OnePlus claims that the upcoming OnePlus 2 will be “the 2016 flagship killer”
OnePlus has sent out a post on social media to thank its partners that helped the company make the upcoming OnePlus 2. The post came with an image with all the names of the partners, with a side note mentioning how they helped OnePlus build “the 2016 flagship killer”.
This is quite a bold claim considering the fact of how quickly smartphones become obsolete after their release.
“Thank you to our partners who helped make the #OnePlus2 possible! Together, we’ve created the 2016 Flagship Killer.”
The OnePlus 2 will be released on July 27th, 2015. The post is fairly enthusiastic, considering the fact that OnePlus will most likely release a OnePlus third-generation smartphone by 2016. The device will come with high-end specs, such as an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (v2.1) processor, a fingerprint scanner, dual SIM support, 4 GB of RAM, and a 3300 mAh battery. The company confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will be priced under $450, which is a highly attractive price considering its specs.

HTC’s Under Armour-connected Grip fitness band is experiencing delays
Remember that fitness watch HTC unveiled alongside its HTC One M9 flagship back in March? Let me refresh your memory.
At Mobile World Congress, HTC unveiled a fitness watch with a partnership with Under Armour called “HTC Grip.” The HTC Grip had a design similar to the Nike FuelBand and was to be targeted towards athletes or just anyone who remains active. The device wasn’t going to have a dedicated heart rate sensor, but it did promise built-in GPS.
We haven’t heard much about the watch until today. Apparently, the Grip is experiencing delays and won’t be released until the end of the year. So if you were in a hurry to get your hands on one, it looks like you’ll have to wait a little longer.
The following is HTC’s statement regarding the delay:

Hugo Barra confirms again that Xiaomi is coming to the US
VP of Global Operations at Xiaomi Hugo Barra has confirmed once again that Xiaomi is coming to the US “soon”. We reported on Xiaomi coming to the US not too long ago, but now Hugo Barra gives a more exact date. In an interview with Bloomberg Barra states that he thinks Xiaomi will be in the US within a couple years.
“It’s no less than a year, plus, away… Potentially much more than a year away.”
Xiaomi seems to have big plans for the US market, but there sounds like a lot of behind the scenes problems stopping them from really jumping in. For now they are sticking with just selling accessories.

Google Inbox suggests the perfect time to resurface ‘snoozed’ emails
When you snooze an email in Google’s Inbox app, you’re normally given a few different reminder options: three customised defaults, “someday,” the last custom time you used, and a manually set place or time. For many emails, that means tapping the latter option and choosing a time slot the old fashioned way. It can be a little tiresome, so now Google is introducing contextual reminders. If you snooze an email that contains a date and time, Google will automatically suggest when to resurface it. So if you’ve booked a table at a restaurant, that might be an hour beforehand, or if you’re waiting on a package it could be the morning that it’s due to arrive. It’s not the most earth-shattering addition, but Inbox is all about smarter email management — and now it’s just a little bit smarter.

Samsung and Apple could adopt e-SIM technology
According to a report in the Financial Times, mobile market leaders Samsung and Apple are in advanced talks with the GSMA, the mobile telecom industry association, regarding plans to adopt Electronic SIM (e-SIM) technology. Such a move would drastically shake up the relationship between customers and network operators.
E-SIM technology enables devices to work on any supporting network without the need for a physical SIM card and would allow customers to switch carrier more easily. This may put an end to network exclusive handsets debuts and, more importantly, would allow consumers to switch between networks to find a better deal without having to change a physical SIM card. Current physical SIMs are tied to a specific carrier and won’t work with handsets locked to other networks.
“We have got everyone back on one point, with Apple and Samsung agreeing to be part of that specification … the plan is to finalise the technical architecture that will be used in the development of an end-to-end remote SIM solution for consumer devices, with delivery anticipated by 2016.” – Anne Bouverot, chief executive of the GSMA
The GSMA is apparently close to announcing an agreement on a standard for e-SIM implementation in smartphones. The standard is heading towards a common architecture, which should iron out all of the technical details to ensure that the technology works across carriers and with all participating smartphone manufacturers.
Several major network operators are already said to be on board, including AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica, Vodafone and others. Apple had previously tried to implement its own e-SIM idea, but barely convinced a couple of carriers to join its scheme.
That said, the specification is not expected to be finalized for a while yet, and it will be probably be later than 2016 before any devices supporting e-SIM technology reach the market.
Shot through the heart: Huawei Nexus will have a Snapdragon 810, not the 820

