We’re big fans of the Fleksy keyboard but the main deterrent for some was that it costed money. Today, that deterrent has been removed with the news that Fleksy Keyboard goes free forever dropping earlier today. That means you’ll be getting the fastest keyboard in the world (Guinness World Record approved), which includes a GIF keyboard and the possibility of extensive theming, is available for absolutely nothing. Speaking about today’s update, Fleksy Co-founder and CEO, Kosta Eleftheriou said:
“We want every smartphone user to have the opportunity to experience fast, expressive, and intuitive typing. We believe the best way to do this is to make the app free for everyone.”
That’s not all the news for Fleksy today, with a new update dropping as well which will give the keyboard better search capabilities for its recently added GIF keyboard feature. According to Fleksy, the keyboard will automatically suggest GIFs based on what you’re typing, which seems like it would be pretty handy. With that, there’s almost no excuse not to at least try Fleksy keyboard, so if you’re interested, hit the Play Store link below to download it today:

HTC Vive taking a road trip across the USA; experience it first in San Diego!

Are you going to Comic-Con? If you are, you are one lucky person. Those tickets are hard to come by and they sure aren’t cheap. Us San Diego natives know that Comic Con is about much more than what happens inside the convention center, though. There’s a lot of fun events going on around it, and many of them are completely free! Now we are finding out HTC is coming to the party too.
If you happen to be around Southern California in the next few days, you may want to stop by and give the HTC Vive a look. The Taiwanese manufacturer is taking it upon itself to put this awesome VR headset in a bus (literally) and giving it a tour all across the United States. San Diego, CA happens to be the first city the HTC Vive will visit. HTC is coinciding with Comic-Con, so it will likely become another one of the attractions around the convention’s vicinity.

We can’t stress how important it is for you to test something like the HTC Vive out. VR is going to change the game, and our frustration is that there’s no way for us to effectively convey how amazing this new technology is! You really have to experience it for yourself. You can take a look at our reactions, though. It is as much as we can do for now, so we urge you to come to the HTC bus and test the product if you can – it’s the only way you will truly understand the concept.
It’s also worth noting the HTC Valve is not your average VR headset. This device takes the VR experience to the next level, thanks to a couple laser sensors you can place in the room. The system would then recobnize your location and displacement within the room, and create a digital reality to assimilate it. What does all this tech talk mean? You can walk around things, as opposed to just being able to look up/down and to the sides.
If you are not excited about this yet, we can assure you will be once you put this thing on. Just go do it! The Vive will be here in San Diego for July 9-12. You can visit the bus 10 AM-8 PM, except for Sunday, when the bus will be closing down at 6 PM. The bus is said to be located at 530 Island Ave, in downtown. Try not to miss it if you are in the area! I know I won’t. By the way, say hi if you see me (bearded guy with long hair) and don’t forget to follow the brand new HTC Vive official Twitter account!
New York is getting a crowdfunded, sunlit underground park
New York City has its share of famous parks, but they don’t pepper the landscape like they do in other big cities. The non-profit group Lowline may have a technical solution to that lack of greenery, however. It just crowdfunded preliminary work on an underground Manhattan park whose solar technology will fill an abandoned trolley station with natural, plant-sustaining light. The key is a collector that concentrates light above the sidewalk, funnels it through irrigation-like tubes and distributes it through domes. Provided the test run (Lowline Lab) works out, New Yorkers will have a 1-acre safe haven from urban chaos just underneath the Lower East Side — it might even stay green all year round.
There’s no firm date for when the park will be available. Its fate hinges on whether or not the city decides that the Lowline Lab’s trial (from September 2015 to February 2016) is a success. Thanklfully, ou won’t have to twiddle your thumbs waiting for the full-fledged venue to open. Lowline plans to open the Lab to the public on weekends, and it’ll be free of charge. Neither the test nor the completed project will be as grand as strolling through Central Park, but they’ll probably be worth a visit for the novelty alone.

Google Messenger update brings animated stickers and quick location sharing
Google updated its Messenger app today to version 1.4 and brought new minor improvements along the way. You will now have the ability to send fun little animated stickers and share your location in a quicker and easier way.
The new animated stickers are quite similar to that ones found in Facebook’s Messenger app and come in different collections, such as “The Lovable Zoo”. They are definitely a fun addition to the app, and new collections can be downloaded as add-ons packages. You can find the stickers library under the attachment button.
Your location can also be shared as an attachment, and will send both an image of the map and a Google Maps link that will open the location in the Maps app.

