LG G4 coming April 28th, official invites begin rolling out

With the Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 official and on their way to the market in the near future, many folks are already turning their attention to what’s next — the LG G4. Up until now, LG hadn’t officially cemented a date for its big unveil, but now invites are going out for a special event on April 28th in New York, London, Paris, and on April 29th in Seoul, Singapore, and Istanbul.
The invite shows off what appears to be a notebook and bears the tagline: See the Great. Feel the Great.
The invite shows off what appears to be a notebook and bears the tagline “See the Great. Feel the Great”, with a “G” in the same font as LG’s G series logo. So what’s the tagline hinting at? It seems pretty likely they are planning some kind of visual change. One might think that the notebook might be hinting at some kind of faux leather, though it’s just as possible it could symbolize the company opening up a “new chapter”, whether that’s a metallic design, or the rumor of a more premium G4 “Note” device. Honestly, it could mean just about anything.
Turning to the rumor mill, while some rumors suggest LG will go with a premium metallic build, at least one rumor suggests LG will stick with plastic, saving metal for its rumored LG “G4 Note”. It’s still unclear if the “more upscale” flagship will debut next month alongside the G4, though LG has hinted that such a device is really in the works. Another possibility is that LG’s tagline could be referencing a switch to a curved design (as rumored by Korea Times), which would certainly make it feel and look differently than the G4’s predecessor.
Regardless of whatever LG brings to the table, we’ll be here to bring you all the latest news as it happens next month. What would you like to see from LG? Excited about the possibility of an even higher-end LG handset, possibly as direct competitor to the Galaxy Note series?
Invites for LG events hit inboxes, LG G4 should be taking center stage
The previous rumors that LG would be pushing their next flagship device announcement back to April seem to be pretty spot on now that we have invites for just such an event. It was reported that LG would knock things back a little bit was to let them have their own limelight and not be […]

T-Mobile’s next-gen network map is the first crowdsourced customer-verified network coverage map
Static coverage maps are so 20th century. T-Mobile is moving from that traditional model of static coverage map that can often times depict where coverage “should” be, but in many cases isn’t. Now the Magenta Un-Carrier has launched a new coverage map that is called “Verified Coverage.” This is the first network carrier coverage map […]

Ares 11 is a 2-in-1 tablet for just $197, features quad-core Intel CPU and Lollipop

E Fun isn’t exactly a top-tier Android OEM, but their tablets are quickly becoming pretty commonplace at big box retailers (such as Walmart) and through various online shopping sites, offering up reasonably spec’d devices at pretty aggressive pricing. The OEM, best known for its Nextbook line, is now upping its game a little by introducing its first 2-in-1 Android tablet.
Convertible tablets that transform into laptops are nothing new in the Android world, with Asus being one of the best-known manufacturers of such hybrid devices. That said, most of these devices aren’t exactly ultra-affordable. The Nextbook Ares 11 aims to deliver a low-cost convertible experience that still has at least some oomph under the hood.
The Ares 11 is powered by an Intel Atom Z3735G Bay Trail processor with 1GB RAM. Other specs include 64GB storage, an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 resolution IPS display, a microSD, a mini HDMI port, a microUSB port, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, 2MP front and rear cams, and a detachable keyboard dock with two full USB ports. Even better, it comes preloaded with Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Now we’ll be honest, the specs here won’t blow anyone away, but it should still be enough for those looking for a basic tablet for browsing the web, some light gaming, word processing and checking social networks. The biggest bottlenecks are going to be the piddly amount of RAM and the relatively low-resolution display.
If you’re shaking your head at the specs, you at least might some redemption in the price tag, which is just $197 with the detachable keyboard included. For those that are looking for basically a modern netbook or a Chromebook alternative that can run any and all Android apps — the Netbook Ares 11 might be worth a look.
What do you think, worth considering or are folks better off purchasing a Chromebook or a more expensive Android (or even Windows) tablet convertible?
LG event scheduled for April 28, most likely G4 unveiling
LG has sent out a “save the date” email to press tonight for what looks to be the unveiling of its next flagship, the LG G4, on April 28.
Whatever LG has up its sleeve for the G4 unveiling, it’s set to take place around the world with events on April 28 in New York, London, and Paris, as well as Seoul, Singapore, and Istanbul on April 29.
Improved image quality teased for upcoming 6tag 4.1 update
Rudy Huyn, the developer behind a number of popular third-party Windows Phone apps, took to Twitter tonight to tease some image quality improvements coming to 6tag 4.1.
The popular Instagram client will bring some improvements in image quality over the current 6tag 4.0.6, and even the official Instagram beta app.
[APK Download] Gmail update brings a unified inbox and better searching
Google has updated their Gmail application, bringing a handful of useful new features on board. The biggest new improvement to the Gmail experience is the inclusion of a unified inbox, so now all of your Gmail and emails accounts in the Gmail application can be viewed without having to switch back and forth between different email addresses. Other email apps have had this feature for a while, so it’s great that Google finally baked it in.
There a handful of other new features, too, including threaded conversation views and better searching of your inboxes. The search bar will now auto-complete terms just like the desktop web client of Gmail, which is a handy tool. Google also tweaked the interface a bit, making animations more responsive, upping the limit to preview email attachments, and one-click saving to Google Drive.
Hit the link below for the download if you haven’t already gotten it from the Play Store.

