Image of Apple Store in-ear headphone demo kit reportedly surfaces
We may have gotten our first look at the Demo Kits that will be used to allow customers to try on in-ear headphones in Apple Retail Stores.
Apple’s intention to let customers try on in-ear headsets in their stores was reported earlier this month. The Demo Kit were reported to consist of six pairs of headphones: The urBeats, Beats Tour, and PowerBeats 2 Wireless, all made by the Apple-owned Beats Electronics, and the RHA MA450i, JayBird BlueBuds X, and the Bose QC20.
An image of the kit has reportedly surfaced, thanks to Japanese blog Macotakara.
Customers who make use of the Demo Kit are said to be able to keep the tips that are used when trying on headphones. Apple Store employees will apparently also wipe down the headphones after each use. This will help keep the process sanitary, a major issue with trying in-ear headphones on in a public store.

Holy sh*t snacks! Redditors find massive ‘Archer’ Easter egg
I’m not sure which is more impressive: the fact that the Archer series creators went through so much trouble to create such an elaborate Easter egg or the fact that someone was actually able to crack the multiple mind-bending puzzles needed to reveal it. And from the looks of things, we haven’t even come close to the bottom of this rabbit hole.
The mystery began when eagle-eyed Redditor aglidden noticed what appeared to be a hex code in a scene from the popular animated spy spoof. Translating that code generated a URL that in turn led to a YouTube video. Running the YouTube video’s audio channel through a spectrogram then uncovered a hidden message encoded with a Vigenère cipher. Deciphering that message revealed another URL to a Craigslist ad (clearly posted by Kreiger) looking for medical experiment volunteers. The Craigslist ad contained another cypher revealing another URL, this time leading to Kreiger’s personal Reddit page. Decrypting the Reddit page revealed a link to Kreiger’s Flickr account, which linked to the mad scientist’s personal website, Algersoft.net. And that’s where things get really weird.

Logging into the Algersoft website (the password is, of course, “guest“) uncovers as many new questions as answers. Users can play games, view images and attempt to access restricted files such as insurance.zip (though nobody’s managed to crack that passcode yet). Presumably future episodes will provide further hints for unraveling this intricate conundrum. Head over to Reddit for a complete listing of both the known Archer Easter Eggs and many more potential surprises.

BlackBerry Leap arrives at the FCC
Although BlackBerry slipped up a bit early and listed the device formerly known as the Z20, now the BlackBerry Leap, inside FCC documents for the BlackBerry Passport, the BlackBerry Leap has arrived at the FCC seeking approval. As the device is already official, the FCC documents don’t reveal much of anything that isn’t already known about the latest all-touch device except, perhaps, a possible approximate launch time frame for North America.
Dell UK now offering an entry level XPS 13 at £799
We’re big fans of Dell’s latest XPS 13 round these parts, but one issue there has been outside of the U.S. is availability of the full range. In the UK, for example, the only models to go on sale initially were the range topping, Intel Core i7 models. Fortunately that’s improved since and now British buyers can spend substantially less and get one from £799.
Author of ‘Becoming Steve Jobs’ talks about his time with the Apple co-founder
Brent Schlender, co-author of the upcoming Becoming Steve Jobs, opens up about his relationship with Jobs in the new book.
Jobs and Schlender first met in 1986 as Jobs was trying to get publicity for NeXT. Schlender, who at the time was working for The Wall Street Journal, refused to do a story on Jobs and the company. But that didn’t sour Jobs’ opinion on him, and it marked the beginning of what would be a 25-year relationship between subject and reporter, according to Fortune:
“Not writing a feature was the first salvo in the twenty-five-year-long negotiation that marked our relationship,” writes Schlender in the prologue that kickstarts the book. “There was never a minute where the basic terms of our relationship weren’t clear: I was the reporter, he was the source and subject.”
Schlender and Jobs eventually began speaking regularly, with long interviews, phone calls, and hospital visits:
Jobs cultivated Schlender, gave him long interviews, called him to gossip and complain. Schlender visited Jobs at home; Jobs visited Schlender in the hospital, where they ended up together more often than either would have wished.
Becoming Steve Jobs will be available beginning Tuesday, March 24. In addition to reporting from Schlender and co-auther Rick Tetzeli, the book contains interviews with many of the people who new Jobs best, including Apple executives Jony Ive and Tim Cook, and Job’s wife, Laurene Powell Jobs. You can pre-order the book on both iTunes and Amazon.

Google develops specialized tablet for health workers treating Ebola in Sierra Leone
Google has developed a specialized tablet in order to assist aid workers in Sierra Leone with easily tracking the vitals of patients afflicted with Ebola.
The device, which is essentially a Sony Xperia tablet wrapped in a protective casing, is designed to be used with gloves and can endure the harsh weather conditions in the area. Additionally, the case’s round corners eliminate any risk of piercing the protective clothing used by aid workers.
