T-Mobile announces new plans for businesses, starting at $16 a line


T-Mobile has announced its latest Un-carrier move, this one aimed at businesses.

T-Mobile will offer businesses plans with unlimited talk and text, with 1GB of data included, for $16 a month for 10 to 19 lines. At 20 or more lines, companies will pay $15 per line. If your company has 1000 lines or more, it will cost $10/line For an additional $10 a line, they can add 2GB of data, and for $30 per line, they can get unlimited data.

There are also a number options for pooled data. Pooled data plans of 100GB will cost $4.75 per GB. The cost per gigabyte goes down as the pool increases. A 500GB pool will cost $4.50 per GB, while a 1TB pool costs $4.25 a GB. Data overages on a data pool continue at that pools rate, so if you use 101GB on a 100GB plan, then the extra data will cost you $4.75.

The carrier is also introducing something called the Business Family Discount. If you have a business line, that will count as the first line in a family plan. Instead of $50 per line, the price drops to $30 for the first family plan line. A Business Family Discount will require a contract with T-Mobile to enable.

Today, at an event in New York City, T-Mobile announced Un-carrier 9.0, ‘Un-carrier for Business’™, unleashing a salvo of industry-rattling moves delivering a radically new level of transparency, simplicity and value − and upending how business buys wireless.

Already, T-Mobile’s rocked the status quo with a drumbeat of Un-carrier™ moves − marking the end of annual service contracts, overages and inflated international roaming fees, and the introduction of anytime upgrades, Wi-Fi calling and texting, free inflight messaging and Data Stash™. But today, T-Mobile turned the full force of its Un-carrier revolution to unleashing wireless for American business.

“We’re going to do for businesses, what we’ve already been doing for consumers,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. “Eliminate pain points and force change. The majority of US businesses − a full 99.7% − have less than 500 employees and don’t have the money or resources to waste debating, negotiating and deciphering the carriers’ hidden pricing. Today, we’re upending how business buys wireless with 100% transparent pricing, the best rates, business family discounts, and more.”

Everything consumers hate about the carriers is even worse for companies. Once they know you’re a business, the carriers see dollar signs − and customers are tossed into a whole new game where unwritten rules mean the carriers win every time. US businesses deal with artificially inflated rate cards and the madness of having to haggle for a fair price. Even if a customer gets a rate they can live with, the happy feeling doesn’t last long. Close to three-quarters of businesses say they’re stressed their wireless rates will get jacked up over time − and feel ripped off by their carrier.

And they aren’t far wrong. Each year, the big carriers rake in over $80 billion in revenues from US businesses − about half the carriers’ total wireless revenues. What started as “special treatment” for large corporations with procurement teams and hours to kill negotiating deals, is now a frustrating process for just about every company buying wireless services in America. It’s no wonder over 70 percent of US businesses say they’re sick of the game and want simple, transparent pricing.

Our Best Price is Our Only Price
Today, with its Un-carrier plan for business, T-Mobile’s putting an end to the pricing shell game and compulsory haggling with one incredibly simple, flexible rate plan. Need 20 lines? 100 lines? 500 lines? That’s $15 dollars per line. For every line beyond 1,000 lines, the price is $10. Need more data? Simply choose to add high-speed data per line or add a data pool that all employees can access. For phones, add another 2GB of 4G LTE high-speed data for $10 a line or go with unlimited 4G LTE data for $30 a line. Or go with a pooled data option that’s nothing like the other guys’ shared data schemes − where you’re punished with outrageous overage penalties when you need more data. “The carriers’ shared data schemes hit you up with overage penalties of 200% to 432% of your original rate whenever you need more data,” Legere said. “With our new pooled data option, you’ll never pay more than your original rate when you need more. Tools to Mobilize Your Business
And, as part of Un-carrier for Business, T-Mobile’s giving additional sweet benefits to businesses of all sizes. T-Mobile today also announced the Un-carrier will offer an exclusive set of business tools to solve some very real pain points impacting the majority of US businesses.

