Xiaomi could launch the Mi Pad 2 tablet on March 31
Xiaomi is celebrating its fifth year anniversary on the 31st of March. Leaks have suggested that the company expects to unveil some new smartphones and other devices as part of its celebrations.
A new revelation now claims that Xiaomi might even unveil the second gen Mi Pad tablet, dubbed the Mi Pad 2. A leak back in December last year gave us our very first look of the Mi Pad 2, with a significantly different design while maintaining the same 7.9 inch display.
The tablet is also expected to be packing a 1.8 GHz Intel processor (in favor of the NVIDIA chip from the predecessor), 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and possibly Android 5.0 Lollipop with a new iteration of MIUI.
Going by all the hints dropped by the company, it seems like we’ll see the company’s next gen tablet arrive on Tuesday. What do you expect from the latest Xiaomi tablet?

T-Mobile offers 1 year of free Netflix with Galaxy S6, S6 Edge
Looking to pick up a Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge but don’t yet know which wireless provider to choose? Perhaps T-Mobile’s latest promotion might be enough to convince you to choose it.
According to T-Mobile, its version of the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge will come with one year of Netflix free of charge. Worth roughly $100, it’s a limited time deal that credits users with twelve months of the 2 Stream service.
It’s not clear whether this is necessarily exclusive to T-Mobile; looking at the fine print we see language that indicates Samsung may be offering the Netflix. If that’s actually the case then it’s possible that other carriers might soon announce a similar deal.
Samsung is no stranger to throwing together bundles of apps and services with its products. We would be surprised if there weren’t other freebies given out with its 2015 flagship.

We have your first look at Tivo’s massive, amazing Android update
The folks at Tivo are making software a priority, which is great for everyone.
As a longtime Tivo user, the experience had with the Android app to date has been just shy of absolutely miserable. The first release was little more than an iOS port that didn’t scale correctly when using larger screens or devices with higher than what was considered normal resolutions at the time, and when the app did finally improve enough that it was usable on all devices the UI was outdated and sluggish. It didn’t matter what device you used the Tivo app on, scrolling through the Guide with a finger flick was inviting pain.
That was then. This is now. This is the new Tivo for Android.
Google will now let any app use its malware-blocking tools

If you’ve ever wandered onto a sketchy website and gotten a big red notice from Google, that’s all thanks to Chrome’s malware-blocking technology that aims to protect you from sites with potentially harmful materials. In order to expand its safety precautions, Google has just announced the Safe Browsing API, which lets developers incorporate the safeguarding techniques into applications. The API is meant for applications that use built-in web browsers that could potentially link to some unwanted downloads.

With the safe browsing API, developers will be able to warn users before they click on links that may lead to malware-infected pages and also prevent users from posting links to known phishing pages from a website. The API also allows for automatic checking through Google’s suspected phishing and malware software pages for quicker results.
Google explains:
In addition to our constantly-updated malware and phishing data, our unwanted software data is now publicly available for developers to integrate into their own security measures. For example, any app that wants to save its users from winding up on sites that lead to deceptive software could use our API to do precisely that.
It might be awhile before we see apps support this feature, but the precautions are now available for anyone who’d like to offer its users some more protection. If you’re a developer that would like to learn more about the new API, head here for more information.
‘Becoming Steve Jobs’: Rare Insights into Steve Jobs’ Evolution and Personality
After an initial teaser post from John Gruber earlier this month and several leaks and excerpts, the new Steve Jobs biography Becoming Steve Jobs debuted yesterday, and we’ve had a chance to read through the book that offers a new look into the life of the Apple co-founder. While Walter Isaacson’s best-selling 2011 biography of Jobs was undertaken with Jobs’ authorization and participation, many close to him felt it didn’t offer an accurate reflection of his personality.
In the wake of that book’s debut, former Fortune and Wall Street Journal reporter Brent Schlender, who interviewed Jobs numerous times over the final 25 years of Jobs’ life, teamed up with former Fortune colleague and current Fast Company executive editor Rick Tetzeli for an alternative take on Jobs’ life. Notably, Schlender and Tetzeli were eventually able to obtain the cooperation of a number of key figures, including Tim Cook, Eddy Cue, Jony Ive, and Laurene Powell Jobs, to share their perspectives on Jobs.
The new book takes a mostly linear approach to telling the story of Jobs’ life, beginning with Apple’s early days. Much of that early content has been shared in previously published books and articles, but the story becomes more interesting once it reaches 1986, the year Schlender and Jobs first met for an interview when Jobs was in the early stages of building NeXT after having been ousted from Apple the year before.
Schlender’s many interviews and discussions with Jobs over the years give him a fairly rare perspective, and Schlender uses that perspective to argue the Jobs of his later years was a very different and more mature person than the perception developed in his brash younger years.
I can’t think of a businessman who grew and changed and matured more than Steve. Personal change is, of course, incremental. As all “grown-ups” come to understand, we wrestle with and learn how to manage our gifts and flaws over a lifetime. It’s an endless growth process. And yet it’s not as if we become wholly different people. Steve is a great object lesson in someone who masterfully improved his ability to make better use of his strengths and to effectively mitigate those aspects of his personality that got in the way of those strengths. His negative qualities didn’t go away, nor were they replaced by new good traits. But he learned how to manage himself, his own personal miasma of talents and rough edges. Most of them, anyway.
Tim Cook is one of the most high-profile figures to be interviewed for the book, and beyond the already revealed tidbit about Cook having offered Jobs a portion of his liver, Cook addressed the ways in which he saw Jobs change even since 1998 when Cook joined Apple. Read more
Gold Apple Watch Buyers to Get Special Purchasing Experience With 30 Minute Appointments
As of April 10, Apple will begin scheduling appointments in its retail stores for customers who are interested in trying on the Apple Watch before deciding to pre-order or make a purchase. We’ve known that most try-on appointments will be scheduled in 15-minute intervals to allow Apple employees to get to as many customers as possible, but it seems that customers who are interested in purchasing the Gold Apple Watch Edition will get some extra time with the device.
According to the International Business Times, two Apple Stores in Manhattan have confirmed that customers looking to spend upwards of $10,000 on an Apple Watch Edition will get 30 minute appointments with Apple employees instead of 15 minute appointments.