Many of us in the Android community are getting pretty hyped – the promise (or at least, rumoured promise) of two Nexus devices, one from LG and one from Huawei, is almost too good to be true. Today’s rumour refers to the Huawei part of the equation, and it could almost be seen as bad news. Just yesterday, renowned leaker @evleaks said that the Huawei Nexus was going to have the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor when it launches in Q4 this year. An analyst has come out of the woodwork today to refute this – according to Pan Jiutang, it’s pretty much impossible for the Snapdragon 820 to be in the Huawei Nexus due to the fact Qualcomm won’t be shipping the chip till December. The implicit meaning in all of this is that Huawei Nexus will have a Snapdragon 810 if it really does launch in Q4, which Pan and @evleaks both agree on – that isn’t bad necessarily, but it’s not exactly the beast we were hoping for.
Depending on which side of the fence you’re sitting on, this could be a dealbreaker. What’s more, if Pan’s prediction is indeed true, this implies that the Snapdragon 820 won’t feature in the LG Nexus either, which is expected to launch sometime in October or November. Maybe Google will have to rely on Huawei’s Kirin processor after all. I’m sure many of you are hoping that Pan is wrong in his analysis – we shall see.

Angry Birds 2 is going to be the genuine sequel to the original game

Angry Birds is getting a sequel – that’s right, none of the countless previous games like Angry Birds Star Wars, Angry Birds Transformers, or even Angry Birds Epic technically count as sequels. Angry Birds 2 is going to be the name of the sequel which is going to be released on July 30th for mobile platforms, but we actually know precious little about the sequel besides this teaser trailer released today:
I particularly like the caption in the video description “sooner or later, all parties get crashed…” Despite all the secrecy, we can probably assume that the age-old Angry Birds formula is going to form the foundation of Angry Birds 2 with a small amount of tweaking – but who knows, maybe Rovio has something up their sleeves. ‘Back to the Future’ to celebrate 30th anniversary in cinemas
For Back to the Future fanatics, October 21st, 2015 is a momentous day: it’s the destination date Marty and Dr. Brown chose for their journey through time. And now, it’s also when the movies are slated to hit the theaters for the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Yep, hardcore fans may want to get ready to take those Nike MAGs out of their display cases and wear them to a screening, because Back to the Future’s going back to the big screen. They’ll have to ask around to know which local cinema’s showing it, though, since it’s unclear how wide the re-release will be.
Collectors willing to drop $$$ for B2F goods, however, might want to mark their calendars one day early. Unfortunately, we’re not talking about functional hoverboards, though we’re hoping the technology gets developed, even if it’s for the franchise’s 50th anniversary. We’re talking about the DVD/Blu-ray collection Universal Pictures is releasing on October 20th, which includes the movie trilogy, the animated series and a two-hour multi-part documentary.

SanDisk announces the Connect Wireless Stick, a personal Wi-Fi media server/USB flash drive
These days phone storage can be a problem. As the tools we have to consume media have evolved, so too have the file sizes they occupy. MicroSD is on its way out on even the most steadfast of offerings (though Android M could change that). Thankfully SanDisk has a product to solve this conundrum.
The SanDisk Wireless Connect Stick is both a traditional USB storage drive and a personal media server. Specifically, it is “designed to give people a simple, intuitive way to save and access all of the great content they create and consume across multiple devices, without breaking the bank.” The premise is rather simple: load it up with any kind of file you want from your computer, then activate the accessory’s portable Wi-Fi hotspot and it’s instantly accessible with your mobile phone or tablet. Up to three devices can be connected at one time, and the battery life is promised at approximately 4.5 hours on a single charge for single streaming.

Moto X ’15 and Moto G ’15 leaked in the wild
There is yet more supposed leaks of the upcoming Moto X 2015 and Moto G 2015. This time, they were spotted in Brazil and Mexico, where photos of each device were taken.
First up is the Moto X 2015. There’s only one photo and of the back, no less, which appears to have the Kevlar Motorola is known for using in its other flagships, like the Droid Turbo and Droid Razr Maxx. Phandroid noticed a small hole at the bottom, which suggests that the back could be removable and replaceable.
Lastly, we have three photos of the Moto G 2015, one of the back, another of the top, and one more of the front of the alleged device. It appears to be made of plastic on the sides with textured finish on the back. The phone’s front shows a screenshot of it running Android 5.1.1.
Whether these devices are genuine remains to be seen. However, there are plenty of rumors of either device. Some of these include a sport version of the Moto X and leaked press renders and images. Still, Motorola does have an event on July 28th, and Lenovo’s CEO hinted the new Moto G would be released this month. In no more than two weeks, we’ll know exactly what the company plans to unveil.