Through a new partnership with GoDaddy, T-Mobile’s offering a free .com domain and website, optimized for mobile viewing to business customers on our new plan with at least one line with additional paid data. The Un-carrier’s new business benefits program also includes free custom .com email addresses for your business powered by Microsoft Office 365. The offer includes one business email for every T-Mobile business line with additional paid data. For a 20-person business, these tools would normally cost more than $1,300 every year, but are included at no additional cost through these special partnerships.

“We’re not just setting up your business with wireless − we’re setting you up to do business,” said Sievert. “It’s a fact that over half of US consumers say they wouldn’t trust a business without a website − yet more than half of American small businesses don’t have a site. It’s a big problem for the smallest businesses − and we’re solving it.”

These moves in themselves represent a revolution in wireless for American businesses. But there’s more. The Un-carrier’s taking it even further by fixing pain points and doing right by your employees’ families, too.

Business Family Discounts
More than 70% of families choose the same wireless company that’s provided for business use by an employer. But, when you sign up your family, the old carriers don’t give you full credit for already being a loyal business customer. Instead they give you a measly 8%-15% discount. T-Mobile says:

To take advantage of Carrier Freedom, a customer simply ports their number to T-Mobile’s wildly popular Simple Choice plan, trades in their smartphone or tablet and buys one of our hot new smartphones. They’ll get the trade-in value right away, and a prepaid card with the balance of additional outstanding phone payments after the trade-in value when they submit the carrier’s bill to T-Mobile − up to $650 total per line on up to 10 total lines. Businesses with more than 10 lines also can also take advantage of Carrier Freedom, with bill credits up to $100 per line after the 10th line.

This new program is similar to one announced a few days ago by Sprint. It is now offering customers who switch from another carrier a way to reimburse them of both their termination fees and any remaining phone payments.

In addition, T-Mobile says that all current promotional plans have now become permanent. For example, all 5 million customers who signed up for the 4 lines for $100 a month with a temporary 2GB data plan will now get that same data amount from now on. Any price that T-Mobile customers are paying for a caped data plan won’t go up. Finally, T-Mobile said that their unlimited plans won’t change for at least two years.

Bellevue, Washington and New York, New York — March 18, 2015 — John Legere just can’t seem to leave well enough alone. Today, during an event held to announce Un-carrier 9.0 − Un-carrier for Business − the President & CEO of T-Mobile (NYSE: TMUS) unveiled not one but two new major Un-carrier™ initiatives for consumers as well.

First, with T-Mobile’s new ‘Un-contract,’ customers will now have more certainty in their wireless pricing than ever before. Consumers and businesses alike can now rest assured that their Simple Choice rate plan won’t go up as long as they’re a T-Mobile customer and keep their plan − and even customers with unlimited 4G LTE will lock in their rates for a minimum of two years. The Un-contract
Wireless customers don’t trust the carriers, and they have good reason. Nearly half of consumers and business owners surveyed say they’ve been offered a good deal by the carriers only to have their rates raised later. And, more than two-thirds of consumers and business owners believe their wireless rates will go up in the next two years.

With the Un-contract, T-Mobile is putting an end to price uncertainty − and flipping the very idea of the carrier contract on its head. Now, we sign the contract, you get the freedom.

“We’re the Un-carrier. Everything the carriers do, we un-do,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. “The other guys have been throwing out all kinds of desperate, short-term promotions to suck you in and lock you down − only to jack up rates later. We’re not playing that game. The Un-contract is our promise to individuals, families and businesses of all sizes, that − while your price may go down − it won’t go up.”

Traditional wireless industry contracts are all take and no give. They lock you in and give you nothing in return. The carriers can do just about anything they want − including changing your plan and even raising your rates.