Ubisoft announces the all new Rayman Adventures platformer for smartphones and tablets
Ubisoft has revealed its new platformer for smartphones and tablets called “Rayman Adventures”. The game is similar to Rayman Legends and is set in enchanted forests, medieval castles and other mystical worlds. Your goal is to venture around those different worlds, defeat enemies and reclaim “sacred eggs” that sustain the life of a sacred tree.
Along the way, Rayman is accompanied by his Viking companion, Barbara. The game’s announcement trailer reveals superb visuals and effects similar to the ones found in the previous Rayman Origins and Rayman legends. The new platformer is an autorunner just like Rayman Jungle Run and Rayman Fiesta Run.

Rayman Adventures will most certainly be available on iOS and Android, and the actual release date is to be announced. Ubisoft did not announce if the game will come free or not, however more information will soon be available as the game is released.

Comcast ‘Co-Pilot’ is tech support screen sharing for your DVR

Comcast’s X1 DVR platform is pretty powerful, but with more moving parts comes the chance for more things to go wrong. As PC tech support users might know, sometimes the easiest way to describe a problem isn’t to speak at all, but to give someone remote access to your computer so they can see what’s what. Comcast is trying that with “Co-Pilot” which allows customer service reps to take control and walk you through any fixes. You shouldn’t have to worry about anything nefarious going down, though: the techs can only access your DVR after being given a special code. Currently Co-Pilot is in a limited trial phase but Comcast plans to go wide with it later this year. Not too shabby for one of the most-hated companies in America, eh?

Amazon’s Echo speaker can control your Wink-powered smart home
If you’ve filled up your home with Wink-based lighting and similar smart appliances, you’re about to get an easy (and official) way to manage it all with your voice. As of now, you can tell Amazon’s Echo speaker to control Wink devices — so long as they’re paired, you only have to ask Alexa to “turn on the light” or “turn off the fan.” Range limits will likely prevent you from using Echo’s new trick around the whole house (you won’t be putting on backyard light shows, for example), but this could still save you some hassles when you just want to relax after a hard day.

Hands-On With Apple’s ‘News’ App Introduced in iOS 9 Beta 3
Apple released the third beta of iOS 9 to developers this morning, bringing some significant changes to the operating system, including the new Apple News app.
First introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, “News” provides curated lists of personalized news content for iOS users, offering up content from popular websites and newspapers and displaying it in an iOS-friendly layout. We went hands-on with News to give our readers a detailed walkthrough of the app and the different features that it offers.
News is built around topics and channels that are selected by each individual user, which are then used to populate an individualized “For You” tab that displays a list of stories each day. There’s a Favorites section that display the sites you’ve added to a favorites list for quick browsing, a search feature for finding new content, and an Explore tab for casual browsing. Explore suggests topics or channels you might be interested based on what you’ve previously read.
If you come across a favorite story, you can add it to the “Saved” section in News, and you’re able to share stories with friends by using the Share Sheet when reading content. In Safari, there’s also a feature that will let you add any RSS feed to News by visiting a site and choosing “Add to News.”
News includes more than a million topics, and as you read more stories, the app will get better at offering content that might interest you. Media content like photos and videos can be displayed full screen and there are features like built-in audio and photo galleries.
News is only available in iOS 9 beta 3, which is limited to registered developers. Public beta testers will likely get access to News in the near future when the first public beta test is released, and the general public will be able to access the app when iOS 9 launches in the fall.
Your pals can broadcast during your Meerkat streams, if you let them
To let viewers feel like they’re part of the action, Meerkat announced a new feature that lets you ask for some crowd participation. The video-streaming app now has a Cameo tool that’ll allow broadcasters to hand the reins over to viewers for up to a minute. “It’s a simple yet powerful way to create a deeper human connection with people - going from ‘broadcasting to’ towards ‘broadcasting with,’” the company said in a blog post. The ability to highjack streams popped up back in March and was quickly nixed. Now, it’s an actual feature, which makes me wonder if someone flipped the switch a little early.
To invite someone to join, you can visit a user’s profile or comment with “Cameo @username.” Once accepted, the invitee takes over for up to 60 seconds. When the Cameo time is up, or when you’ve had enough and end it manually, the stream goes back to you. What’s more, you can also link your Facebook profile to be notified when friends and Pages you follow are streaming. There’s also easy access to your library of videos too, so that you can decide what’s public and what’s not right after a broadcast.

