Pebble Time crosses $20 million in Kickstarter funding with just under 24 hours to go

There’s no doubt that the Pebble Time‘s Kickstarter campaign has been a massive success — and now the device has crossed the $20 million funding mark with just under 24 hours left to go.

Pebble Time already crossed the threshold and became the most funded campaign in Kickstarter history a week after its launch, and followed that milestone up with the announcement of a luxury steel version of the upcoming smartwatch.

The Pebble Time adds to the original Pebble smartwatch with a color display, a “smartstrap” that can connect to third-party devices, and an updated design.

If you’ve been on the fence until now, you still have just under 24 hours to head over to Kickstarter via the source link below and contribute. And if you decide to contribute now, you’ll also score either version at a slight discount over the retail price. The standard Pebble Time goes for $179 ($199 retail), while Pebble Time Steel will run you $250 ($299 retail).

Could this be our first look at the LG G4?

LG G4 leak

Now that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 have both been announced and reviewed, it’s time for the tech world to move onto the next big thing. LG’s G4 handset is expected to be announced within the next few months, and according to a few leaked images from XDA, we may have just gotten our first look at the unreleased handset.

The back of the device is shown off in the first image, sporting LG’s iconic rear-mounted power button and volume keys. The buttons and camera module don’t really differ in aesthetics from previous LG handsets, although they look to be a solid black color this time around. The chassis of the device looks like it sports a similar brushed aluminum texture to what we saw on the LG G3, though judging from the photos, it’s difficult to tell whether the device has a plastic or aluminum casing. If you take a closer look in the first image, it seems as though LG has either added a TV antenna (likely for the Korean market) or a stylus. We’ve heard rumors of LG filing patents for a stylus-like writing utensil, and that the company may potentially launch a device called the G4 Note towards the later half of the year. For now, this is just speculation, so we’ll need to wait some time before we make any assumptions.

Moving on to the front three images, we get a pretty good look at the device’s software. For starters, the purported G4 software info page says the device is running Android 5.0.2 with build number LRX22G. There’s also a pretty clear look at the Settings screen, showing off a more subdued color palette throughout the menus. The final image shows off the device’s home screen, which doesn’t look too different from the software we got on the G3. LG looks to have made a few tweaks this time around, but it’s certainly not a completely revamped UI that was alluded to by the company’s CEO a few weeks ago.

For now, we need to remember that these are just rumored images, and nothing is official until we get word from LG. What are your thoughts on the images? If these turn out to be real, would you be okay with the design changes LG has made this time around?

Police stations are becoming common Craigslist meetup locations

A good rule of thumb when meeting strangers off of Craigslist is to meet in public places. But you know what’s safer than that when your gut’s telling you to be extra careful? Meeting in police station lobbies. The Seattle Police Department is encouraging people to use its station lobbies as meetup, pickup or drop off points for Craigslist deals. Clean, legal ones only, of course. It’s not the first state to offer its law enforcement HQs as a safe place to meet, though: this is a growing trend across the US started by the Chicago police. Aside from Seattle, Beaufort, Boca Raton, Columbia, South Carolina, Missouri and Virginia Beach have also followed Chicago’s lead. Police stations, by the way, are open 24/7. So you can snap up even good deals posted at night without having to worry about getting kidnapped, raped or murdered.

LG G4 images leak out; show a familiar face

A user over on the XDA forums who is a T-Mobile employee, got his hands on an LG G4 to apparently test the device. Fortunately for us, he wanted to post some images and they definitely show a familiar face.

The leaked images show a shape that fits with what is expected of the LG G4. It is essentially a beefed up and slightly refined LG G3; similar to the likes of the M8 to the M9. The buttons are still on the rear of the device, but the power button has gotten a new shape which is more oval like. The speaker remains in the same spot as its predecessor.

One thing you may notice that is different about the design is that it features what look to be a stylus on the top of the device. It has been rumored that will be only for the ‘G4 Note’, but if LG wants to include a stylus to compete with the Note series, it might come on the regular G4 instead.

On top of it all, the device is running Android 5.0.2 and seems to take cues from Material Design. All of the LG icons seem flatter and the color scheme fits with the identity more. It also ships with the beloved Lollipop soft keys. The device’s display seems to be very crisp and hopefully they upgrade to AMOLED instead of using the IPS LCD display found on the LG G3.

Seeing the LG G4 in the hands of a T-Mobile employee for testing is a good sign that we could see the debut of LG’s next device this April. It has been rumored that they are targeting late April, but they are just rumors so far. If this is the LG G4, will you be picking up this device? Let us know!

No Apple Watch mixing-and-matching come April 10 — collections are it

The Apple Online Store previews all of the Apple Watch case and band combinations, grouped into collections.

Despite that, some have hoped, come pre-order time, they’d still be able to to mix-and-match cases and bands to get any combination they liked, without having to buy any additional bands. Sadly not. As of right now, you will only be able to order one of the Apple Watches in the case and band pairs as presented in the collections, and that doesn’t seem likely to change.

So, if you want a sliver aluminum case and a black band, you’ll have to buy the black band separately and swap it in afterwards. Likewise if you want a space gray aluminum case and a colored band, a space black stainless steal case and a leather loop, or any combination not explicitly included in a collection, you’ll have to get the watch and an additional band.

If you go to the Apple Watch Online Store, the option you have in preview now will be the options you have for pre-order on April 10 will be the options you have for purchase on April 24.

So, set your purchasing expectations accordingly, and if you need any extra help deciding what you should get, check out our complete Apple Watch Buyers Guide.
