No Android 5.1 for HTC One M7

HTC’s Vice President of Product Management, Mo Versi, has confirmed via Twitter that Android 5.1 is coming only to the Google Play edition of the One M7.

The company promised two years of update support, and it has completed that fufillment already. Nonetheless, Android 5.1 is a much needed update over 5.0 since it fixes so many problems with that version of the OS. As AndroidAuthority‘s Andrew Grush speculates, HTC may be thinking that most users of the One M7 will or already have upgraded to another smartphone, which is why another update is not needed.

Amazon working on ‘Amazon Unlocked’ for apps and games gives you the whole shebang, including IAP’s, upfront

There have been a number of attempts to create an all you can eat app style store front that gave users a monthly payment option to get and have paid titles. I remember Amazon tried, or still offers, something similar where you can try apps at least before you buy them. Now it would appear […]

Suicide hoax lands Facebook user in psychiatric institution

A user from California recently put Facebook’s suicide prevention feature to test. According to a report, Shane Tusch shared his frustrations about his bank on the social network and posted a fake-threat to hang himself from the Golden Gate Bridge. A reader swiftly reported his post. As per the prevention service update last month, Facebook locked Tusch out of his account. He should have been in conversation with a crisis worker soon after, but instead he was arrested and placed in a psychiatric institution for a total of 70 hours.

At a time when people are perpetually signed into social networks, online intervention could prove to be a crucial tool in saving lives. According to the CDC, suicide is the tenth leading cause of death across all ages in the US. Facebook first stepped in to help with its reporting tool in 2011. In partnership with suicide prevention organizations, the network eventually found a way to get friends involved beyond likes and comments. Through the service a concerned friend (or, as Tusch claims, a relative stranger) can report a suicide threat to generate a concerned email from Facebook.

Advocates root for the program. But Tusch’s experiment underscores the fact that it’s hard to tell a hoax from the truth on social media. He contacted Consumer Watchdog to share the repercussions of his Facebook post. And the non-profit sent Mark Zuckerberg a letter last week, asking him to discontinue the “ill-conceived” feature until it was better equipped with safeguards for users.

Facebook’s “you matter to us” service is not fool proof. Apart from hoaxes, trolls who thrive in the loopholes of online features could misuse it. But for those who take to social media as a last resort in life, perhaps the benefits of the service trump its potential for being trolled.

The best ways to get photos off your Android

They say the best camera is the one you have with you.

That means that your Android smartphone is likely the camera you use the most and the one you’ll be taking pictures off of the most. Nothing can be quite as frustrating as taking a picture you need to print out, or send off to the print shop, but not being able to get it off your phone and onto your necessary machine. And while there are many, many ways to get a photo from your phone to your computer, cloud storage, or anywhere else you’d like to keep it, here are the best ways we’ve found to get from Point A to Point B.

Check out the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in this early review

It may still be a few weeks until the Galaxy S6 Edge is released but an early review has hit YouTube to give us an early impression of the next Samsung device.

BeginnersTech has managed to get their hands on the S6 Edge and have provided an initial impressions review outlining the key specifications and performance, especially how the curved edges of the device handle.

TouchWiz has been toned down and the S6 Edge comes with Android Lollipop (5.1 hopefully) and that is coupled with 3GB of RAM and a Exynos Octa-Core processor making it a real power-house.

You can check out the review below:

Samsung Galaxy S6 expected to sell in huge numbers

If you haven’t heard about the Samsung Galaxy S6, go search it on Google once you’ve dug yourself out from under that rock.  Samsung completely redesigned their flagship to provide a phone with premium materials and a gorgeous design.  There will be an edge variant, which has two gently curved sides(nothing wrong with curves), and there is a rumored Active version.  The rumored Active version, if it follows its predecessors, should have built in dust, water and shock resistance to satisfy those Galaxy S5 fans who appreciate those features.

Initial data suggests that Samsung has already received over 20 million orders for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, with a total projection of 55 million units expected to sell this year.  The forecast of sales increased significantly after analysts had enough time to digest how important this phone will be to its customer base.

Samsung listened to its customers when they complained about cheap materials and redesigned the S line into something completely beautiful.  They did abandon their loyal fans, like me, when they did away with the expandable memory(we have Google to blame for that more than Samsung), as well as doing away with a replaceable battery.  If Samsung gets back into the groove with the S line, I cannot fault them for delivering a phone that suits the masses more than the enthusiasts like myself(as long as they keep the removable battery with the Note line).  And now with batteries charging faster than ever, we may not even need to swap batteries anymore.  Samsung did include wireless charging this time which should please many customers, as the previous models required a special cover that was thicker and more expensive.

There are lots of Samsung haters, just like Apple, but it is nice to see a company respond to their customers demands.
