Samsung said to be working on custom CPU cores

Samsung already produces the Exynos chipsets for its flagships like the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge. A new report is now claiming that the company will soon start making its own CPU cores as well, thus reducing its dependency on current producer ARM.

As it stands, the likes of Samsung, Qualcomm and MediaTek are capable of designing their own chipsets, but still have to rely on ARM CPU cores. Developing their own CPU cores will certainly make lives a lot easier for Samsung, while also increasing revenue at the same time.

This is merely a report at this point, so there’s no word from the company to prove its authenticity, although it is said that the SoC will break cover by next year with samples said to be ready by the first quarter of 2016.

It’s unlikely that the new CPU will be shown off in any devices next year, but don’t be surprised to find it running on the Galaxy S7 flagship.