Best calendar apps [2015]
For me, digital calendars are a go-to for scheduling, planning, and inviting others to events. Whether it be a lunch, business meeting, or simply a barbecue, a digital calendar can be handy. They’re convenient and go anywhere you are.
If you haven’t made the jump yet, and want to take one for a spin, we’ve put together a list of our favorites. Check it out and see if any of these calendar apps work for you and improve your productivity.
Google Calendar
Google Calendar is one of the best calendar apps for Android, particularly because it is integrated with Android. It’s easy to create events, invite friends and family to events, and Google Calendar helps you stay on top of these dates by sending convenient notifications. Google Calendar also integrates with other services such as Exchange, allowing you to import everything in one place.
Microsoft Outlook
Outlook has a lot of features packed into it, including email, contacts, access to native and cloud files, and finally, an excellent calendar. While it’s a hub for all your day-to-day email and file transferring, it actually handles the calendar really well. Since it is built into your email, you can easily create and schedule events and share them with friends or coworkers. Outlook will also send you a notification to your device, reminding you of upcoming events. Honestly, it’s really the best way how to handle calendars–you never have to leave your email, fumbling around menus looking for your calendar app and events.
aCalendar
aCalendar is another intuitive calendar app, focusing on accessibility and offering plenty of helpful features. aCalendar features smooth navigation and smooth transitions for different calendar views. It automatically adds birthdays to itself by pulling information from your contacts, it has a few handy built-in widgets, and you can share events through QR codes and NFC. It’s free and ad-free, but if you want all aCalendar has to offer, you’ll need to complete an in-app purchase.
New Calendar
New Calendar has a lot of your basic calendar features–scheduling events, sharing events, inviting friends, and more. However, where New Calendar really shines is with its Google Calendar integration and a bevy of widgets. If you need a calendar widget on your screen, New Calendar offers clean and card-like looking calendar widgets. Voice reminders worked into this app which can notify you of an event with a voice.
Today Calendar
Today Calendar implements many of the features you’d find in a stock calendar app, but builds them from the ground up, focusing on speed, performance, and better productivity. On the unique side of the spectrum, Today Calendar supports themes, a night mode, seven different calendar views, and much more. Where Today Calendar really shines is in its design. It has a colorful Material Design interface paired with fluid animations.
Sunrise Calendar
Sunrise Calendar is an intuitive app that connects with all of your favorite services–Google Calendar, Exchange, and iCloud. It also works flawlessly with things like Facebook, Todoist, Evernote, Foursquare, making sure your calendar is always up to date. Sunrise aims to be a one-stop-shop for all of your calendar needs, never having to worry missing a scheduled event in some other app. It also syncs between your computer, tablet, and Android phone, so it’s always up to date and can be accessed from anywhere. Aside from all of the convenient features, it’s also beautifully designed and delivers a gorgeous user interface.
Business Calendar 2
Business Calendar comes with all of your standard calendar features–integration with Google Calendar and Exchange, four different views for day, week, month, and year, a seamless interface, and much more. What makes Business Calendar unique is the many unique features it comes with, such as integration with Google Tasks, design customization options, heat maps, an integrated event planner and task manager, improved event reminders, and much more. Keep in mind that some of these features you’ll only have access to with the Pro version, which can be unlocked through an in-app purchase.
DigiCal Calendar
DigiCal Calendar offers a clean and crisp interface and can connect with any of your favorite calendar services. This particular calendar has helpful integration with Google Now and integration with weather forecasts. It helps you keep an eye on current traffic, any delays, and tells you when you need to leave to get to your appointment on time. Six gorgeous lock-screen widgets are included with this package, and they’re getting ready to roll out Material Design shortly. Devices running as low as Android 2.2 can download this calendar, but keep in mind that some of the features DigiCal Calendar has won’t work on a version that low.
Conclusion
There are a lot of varying calendar apps out there in the Play Store, and they all do different things. Some focus on being easy-to-use by offering a clean and crisp Material Design, while others focus on organization, adding a package of features to help you stay on top of meetings.
