Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. Galaxy S5
The wraps are off Samsung’s new flagship phone, the Galaxy S6, and here it is compared to last year’s Galaxy S5. We’re looking at an increase in resolution with the same 5.1 inch screen size, from full 1080p to Quad HD 1440p. Samsung has also chosen to ditch the Snapdragon processor in favor of their own Exyos chip, which is an octa-core chip with one quad-core at 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and another quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57.
The camera experience has improved too, with Samsung claiming the low-light performance is much better than its other phones and the iPhone 6. Camera specs for the S6 include a 16 MP sensor, f/1.9 aperture, Smart Optical Image Stabilization, real-time HDR, and LED flash compared to the S5’s 1/2.6” sensor size, and the front camera includes a 5 MP sesnor and f/1.9 aperture.
Expandable storage has been taken out of the S6, but Samsung has given the option of 32, 64, and 128 GB storage options, compared to 16 and 32 GB with the S5.
Battery size has shrunken in the Galaxy S6 in favor of a slimmer body. This may anger many Samsung fans, but Samsung has made many software optimizations with the S6 and has included quick charging capabilities, giving the S6 four hours of use with only 10 minutes of charging.

Samsung Pay will be available in the US and Korea starting this summer
One of the key features of the new S6 and S6 Edge is Samsung‘s take on mobile payments — Samsung Pay. The new mobile payment service will kick off this summer in both the US and Korea and is partnered with both Mastercard and Visa. Through NFC and a new proprietary tech called Magnetic Secure Transmission, Samsung says Samsung Pay will make mobile payments more accessible.
Samsung has also partnered with American Express, Bank of America, Citi, JPMorgan Chase, and U.S. Bank to offer a simple and secure experience for everyone. Not only that but the mobile service has the ability to be accepted at approximately 30 million merchant locations.
With the Samsung Pay app and the built in fingerprint scanner on the S6 and S6 Edge, Pay chooses the desired payment card then with a tap of NFC or MST, your payment is processed. According to Samsung, your card and payment information is securely stored thanks to Samsung KNOX and ARM TrustZone and the data isn’t stored on the the device.
Samsung plans to expand the service into both Europe and China, but that said, there’s not a known time table for it. We’ll update you when we know more.

Samsung Announces Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Samsung Pay
Samsung at Mobile World Congress on Sunday announced its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, each compatible with a new mobile payments service called Samsung Pay. The smartphones are a significant refresh to the Galaxy lineup, featuring a slimmer and lighter metal and glass curved design, all-new front and rear cameras, improved hardware specifications under the hood and more.

The Galaxy S6 Edge is notable in that it is the first smartphone to feature a curved display on both sides of the device, constructed from Gorilla Glass 4. Both smartphones have 16-megapixel rear-facing cameras and 5-megapixel front-facing cameras with f/1.9 lenses for improved low-light photos, Auto HDR, optical image stabilization, IR white balance and a “Quick Launch” feature for accessing the camera from any screen in less than one second.
Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have improved hardware specifications in most areas, each featuring a 5.1-inch 2560×1440 Super AMOLED display at 577 ppi, Exynos 8-core processor, 3GB of RAM up, 32GB to 128GB of internal storage, Category 6 LTE, 802.11/a/c Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE, NFC and 2,550 mAh and 2,600 mAh batteries respectively. The devices will run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
Notably absent from the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge is a MicroSD slot for expandable storage, waterproofing and a removable battery, three features that Samsung often promoted over the iPhone in the past. The smartphones do gain a feature that the iPhone does not have in wireless charging with support for WPC and PMA standards, allowing you to charge the device at Starbucks or using Qi-enabled chargers.
Samsung introduced a new fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, to be used for Samsung Pay, that functions like Touch ID on iPhone by no longer requiring swiping. Samsung Pay will be available this summer and rival Apple Pay with NFC and magnetic secure transmission (MST) technologies that make the service compatible with both NFC-enabled payment terminals and older magnetic swipe readers.
The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will be available April 10 across several countries worldwide in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, and Gold Platinum color options. A special Blue Topaz edition will be exclusive to the United States. The smartphones will be available on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile in the U.S., and will also be on sale through Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, Target, Walmart and Sam’s Club.
HTC One M9 officially announced with 20MP camera and Snapdragon 810
This morning, at least stateside, HTC announced the HTC One M9. Previous leaks were all pretty spot on. The new flagship from the Taiwanese manufacturer carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core 64-bit processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB on board storage, Micro SD card slot, a 5-inch 1080p display and a 20MP camera and is all […]

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge receives Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update in Australia

Another day, another Samsung handset receives an Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update. Today it is the turn of the Galaxy Note Edge (SM-N915G), which has begun receiving its Lollipop OTA update in Australia.
The update weighs in at a hefty 1018.12 MB, but does come with Samsung’s new Material Design inspired user interface, new notification and multitasking systems, Smart Lock, and a host of other improvements to performance and battery life. If you haven’t seen Lollipop running on the Galaxy Note Edge yet, you can check out the leaked details that appeared earlier in the month.
Australians who haven’t received an update notification yet can force a manual check through Settings > About phone > Software update. If you know what you’re doing, SamMobile also has the firmware available for download, which can then be flashed with Odin.
The update should be heading out to other regions in the coming weeks as well.
Samsung releases second Galaxy S6 teaser video

A few days ago, Samsung released its first teaser video for the upcoming Galaxy S6, which was all about the handset’s camera, and the company has just tweeted its second of such videos. This time the video is all about speed – I think.
Again, we aren’t treated to any sneak peeks and there aren’t any features mentioned by name. However, it’s almost inevitable that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will boast cutting edge processor technology come its release. Samsung recently announced a revised, more energy efficient 14nm Exynos 7 Octa, which would be right on the “speed” message of the video. Similarly, if the reduced bloatware rumors turn out to be true, the Galaxy S6’s software may also be leaner and nippier this time around.

Earlier today, Samsung also talked about future support for multiple wireless charging standards. Although the Galaxy S6 wasn’t mentioned by name, the post heavily suggested that the S6 would be one of the company’s first handsets to feature support for multiple wireless charging technologies.
After the first video, we are also pretty sure that camera technology will again be an important feature in the Galaxy S6. Samsung’s executives have promised intelligent camera technology and the company recently published an infographic about the evolution of its camera technology.
What do you think about the latest teaser? Are you excited to see what the Galaxy S6 has to offer?
