Additional non-final LG G4 angles show front and side

lg_g4_non-final_front

Recently, we caught a look at what is allegedly a non-final press render of the upcoming LG G4. Only the rear of the device was exposed and showed that LG would keep its setup that debuted on the G2 and reappeared on last year’s G3. The new images, still considered non-final press renders, offers looks at the front and side of the G4. Quite noticeable is the slight curve that the device has. Perhaps LG wants to start implementing the G Flex series’ innovative technologies with its flagship as a key selling point.

Hit the break for an image of the side.

Chinese launch of unspecified HTC device hinted by press invite

HTC_Desire_Eye_Front_Lower_Speaker_TA

Invites being sent out to press members for an event hosted by HTC in China point to a launch of an unspecified device. The company is utilizing metal plates with March 11-17 along with Chinese lettering and that, of course, has sparked speculation. It is expected that HTC launches either the One M9 Plus or One E9, maybe both, in China by the end of next week.

The metal plate of the invitation would be favorable for the One M9 Plus to be announced because of its own design. Why not announce a metal phone with a metal invitation? Makes sense to me. The One E9 is plastic and it just would not make sense to give a premium-feeling invitation for a device that conveys the opposite. The One E9 has received certification is China and the One M9 Plus has yet to be announced anywhere else.

Basically, it is a complete tossup to figure out what HTC has coming.

Acer holding press event on April 23rd to show off something new

acer inviteAcer has sent out invitations to a press conference on April 23rd in New York City, but they haven’t specified what kinds of things they’ll be unveiling. With MWC out of the way, it’s hard to imagine why they would put off any new phones or tablets to its own separate event, but that’s what the company is doing anyway.

All the invite mentions is that the company will show off their “latest devices and solutions,” so we know there’s going to be some hardware shown off. Other than that, your guess is as good as ours. Any ideas?

Google releases WebView for Lollipop devices to the Play Store

google_android_system_webview_play_store_listingGoogle fairly recently released a WebView app to the Play Store in a beta state so they could begin updating it independently from major Android updates. The newer versions of WebView let apps render web pages without having to jump to an external browser like Chrome, keeping things neatly packed together instead of using several apps and instances. It’s only available on Lollipop, but sadly, that’s how some newer features are.

Today, that WebView app has ditched the beta tag and is available in the Play Store, ready for regular updates. It’s still only compatible with Android 5.0 and up, but hopefully your device won’t have to wait too much longer to get the update, if you haven’t gotten it already.

Hit the link below to install it on your Lollipop smartphone or tablet.

Olympus’ new compact camera uses retro looks to lure you in

Due to the popularity of smartphones, camera manufacturers have had to scramble trying to find ways to keep their products relevant. And Olympus is no stranger to this. Now, the company has announced its Stylus SH-2, a point-and-shoot camera that’s using retro looks to, hopefully, appeal to the masses. Like they say, however, looks aren’t everything. As such, Olympus is making this compact cam beautiful on the inside too, featuring a RAW capture mode, 5-axis image stabilization, WiFi and the ability to shoot 1080p video at 60 fps. Just as important, the Stylus SH-2 comes with a 16-megapixel sensor and 24x optical zoom lens (24-600mm wide-angle equivalent) — similar to what we saw on the Stylus SH-1, which was introduced last March. It’ll be available in black and silver next month for $400, while the companion carrying cases will be sold separately.

WhatsApp Beta updated – Full-text chat search and font scaling improved

Seems as though the WhatsApp developers are at it again. A new release is now appearing in the BlackBerry Beta Zone for those of you out there who don’t mind some beta testing. According to the change log, this update focuses on two main concerns.

One being an enhanced full-text chat search feature that allows better search of message history. The other being font scaling improvements within WhatsApp, so the system display settings for font now match in-app settings. Of course, there are the usual ‘miscellaneous fixes and updates’ to round out the update as well.

Several Sony Xperia Z devices seeing Lollipop update in India

Sony XperiaSony is only planning on rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its Xperia Z line of smartphones, which isn’t great news if you own a different class of Xperia device. If you do have an Xperia Z phone, though, you’re in luck, as the company is beginning its rollout of the software in India.

Sony’s Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3, and Xperia Z3 Compact are all seeing the Android upgrade going live, and it’s likely going to follow suit in other markets as well. Carrier versions might have to wait a little longer, but rest assured, Sony’s working on it. Hopefully 5.1 won’t be too far off.

Moto 360 arrives to Moto Maker

moto-360-moto-maker

In March we learned that Motorola would be bringing Moto Maker customization to the Moto 360. Nearly half way through the month, Motorola has now delivered on that promise.

Unlike the Moto X, the Moto Maker Moto 360 option doesn’t give you the ability to chose customized materials and accent colors, instead you can pick between three watch colors (black, silver and champagne), multiple watch bands, multiple band sizes and users can set a special watchface as the out of box default. The Moto Maker option is live now, with the base price set for $249.99. As you’d expect, options like a metal band and metal base will run you an extra $50 for each.

What do you think, like the idea of Moto Maker support for the Moto 360? Would you like to see even deeper customization with Motorola’s future Android Wear iterations?
