Appeer will give you custom app recommendations based on people similar to you

Appeer

Great applications can come and go in a moment’s notice, and if you aren’t constantly sorting through the Google Play Store, odds are you’ll miss a few. Appeer aims to change that by recommending apps to you based on people similar to you.

Here’s how it works: Appeer will look over your app inventory as well as the app inventories of people with similar interests. If three or more of those users have an app that you don’t, you’ll get a recommendation. Plus, Appeer’s unique algorithm auto-follows users for you, so the app recommendations will keep rolling in. Of course, the app also allows you to follow whomever you’d like, which brings a more social aspect to the recommendation service. The only downside to following others is that you’ll need to create a new username for Appeer, so you won’t be able to find your Google+, Facebook or Twitter friends unless you have their Appeer username.

Your Timeline shows all of the apps recommended to other users in your personal social stream. If you find an app that’s worth downloading, click it, and you’ll be launched into the Google Play Store. There’s also a handy bookmarking feature, and the ability to receive push notifications if you’d like.

I’ve only used Appeer for a few hours, and I’m already getting quite a few useful recommendations. If you think you could benefit from the service, head to the Google Play link below to download it for free.

Google is working on version of Android for virtual reality apps

You could have been forgiven for thinking that with so many companies announcing their plans for virtual reality (VR) hardware and Google remaining suspiciously quiet that the Mountain View outfit might not be joining in on the fun. Well, as Wall Street Journal reports, that definitely isn’t the case. In fact, Google has “tens of […]

Starbucks Locator 2.0 shows you’re never too far from coffee

Grande mocha, please. That’s what I usually order from Starbucks. I already know where to find the Starbucks stores near my house, but I need help when I’m somewhere else. While I can use HERE maps to find the nearest Starbucks for my caffeine fixation, a dedicated app can be a faster solution. If you are a frequent Starbucks customer, then the Starbucks Locator for Windows Phone should be installed on your phone. It has just undergone a version 2.0 update. See it in action in our hands-on video.

Mobile data without borders: Using the KnowRoaming SIM sticker abroad

International roaming is a tricky and expensive thing to handle, but things are getting better.

Whether you fly overseas for business regularly or just a couple times a year, budgeting out how much you’ll need to spend to keep your phone connected abroad is never fun. When the editors here at Android Central travel overseas we implore a variety of tactics, from buying roaming packages from U.S. carriers to getting dedicated international hotspots and just buying local SIM cards when we arrive. This year at MWC 2015 I chose to give the KnowRoaming SIM sticker a try.

zombie highway 2 android apps weeklyZombie Highway 2

[Price: Free with in app purchases]
Zombie Highway was a huge success when it first came out a couple of years ago and we expect Zombie Highway 2 to continue that proud tradition. It uses many of the same mechanics as the first game, but includes improved graphics and sound effects, nitro, new cars, new weapons, new zombies, and more. The in app purchases are also surprisingly reasonable. The only downside are the release day bugs so you may need to wait a week or so for everything to get ironed out.

Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge on Verizon begin April 1st

galaxy s6 aa 2

Verizon has just announced that pre-orders for both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will begin on April 1st. While we now have an official pre-order date, the carrier has yet to mention when the phone will actually become available.

Verizon is one of the first US carriers to reveal any specific dates regarding the handset. Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T (among others) have announced that they’ll eventually carry the devices, but these carriers only allow users to pre-register for them so far. With that said, we couldn’t imagine it will be too much longer until the other carriers hop on-board with pre-orders dates.

Wondering what we’re talking about? At MWC 2015, Samsung recently announced its two newest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Both devices feature almost identical specifications, including a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with an impressive resolution of 1440×2560. Also on-board is Samsung’s own Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32/64/128GB of internal storage and a 16MP rear-facing camera. The S6 Edge has a slight curve to it on each side, and also comes with a slightly larger battery. Both devices also come in a number of different colors. We went hands-on with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge a few days ago, and you can find links to those posts below.
