Google Nexus 6 makes its way to six new countries

nexus 6 first impressions (16 of 21)

As is the case with the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 before it, the Nexus 6 was a hot commodity upon announcement and, therefore, subject to supply constraints for months after release. Now that stock has stabilized a bit, getting a Nexus 6 is no longer a difficult affair, and so it seems Google is expanding the device’s reach to new markets.

Starting today, you’ll be able to purchase the Nexus 6 through the Google Store in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Norway, and Portugal. This is in addition to the currently available markets of Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Olio Model One smartwatch is premium and mostly round, works with both Android and iOS

olio-model-one-01

If you think there are too many smartwatches on the market already, just wait until this time next year. The Olio Model One is another newcomer, but it’s not Android Wear. However, just like the Pebble and Pebble Time, it’s compatible with both iOS (8.0+) and Android (4.3+).

Let’s start with the quality and design. It sports a 316L stainless steel case that’s brushed with hand-polished accents. It has a Guilloché textured high-impact Ion-Exchange glass crystal and caseback. The case is 47 mm and weighs 81 grams with the genuine leather band or 161 grams with the steel link bracelet. It’s also water-resistant.

Olio didn’t go into the specifics of what processor they are using or the resolution of the display. As you can see in the images, the display is not fully round. It’s a flat tire at the top vs at the bottom on the Moto 360. We do know that it sports Bluetooth 4.0 and LE, along with wireless charging.

They are offering the watch in two variants. The Steel collection is silver and starts at $595 with a your choice of one of three leather straps or $645 with a silver steel link strap.

The Black collection is black and starts at $745 with a your choice of one of three leather straps or $795 with a black steel link strap.

The first run will include only 500 each of the Steel and Black collections and they will ship this summer. You can sign up to be one of the first to know when they are taking orders. Just hit up the source link below.

Windows Phone’s third party Periscope app lets you watch live streams

Live streaming apps like Twitter’s Periscope and Meerkat are all the rage right now, but so far they’ve only been accessible to iPhone users. Enter Telescope, a third-party Periscope app for Windows Phone, which opens up the service’s live streams to an entirely new audience. You can’t actually broadcast your own streams from the app yet (the developer says it’s coming), but you can sign up for Periscope and view other live feeds from within the app. It’s not a complete solution, but it’s something until Twitter rolls out an official Windows Phone client. Expect to wait a while though — even Twitter’s own microblogging app for Windows Phone is still miles behind its iPhone and Android entries. Both Twitter and Meerkat say they’re also working on Android apps, but Telescope makes Windows Phone the first platform outside of iOS to get one of those live streaming apps.

Google loses bid to block Safari privacy lawsuit in the UK

Back in February 2012, the Wall Street Journal revealed how Google was able to quietly bypass privacy settings in Safari and track the sites people were browsing. The company eventually paid a $22.5 million penalty to the FTC, and now a group of Brits is seeking similar compensation. Google has been trying to appeal a High Court decision that means their case can be heard in the UK, but today the bid was effectively thrown out.

As the BBC reports, a three-judge panel dismissed Google’s arguments and said the privacy claims “raise serious issues that merit a trial.” The method unearthed by the Journal relied upon a piece of code that tricked Safari into thinking users were submitting an invisible form. The code would then install a cookie, which Google could use to track users and, the fear was, deliver targeted ads. At the time, the search giant said the cookies enabled features for signed-in Google users on Safari. At least some of those users weren’t happy though, which has led to the long, drawn out legal battle still ongoing today.

Of course, this isn’t the end of the road either. Google can now be sued by the group, called “Safari Users Against Google’s Secret Tracking,” in the regular UK courts. Should the claimants go ahead — we assume they will, after so much campaigning — we’ll have to endure yet another tussle in the courtroom before any final judgment is made.

Leaked renders reveal HTC One E9+ color variants

htc one e9 leaked colors

Earlier this week, HTC all but confirmed the existence of its One M9+ smartphone, but the company also apparently has a different One E9+ handset in the works as well. @Upleaks has just shared a few alleged press renders of the E9+, showing off three color options for HTC’s other upcoming large handset.

The design looks virtually identical to the phone that passed through China’s TENAA certification agency earlier in the month, down to the two-toned color scheme and the redesigned camera lens placement. The leaked images suggest that the E9+ will be made available in grey, gold/white and gold/silver variants.

Details about the HTC One E9+ are still thin on the ground. The handset is rumored to be a 5.5-inch smartphone with a QHD display, rather than the 1080p resolution found in the One M9, and is said to have a plastic body, rather than metal. Previous leaks have also hinted at a Mediatek processor, 20MP camera, and 3GB of RAM, making this a remarkably similar sounding handset to the One M9+, which is expected to debut at HTC’s event in Beijing on April 8th. The only major differentiator between last year’s E8 and M8 was the handset’s plastic body.

It is possible that HTC will be announcing some or all of the anticipated E9, E9+ and M9+ smartphones at the event in China early next month. HTC’s One E series typically hasn’t ventured much further than China in the past, although the One E8 did end up making it to the US through Sprint.

Google publishes Cloud Console Beta app for managing Cloud Platform services

Cloud Console Icon

Here we have the release of the Cloud Console app from Google that will allow you, the developer, to manage your solution running on the Google Cloud Platform via your Android smartphone or tablet. The app is in beta status and Google says it plans on shipping new features regularly.

Google Cloud Console

The Cloud Console app appears to be the result of Google acquiring the cloud database company called Firebase back in October 2014.

Features:

  • Check the status of your Google App Engine or Compute Engine resources
  • Create your own custom dashboard to get a glanceable overview of your solution
  • Take quick actions directly from your device such as stopping a virtual machine
  • View and manage Incidents tracked in Google Cloud monitoring

Early adopters have asked for features such as API call graphs and quota details as well as asking for a Google Play Developer console app. The Cloud Console app promises to give developers on-the-go control of their virtual machines. Remembering that the app is in beta status, you can download Google’s Cloud Console app by clicking the link below or scanning the QR code with your smart device.

World of Warriors content update brings arena mode for PvP action

world_of_worlds_logo

Gaming becomes even more exciting when multiplayer is introduced because of how fierce competition becomes. Competing against a friend or complete stranger is so fun because of the pursuit of victory. Who wants to lose? No one. For World of Warriors, a new content update pushes the game into ‘player vs. player’ territory. The role-playing game that has hosted nearly two hundred million battles is expanding to battles between players around the world.

The content update introduces Arena Mode, causing players to utilize offensive and defensive tactics to claim victory. Attacks are done while online and, when offline, the preset defenses take control. Battles are won and lost based on every move a player makes. These one-on-one battles are set in front of roaring crowds within grand stadiums. The crowds reaction actually grants players extra points. More importantly, winning battles rewards players with upgrades, customizations for their own stadiums, and new Warriors.