Given the high price of the Apple Watch Edition, it’s no surprise that employees plan to dedicate more time to those who plan to spend a lot of money, as it’s a bigger purchasing decision. In fact, the purchasing experience for a Gold Apple Watch may be quite a bit different from the experience purchasing a standard Apple Watch or an Apple Watch Sport, as Apple is said to have a dedicated group of employees that have undergone special training serving customers who are buying the Apple Watch Edition.
Apple employees, including those who will work with customers interested in the Gold Apple Watch, are being trained to offer fashion and styling advice to customers. 9to5Mac shared some details on this training yesterday, suggesting employees will use each customer’s fashion sense to make Apple Watch recommendations. Apple employees are being given example customers to train with, to help them develop the skills to make suggestions to customers.

Apple retail stores will be transformed overnight ahead of April 10, adding Apple Watch try-on stations that consist of glass-covered display tables that have the Apple Watch underneath. The Apple Watch Edition will only be available at select Apple Stores, and in limited quantities. Stores where the high-end watch will be sold are being outfitted with safes, where the devices will be kept at night to protect them from theft.
Apple wants the Apple Watch Edition buying experience to mirror other luxury shopping experiences, and in addition to selling the device in Apple retail locations through specially trained employees, Apple is also assembling pop up shops around the world in locations like the Wonder Room in Selfridges, a special section of the store that houses other high-end jewelry and watches. Other pop up shop locations include the Galeries Lafayette in Paris, and the Isetan Department Store in Tokyo.
Apple Watch pre-orders and try-on appointments begin on April 10, with the official launch coming later in the month, on April 24.
JXE Streams: ‘Hotline Miami 2’ creators discuss its neon violence
Hotline Miami makes you feel things that you don’t want to feel. It shows you a veritable smorgasbord of ugly — from its jagged artwork to its stomach churning cartoon violence — and somehow makes you love it. Which is precisely the point. Dennis Wedin and Jonatan Söderström, the duo comprising Hotline Miami studio Dennaton Games, returned to their signature world of psychosis, brutality, and ’80s flash this March with Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number. The sequel puts even more emphasis on story and character, which makes its ugliness even more affecting. We’ll discuss that and more with the studio during today’s two-hour stream of the game.
Starting at 3PM, you can catch our stream with Dennaton Games right here in this post, on the Engadget.com/gaming landing page, or on Twitch.tv/Joystiq. If you’re a new fan of the stream, make sure to follow us on Twitch so you know when we’ll go live!

Here’s how to get Android 5.1 on your AT&T Nexus 6
I recently wrote a post on my AT&T Nexus 6 getting Android Lollipop 5.1. There was some confusion on my part on how to exactly get it right, but after experimenting and having others users confirm this method I can now give clear instructions on how to get the latest update, and let me tell you, the update is worth getting if you are tired of your phone rebooting, having poor battery life, or experiencing other random bugs.
1. Backup your phone – go to “settings” and then go to “backup & reset.” This will allow you to reset your phone to the exact way it was before the restore. Select an account to backup your phone, and then click to back it up.
2. Take out your Sim card. You can do this with a Sim ejector tool or something small like a bent paperclip. if you leave your Sim card in you will not be prompted to get the update. You MUST remove it.
3. Restore your phone – go to “settings” and then go to “backup & reset” and hit “factory reset data.”
4. When you are restoring your phone, you can restore from the latest backup. Once you do these steps you will be prompted to update your phone to Android 5.1. This update is not due out until June, so if you are tired of the bugs, I highly suggest you get this update.
