Find your perfect CM11 theme: Part II

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve taken a look at any CM11 themes, but the gentlemen here at AndroidGuys, sure haven’t stopped. Today, I’m going to take a look at a few of the CM 11 themes that I’ve been using on my HTC One M8, running the CM 11 nightlies.
FLATRED CM11/PA by Sparkyman
Sparkyman, Sparkyman, Sparkyman. No, saying his name three times won’t summon him like Beetlejuice, but Sparkyman really rocked FLATRED for CM 11/PA out of the park. I can’t say enough about how soft, yet awesome this theme looks. As you will be able to see in the next section for Mono, I have an addiction for the red and black CM 11 themes, and FLATRED is just that.
While other themes are a “hard” black and red, FLATRED has more of a soft feel to it, and is extremely pleasant on the eyes. From the Play Store, to the Settings application, and the way that the drop down notifications are themed, FLATRED is beautiful across the board. Sparkyman even snuck the Android L navigation buttons in there, and it really helps the theme.
I know that I love just about any theme that has either extremely minimal navigation buttons, or the Android L navigation buttons, so FLATRED fell perfectly into my checklist for themes. Sparkyman has themed just about everything you can think of, and in his description states that “This is A FULL SYSTEM AND FRAMEWORK THEME INCLUDING APPS.”
The status bar, the battery symbol, the Settings application, all of the toggles and icons, the Play Store, Google Play Music, all of these apps/features of Android are themed with FLATRED. If you are looking for a CM 11 theme that is easy on the eyes, and looks beautiful at the same time, FLATRED may be the theme for you. FLATRED by Sparkyman is available on the Play Store for $0.99 via the widget below.
MONO by Yackovsky
Mono by yackovsky is a set of absolutely stunning CM 11 themes for your devices. Comprised of six, yes six, different CM 11 themes, packed into one masterpiece, Mono is sure to never leave your device feeling naked. In the most recent update, Yackovsky added Red Velvet as one of the color options, as well as themed Hangouts, Twitter, and part of the Facebook applications. Yackovsky has been on a roll with these, and promises to bring more updates in the future. Currently the six different color options for Mono are:
- Pinkalicious
- Sky Blue
- Limelight
- Tangly Orange
- Ultraviolet
- Red Velvet
- Charcoal Gray
Now, much like wlpapR and the various wallpaper options, Mono doesn’t keep all of these different themes stored on your device locally. Instead, Mono uses a dashboard application where you can preview the themes, and then select and download whatever color scheme you’d like to use.
My personal favorite at the moment is Red Velvet, and it may or may not have something to do with MKBHD, but nonetheless, I was ecstatic when I saw Red Velvet added to the lineup. Before that, I was using Sky Blue, and it’s absolutely gorgeous just like all of the other themes in the Mono Collection.
From the navigation bar, to the status bar, and including the Settings panel, Yackovsky thought of everything when it came to designing Mono. The color scheme even reaches to the redesigned keyboard, and some of the stock applications, as well as some third-party applications, such as Instagram. Yackovsky’s Mono Collection for CM 11 is available on the Play Store for $4.00, and is actually on sale until Friday for 33% off. So hurry now, hit the widget below and pick this awesome set of themes up for an amazing price.
Tang CM 11 by DrumDestroyer
In our last iteration of CM 11 themes, we took a look at Empire for CM 11 by DrumDestroyer. At the time, it was one of my favorites, and then a little while back, DrumDestroyer decided to create a CM 11 theme based off of his Tang icons. Boy oh boy, he didn’t disappoint.
After perfecting everything within Empire, DrumDestroyer did it again with Tang, and created one amazing CM 11 theme that covers your device from head to toe. Included in Tang, are the Tang icons, which can also be purchased separately, but I highly recommend, just jumping for the CM 11 theme, that way you can get the whole shabang, in one go.
With 53 various packages/applications themed, and over 1850 high-resolution icons, the Tang CM 11 theme, is really the complete package. DrumDestroyer also states that since he could not get Hangouts themed via the theme engine, in the way that he wanted, he is including a flashable zip file for those that want “Tangouts”.
Last but certainly not least, is my favorite part about Tang. No, it’s not the amazing icons, or the how awesome everything looks once Tang is set as the main theme, but it’s the Boot Animation. With Empire, DrumDestroyer gave me a heads up to take a look at the boot animation, and I was floored. It looked so smooth and so fresh, and I was just so excited that I had to tell him how awesome I thought it was. So be sure to look for it, once you pick up Tang. Tang for CM 11 is available on the Play Store via the widget below for $1.99.
Kaagaz by Idea Designs
Kaagaz by Idea Designs is wrapping up today’s edition of trying to find the “Perfect” CM 11 theme. Kaagaz offers a different take on CM 11 themes that surround the color Blue. The shade that Idea Designs uses in this theme is a little bit darker, but mesmerizing at the same time. It’s definitely a pleasure to look at, while using it on your various devices.
You may have heard of Idea Designs with their various beautiful icon packs, such as Twint, Curve, and Zade. Well the developer over at Idea Designs is back at it again with an awesome CM 11 theme called Kaagaz.
Kaagaz also includes a different style of the Android L navigation buttons, and these fit really well with the rest of the theme. Everything you can think of is themed within Kaagaz. From the Framework, and System UI, to the Boot Animation, Quick Tiles, and even the Loading Spinner.
All in all, there are 23 different packages that are themed, and Idea Designs includes over 40 different custom icons that are designed to match the Quick Tiles, and tie in the rest of the theme for your home screen/app drawer. The background for Kaagaz, around the board, has a paper feel to it, so it almost looks like you are using a virtual notebook, with worn pages. It’s a very unique idea, but an awesome execution for this CM 11 theme. Kaagaz is available on the Play Store for $1.65 via the widget below.
These are a few more of the latest CM 11 themes that have graced my home screens over the last few months. Keep an eye out for the next edition, while we try to find the Perfect CM 11 theme for our devices. What CM 11 themes have you been using? Let us know down in the comments below, and it’s possible that the theme will be featured in the next rendition.
If you have tried out, or decide to purchase any of the themes that you’ve seen here today, be sure to leave a rating on the Play Store, and let the developers know what you think.