LG makes April 28th press event day, will probably be the LG G4
LG has announced they’ll be holding a press event on April 28th, and unless they’re planning on shocking us with something that’s flown completely under the radar, we’ll probably see the G4 that day.
LG is holding events in New York, London, Paris, Seoul, Istanbul, and Singapore, so they’d be going through a lot of unnecessary trouble to announce something that wasn’t a major phone for 2015. The press event shows what looks like leather stitching on what might be a book or notepad, so the G4 Note may make an appearance, but rest assured that whatever is shown off, it’s going to be big.
We’ll keep you updated as we get closer to the end of April.

The (damn cute) winners of 11th Annual Engadget Awards: People’s Choice
The votes for the 11th Annual Engadget People’s Choice Awards have been tallied and the winners are in. As is always the case, there were some very polarizing products on the ballot and many of the honorees won by a very small margin. But the real winners this year were the cute and adoptable puppies at the San Francisco Animal Care and Control (SFACC) shelter. The only thing we love here at Engadget more than true innovation is man’s best friend, so we teamed up with the SFACC for a special awards ceremony.
Apple’s Tim Cook calls state discrimination laws ‘dangerous’
A number of tech executives have decried state laws that promote discrimination against the LGBT community by allowing companies to refuse service on religious grounds, but Apple CEO Tim Cook is taking his opposition to the next level. The executive has written an editorial for the Washington Post that says it’s “dangerous” to enact these laws, which include Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act and Arkansas’ tentative HB1228.
Jay Z’s first order of business: Cut Tidal subscription fees in half
If the ability to stream Taylor Swift’s music has you eyeing Tidal, Jay Z & Co. just sweetened the deal. Ahead of a relaunch event this evening, the streaming service cut it’s monthly rate in half. That’s right, instead of shelling out $20 for spinning the lossless catalog, you’ll now need to commit $10 per month.
Former feds in Silk Road case stand accused of stealing bitcoins
While Ross Ulbricht was found guilty for creating and running the online black market known as Silk Road, it seems that a couple of Federal agents assigned to the case weren’t so innocent either. The US Justice Department has just charged two former Federal agents involved in the investigation for allegedly committing wire fraud and diverting bitcoins into their own personal accounts.
Hillary Clinton confirms she wiped her email server
Members of the US House of Representatives hoping to get a look at Hillary Clinton’s personal email server just got a big disappointment. Clinton’s attorney has confirmed to a House committee on Benghazi that, after handing over work-related email to the State Department, the politician both “chose not to keep” personal messages and set a 60-day limit on what the server retains. In short, she effectively wiped it clean.
Auto-complete blunder leaks passport details of world leaders
Australia has proved that it can hold its own against Hillary Clinton any day when it comes to email gaffes. The nation’s immigration department accidentally disclosed the passport numbers and other personal info of every world leader attending last year’s G20 summit, then compounded the problem by hushing it up. Affected leaders include US president Barack Obama, Russia’s Vladimir Putin and British prime minister David Cameron.
Game Boy camera gun prints when you shoot
If you had a spare Game Boy Camera and the printer to match, what would you do with them? If you’re media artist Dmitry Morozov, you’d make a one-of-a-kind firearm. His GBG-8 gun uses Nintendo’s photographic peripherals and an Arduino board to shoot photos (almost literally) and print them on the spot – effectively, it’s a low-resolution Polaroid cam with a trigger.
