coming

At its new R&D Center in Mountain View, California, Honda announced that it is adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to its upcoming vehicles. The first model that will support both car entertainment systems will be the 2016 Honda Accord, which the automaker unveiled at the event. In addition to making its future generation of vehicles compatible with Apple’s and Google’s smartphone integration systems, the auto company also announced an upcoming API for its rolling stool, the Uni-Cub. The Uni-Cub API will be launching this fall for any developers interested in building an app for a chair that rolls around the office.

JXE Streams: talking family with Batgirl in ‘Arkham Knight’

Even if your only exposure to the Batman mythos is through the excellent Arkham series of games by developer Rocksteady, (especially the latest, Arkham Knight) you’re pretty familiar with Commissioner Gordon’s daughter, Barbara. She’s one of the constant voices in The Dark Knight’s ear, and with the recent release of Knight‘s first downloadable episode we finally get to step into her shoes as Batgirl as she goes up against The Joker. How’s it all play out? Your guess is as good as mine because I’m going in totally blind on PlayStation 4 starting at 6 pm Eastern / 3 pm Pacific.

Tune in right here, at Engadget.com/gaming and on Twitch.tv/Joystiq to catch two straight hours of Batgirl shenanigans and my poor attempt at reconciling my crush on Mark Hamill’s iconic Crown Prince of Crime despite the awful things he’s done to the Gordon family.

The NVIDIA SHIELD Portable is a nifty little gaming system you can take practically anywhere, and it has now been given the update to Android 5.1. Of course if you don’t want the update, you have the option not to update it. They actually give you that option. Begs the question: why wouldn’t you want to update it? Of course everyone will want to update it because of the luscious goodies it has.

Chromecast support is the big prize you will receive with the Android 5.1 update.  It removes Miracast since it is not needed, and also gives an update to Twitch. The update also includes the removal of Sonic 4: Episode II, Expendable: Rearmed, and that Android browser that is pretty out-dated.

So let us know if you got the Android 5.1 update to your NVIDIA SHIELD Portable, and how great it is.

TV giant Comcast actually has more internet customers now

Comcast To Launch Video Streaming Service Called Stream

Just in case you were wondering why Comcast is suddenly ready with TV service for people who prefer to watch over the internet, the earnings report it released today can show you why. For the first time (albeit by a narrow margin of 22.55 million to 22.3 million), the cable giant has more high speed internet customers than cable TV subscribers. As it usually does in its financial Q2, Comcast lost TV subscribers, but fewer this year (69,000) than last year (144,000), a number it credits to ongoing improvements in customer service. While the shift away from TV is a small one right now, it reminds us of a similar tipping point: when Netflix streaming overtook discs, and never looked back.

CEO Brian Roberts mentioned on the earnings call that Stream is a way to reach younger users — like those already on its Xfinity on Campus streaming TV setup — who don’t want, and have never had, a cable box. Of course, it’s not done with TV, and that’s still the main pin in packages that add-on internet, phone, security and even home automation services, but times have changed. In fact, today much of Comcast’s financial good news had to do with its film segment and theme parks.

Bethesda’s ‘Fallout Anthology’ collection comes in a mini nuke case

If you’re a big fan of Bethesda’s Fallout franchise, or you just like collecting things, you’ll soon be able to nab a nuke. Not a real one, of course, but a miniature bomb case (complete with sound!) that houses all of the Fallout titles for PC that have been released to date. This means that you’ll get Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. You may have noticed that the upcoming Fallout 4 isn’t on that list, which you’ll have to purchase separately when it arrives in November. The Fallout Anthology collection actually arrives before the new title — September 29th in North American and October 2nd in Europe. There’s an empty slot for the new game to join the rest, though, and the set offers a refresher before Fallout 4 is released with a few extras of its own. Bethesda didn’t mention a price in its blog post, but Best Buy has a pre-order page up with the set listed for $50.
