An updated version of Google Messenger is making its way out into the hands of Android users which might be a welcome change for some. As noted by Android Police, the 1.2 release of the app offers support for animated gifs in conversation threads. Sure, it seems like one of those things that should have been there all along, but whatever. Additionally, the latest update figures to include a refreshed menu screen with a little more organization.
If you’re the type of person who doesn’t like to wait around for the update to hit your phone, you can install the app directly now (see below). Otherwise, it will roll out in the coming days.

Dropbox adds more functionality with its latest update – a PDF viewer. No matter where your PDF was created, you will be able to get a preview of your file without having to leave the Dropbox app. If you’ve downloaded a PDF on your phone and it is saved somewhere outside of Dropbox, you will still be able to view the file within Dropbox even if you are offline.
In addition to the new PDF viewer, users will now be able to search within documents, and that includes PDFs, Word docs, and Powerpoint files. No more need to read through entire PDFs or Powerpoints to find the exact information you are looking for.
For a free cloud storage service, Dropbox continues to lead the pack with features and usability. The update will be available on Google play in the next few days.

MixRadio, a popular music-streaming service on Windows Phone is heading over to iOS and Android very soon. We got our hands-on the Android version earlier this week, but now we have early access to the iOS app, too. It’s not finished yet and it’s currently in private beta, but we like what we see so far. Want to see it action? Check out our hands-on video.
Windows Phone fans who use MixRadio might get jealous. The new design looks really good on iOS and Android. We wouldn’t worry though. We heard this new look would make it to Windows Phone later on.
The MixRadio app has 4 sections that you can quickly access at the bottom of the screen: My Mix, Mixes, Create, and Offlined. My Mix creates a personalized mix by from your favorite genres and artists. The playlist continues evolving as you like or dislike songs. The Mixes section lets you browse through various mixes depending on themes or genres. There are many to choose from. If you don’t like any of the pre-made mixes, you may try the Create a mix section. It lets you create a mix depending on artists you like.
Customizing the My Mix playlist is very easy. It asks you to select multiple genres and artists. The artist selection screen also dynamically suggests artists who you might be interested in. For example, if you select Kanye West, MixRadio pops up Drake and Jay-Z on the artist selection screen.
My favorite feature on MixRadio is offline mixes. You can download any mix, including the personalized My Mix. You don’t have to depend on a network connection later on, so this is very handy on those long road trips or in areas with poor coverage.
MixRadio is currently in private beta, but we like what we see so far. There has been no announcement yet on when it’ll be available at the App Store. What do you think? Would you use it on iPhone? Let us know in the comments.
Last month Gameloft released a trailer for the next installment of the Dungeon Hunter series, Dungeon Hunter 5. The title is now available in Google Play so players can step into the fantasy world and start engaging in some hack ‘n’ slash action. Dungeon Hunter 5 follows the serial nature of previous titles in the series and picks up in a world that is still dark despite the failure of a demon invasion in the Kingdom of Valenthia.
Gameloft includes several play modes in Dungeon Hunter 5, including a single-player campaign that spans five “realms” full of monsters and plunder. Two online gameplay options are available, one a cooperative mode where you work with other players and one called “Asynchronous” in which you are defending your stronghold against other opponents.
Dungeon Hunter 5 includes the ability to fuse together your own gear from 46 pieces of armor and 150 weapons for unique combinations, which can be enhanced with rewards from daily and weekly events. Players will also have to work on mastering five different elements – water, fire, light, nature and dark – to enhance and power up their weapons, spells and armor.
The basic game is free, but does include in-app purchase. Weighing in at 1.3GB in size, you will probably want to make sure you are on WiFi before trying to install Dungeon Hunter 5, which you can grab from the Play Store using one of the download links below.

The Google+ homepage — called the stream — can be somewhat unpredictable at times. That label at the top may say All Circles, but posts from your communities and from complete strangers — in the form of Extended Circles or Hot and Recommended posts — wind up here, too. It can be wild, it can be unruly, or — even worse — boring if you don’t have your stream set up right. But with a few simple tools, you can try to tame your Google+ stream and sculpt your stream into a fountain of knowledge.
Or a black hole of fan community posts, gifs, and cat videos. We’re not judging.

Sony has released Android 5.1 Lollipop binaries for a host of smartphones and tablets, including the entire Xperia Z series. The Xperia E3, M2, T2 Ultra and T3 handsets are also included in the list.
Binaries are used by Sony, or third parties, to make sure that AOSP will run on specific pieces of hardware. This release doesn’t allow Sony handset owners to run Sony’s official Android 5.1 on their smartphones just yet, but it does show that development in under way for all of these devices.
XDA forum member cheep5k8 has already taken the files and implemented an early alpha AOSP 5.1 build for the Xperia Z2. Most of the features already work, except the camera and a few sound glitches, but you’ll need to know what you’re doing with .img files if you want to test it out. Perhaps waiting for a more polished build would be wise.
Previously, Sony’s Twitter account had responded that Android 5.0 Lollipop would only be heading to Xperia Z branded devices. Either Sony was being cheeky and knew that it would be skipping 5.0 straight to 5.1 for some of its other devices, or, more likely, there was some miscommunication between Sony engineers and its social media team.
Hopefully we will hear official news from Sony regarding Android 5.1 updates for all of these handsets in the near future.
First announced back in January as an interstellar continuation of Civilization: Beyond Earth, Firaxis‘ Sid Meier’s Starships today launches for iPad, PC, and Mac (via iMore).
Developed by Firaxis in conjunction with 2K Games and Meier himself, Starships places players at the helm of a fleet of starships and tasks them with building a thriving interplanetary federation.

Players will gather new technology, discover new planets, and wage wars in missions that will randomly generate combat, offering a degree of replayability to the main story thread. Though still unclear, Civilization: Beyond Earth and Starships will also offer some form of connectivity between the two games, as well.
Set in the universe of Civilization: Beyond Earth after the age of the Seeding, Sid Meier’s Starships offers sci-fi/strategy fans a full stand-alone game experience that also features cross-connectivity with Beyond Earth, expanding the depth of both games. See if you have what it takes to rule the universe!
• Tactical Space Combat: Encounter unique tactical challenges in every mission, with dynamically generated maps, victory conditions, and foes.
• Fully Customizable Starships: Create an armada that fits your tactical plan with modular spaceship design.
• Diplomacy, Strategy, and Exploration: Expand the influence of your Federation and gain the trust of the citizens of new planets. Use the unique abilities of the each planet to enhance your fleet and Federation, and keep your opponents in check. Build improvements on worlds to increase the capabilities and resources of your Federation.
• A Galaxy Of Adventure: Explore the galaxy as you lead your fleet to distant worlds and complete missions to help the citizens of these planets. Fight pirates, protect colony ships, destroy rogue AI, and more.
• Multiple Paths To Victory: Will you win by conquering the greatest threat to the galaxy? Or will you unite a plurality of worlds in your Federation? Perhaps you will lead your people to push the frontiers of science. Each choice you make carries consequences on your path to victory
A few early reviews have praised the game for offering the complexities of the Civilization series without the huge time commitment, though simultaneously noting hardcore fans may have issue with the shorter, more “bite-sized” gameplay.
The iPad App Store version of Sid Meier’s Starships [Direct Link] is out now, but the PC and Mac editions on Steam can currently only be pre-purchased, with a three hour countdown marking the game’s release as of writing. The game is available for $14.99 on all platforms.
