The Fitbit mobile app now lets you sync multiple trackers to your account

File this one under first-world problems but if you are like us and own multiple Fitbit trackers (collect them all!) you no longer have to decide which to wear. In a backend update, Fitbit has thrown the switch to let users synchronize multiple Fitbit Trackers to their account through the mobile app.

Previously, if you owned the more rugged and full-featured Surge and the leaner Charge HR, you would have to pair only one to your account. The other device would essentially be kicked out from tracking until you repaired it.

Like the Highlander, there could only be one. Needless to say, it is rather cumbersome to switch trackers on the fly with this method.

Starting today, you can now keep multiple trackers paired to your account, and they all will continue to sync. Wear your Surge on a hike, take the Charge HR to work, use the One when you have to dress up – the choice is yours.

For Android and iOS, the app uses programming to determine which is the active tracker. However, on Windows Phone, users can manually set which device to make primary.

This feature was initially announced along with the new Fitbit Surge Bike-Tracking feature earlier this week. However, the multiple-tracker support was just enabled starting today.

Since this is a backend update, you do not need to update your mobile software.

Beatport’s new app will drop the ultimate bass on your iPhone and iPad

Beatport will dock at the Apple harbour by launching a new app for those who enjoy dance music. The online music resource recently launched a new free streaming service, which these new apps will compliment. It plans to become the number one destination for not only music fans, but also DJs looking to stock up on tracks.

As Beatport is owned by SFX Entertainment, the app will sport a calendar of EDM events with integrated ticket purchasing functionality. Beatport Live provide DJs with a live streaming service and everyone else can enjoy the free unlimited streaming. It’ll be an interesting move for the company who has failed to embrace the app development breakthrough mobile platforms have brought to developers

The Android app is now available, so we imagine it won’t be long for the App Store listing to pull through.

iPhone or iPad freezing when you delete apps? Here’s the work-around!

You touch and hold an icon to put your iPhone or iPad into jiggly mode, tap the X button to delete an app, and then… nothing.

Literally nothing. Everything just freezes up and seems to hang for a while. Eventually the confirm delete dialog box pops up, but it takes way longer than it should. Instead of letting you quickly delete an app and get on with using your device, it just feels like everything is locked up and you’re stuck. If you’re experiencing this problem on iOS 8 here’s the good news — there is a workaround, and we’re tacking it on this week’s iOS Help.

Every Thursday our Ally Kazmucha brings you iOS Help — a column where you can get your iPhone and iPad questions answered and problems solved!

Ever since I’ve been using iOS 8, my iPhone freezes up when I try to delete an app. I can’t do anything when this happens other than wait an excruciatingly long time for the delete option to finally pop up. Why is this happening and how do I fix it?

Not everyone seems to experience this issue but those that do seem to typically have the following things in common:
Those who experience hanging typically have the following things in common:

  • Lots of apps installed on your iPhone or iPad (200+)
  • Lots of apps running in the background
  • iOS 8.0 or higher

Luckily, there is a way to stop the freezing issue from happening, at least until Apple issues a permanent fix.

How to stop your iPhone or iPad from freezing when deleting apps

This issue seems to result from a way iOS handles memory. Closing all open apps from the multitasking section of iOS before trying to delete an app solves the problem. If you don’t know how to do that, just follow these steps:

  1. Double tap your Home button on your iPhone or iPad to bring up multitasking.
  2. Swipe all open apps up in order to close them.
  3. You can touch and throw away up to three apps at once to save time

Once all the apps have been closed, try deleting an app again. The freezing should be gone.

Special thanks to Ratkat on Twitter for pointing out this workaround!

ESPN Hub gets a major makeover to become ESPN App on Windows Phone 8.1

Although official sports apps tend to share the same status as banking apps on Windows Phone – that is, ignored – ESPN is not one of them. This morning version 1.0 of the ESPN App, formerly known as the ESPN Hub, went live in the Store.

The new ESPN App looks to have been completely re-written and ready for Windows Phone 8.1. We last wrote about ESPN Hub back in December, 2013 so this makeover has been a long time in the making.