By contrast, the Un-contract is all give, no take. You can keep your existing Simple Choice plan and we won’t raise your rates. As part of this commitment, customers on existing Simple Choice promotional plans − like the Un-carrier’s ultra-popular 4 lines for $100 with up to 10 GB of 4G LTE data − can keep them for as long as they’re T-Mobile customers. And, if you have an unlimited 4G LTE plan, you can rest assured your rates won’t change for a minimum of two years. Carrier Freedom
Second, T-Mobile launched Carrier Freedom, a new move designed to free the 29 million people currently locked in to a device payment plan or lease with the old-school carriers by covering their outstanding device payments when they switch to T-Mobile.

“The carriers will do everything they possibly can to lure you in − then screw you out of every possible penny while you’re locked in,” added Legere. “Now, the millions who feel stuck with AT&T Next and Verizon Edge can jump to T-Mobile at no risk. Carrier Freedom is the next phase in bringing more choice and flexibility to this broken industry.”

For wireless customers, the single biggest obstacle to switching providers is cost. And last year, T-Mobile took a wrecking ball to that barrier with its Contract Freedom program, offering to pay every penny of the carriers’ punitive early termination fees (ETFs). The move helped catapult T-Mobile into the fastest growing wireless company in the U.S. with more than 8.3 million net new customers last year.

Now, with Carrier Freedom, T-Mobile is extending this radically simple concept to cover outstanding phone or tablet payments for those who bought their device on AT&T Next, Verizon Edge or other carrier equipment installment plans (EIPs) or leasing plans. The move frees 29 million more people locked into equipment payment plans or leases with the other guys to switch to T-Mobile. Malware protection for older Macs


Some anti-malware software only supports newer versions of OS X. If you’re running an older Mac, use this instead.

Some folks aren’t comfortable upgrading their Macs’ operating systems, and continue to use versions that aren’t well-supported by new software. Fortunately there’s still a solution for Macs running OS X Snow Leopard.

10.6 (Snow Leopard) is a fantastic version of the Mac operating system that many users are still quite happy with. And if you’re happy with it, why upgrade, right?

Well, frankly, I can think of a million reasons to upgrade — Yosemite on a newer Mac and iOS 8 on modern iOS devices is a powerful combination. But I recognize that not everyone is quite as anxious to uproot their Mac’s operating system as I am. It’s scary! And it’s sometimes a one-way trip.

The Mac adware removal software I’ve written about before includes AdwareMedic, Intego Mac Internet Security X8, and ClamXav. The first two apps require OS X Lion or higher, but ClamXav still works on Snow Leopard, according to its developer.

I’ll be perfectly honest: I like AdwareMedic the best of any of these apps. I’ve had the best luck nuking the adware that’s infested my family’s and my customers’ Macs. But if you’re really not comfortable upgrading to something newer than Snow Leopard, ClamXav will work too.

What’s more you can set up ClamXav as either “passive” or “active:” You can configure only to scan the files you want to check, or activate “Sentry” mode to monitor your hard drive every time new files arrive.

Camera+ adds iPhone 6 and 6 Plus support, a widget, and more


Popular photography app Camera+ has been updated to version 6.2 with several major changes and improvements. Camera+ has added a widget, better white balance controls, and more.

The new Today widget with Camera+ lets you open the app from anywhere. Tapping the app’s Take Photo button will open the app in photography mode, no matter what you were doing when you left it. From developer tap tap tap’s release notes:

First up is the new Today Widget where you can get handy Photo Tips, read inspirational Photo Quotes of the Day, and most importantly, easily open Camera+ from anywhere. That’s right… with a simple swipe & tap, you now have lock screen access to Camera+! In order to comply with the guidelines, we felt a bit like a Bichon Frisé jumping through a series of flaming hoops, but our singed fur was worth it to get this nifty feature into your hands. If you’re not familiar with how to enable widgets, simply follow the instructions in the Camera+ settings menu in the Extensions section.

The new white balance control lets you dial your photo’s white balance to whatever Kelvin temperature that you want. The app also has white balance presets for people that don’t need to fiddle with white balance that much.

Camera+ has also added full support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus as well as a new built-in Instagram sharing option.