Accessory of the Day: Galaxy Tab 4 protective case $9.99

I came across this offering for Samsung Galaxy Tab owners and couldn’t believe the price at first. This case for the Galaxy Tab 4 features easy installation with its snap-on design. The dual layer polycarbonate hardshell protects from drops and dings while the port covers keep out dust and dirt. Plus, the screen protector promises to keep your touch-functions silky smooth. The Unicorn Beetle line from SUPCASE has been very popular with our readers and this looks like another home run. With multiple color options, 5 star ratings, and priced at only $9.99 (Prime eligible) this is an absolute BUY.

Bono says he’s working with Apple on a new music format to fight piracy
Bono’s already inserted himself into everyone’s iPhones this week, but now he wants even more control over the way you enjoy music. The Irish singer says that he’s been working with Apple on a new audio format that’ll get people paying for music once again. In an interview with Time magazine, which won’t be published until September 29th, it’s said that the band has been working on a secret project that’s “so terribly exciting to music fans that it will tempt them again into buying music.” It’s all part of U2’s noble cause to see that songwriters and, especially, artists who can’t recoup lost earnings through live gigs – like U2 – are properly compensated for their labors. Of course, given Apple’s historic preference for secrecy, we can’t imagine it’ll be too pleased that Bono’s running his mouth off in public. Then again, it wouldn’t be the first time that a musician has blown one of Tim Cook’s future announcements.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 will land in the US on October 17
It seems like one giant smartphone has been getting all the attention lately, but one of its biggest rivals (literally) is finally set to touch down stateside. Samsung confirmed today that the Galaxy Note 4 will hit the US on October 17, and you can lay claim to yours starting tomorrow from all the usual carrier suspects. We’ve enjoyed our brief time getting to know the Note 4 and all the little improvements it brings to the table (hello, Quad HD screen!), but here’s the thing — the jury’s still out on whether Samsung has done enough with its newest S-Pen experiment to make it worth an immediate upgrade. As always, pricing will vary a bit depending on who you get your service though: a Note 4 with a bog-standard two year AT&T contract will set you back $299, while T-Mobile wants nothing upfront and monthly payments of $31.24 for the next 24 months. Alas, our friends across the pond will get a bit of a headstart on us – Notes will drop onto their store shelves a full week earlier.

Dice cuts the crap to change the way you buy concert tickets
While you might own every single release your favourite band has put out, nothing beats going to see them live. If that’s something you do regularly, you know that you’ll not only have to fight it out with any number of like-minded fans to get your ticket, but you’ll also have to run the gauntlet of booking via one of the major ticketing providers, which often includes submitting captchas, paying any number of booking fees or printing fees and running the risk that you won’t come away with what you actually wanted.
Dice wants to change that. Launching today after 18 months of development, Dice is 100 percent mobile, cutting all of the crap that traditional ticket sellers normally try to force upon you. You pay the ticket price, and that’s it. But how does it work? Once you’ve installed either the iOS or Android app, Dice will immediately load a full listing of gigs and concerts (over 100 at the time of launching) it has in its database. Currently, gigs are limited to London, but the company intends to embark on a global expansion in the coming months.
What you see is exactly what you’ll pay, so when you do, you’ll immediately be given an app-based e-ticket that will get you inside the venue with the minimum of fuss. If, for whatever reason, the gig has sold out or you came to the party too late, you can also choose to sit on a waiting list. While that might be the last thing you want to do, Dice has a very unique way of turning this to your advantage.

Firstly, venues and promoters have access to ticket sales (but not personal information), allowing them to gauge whether there’s enough demand to lay on a new tour date. Secondly, and this can’t be understated, it allows anyone who has bought a ticket and suddenly realised they’re not able to make the gig, to sell their ticket back to Dice, which in turn can then sell it to the first person in the waiting line. Those waiting will be alerted via text message or email, depending on their contact preference. It eliminates the need for secondary ticket sales, and it ensures music fans don’t pay over the odds to see their favourite musicians perform.
The app is a joint-venture between Phil Hutcheon, a music industry veteran who’s run record labels for over a decade, and ustwo, the insanely talented creative team behind smash hit puzzle game Monument Valley. Realising that 80 percent of people use a website to book tickets, they sought to create a mobile app that removed the friction from paying to see live acts. This is evident when you buy a ticket and you don’t have to waste time filling in your details, completing captchas or race to complete the purchase within a set amount of time. “It gets the ticket in the hand of the fan as quickly as possible,” says Hutcheon.
At launch, the majority of shows are for indie bands and musicians, but there are some big names there too. Jack White, Little Dragon, alt-j, Basement Jaxx, Bugged Out and Ministry of Sound are all present, filling arenas like the O2 and the Shepherds Bush Empire, but the Dice team also works hard to curate a list of more intimate gigs at local pubs and smaller venues to help users discover music they might never had heard before. It’s an intimate way of working that benefits artists as they’re able to get more people to come to their events, and venues are able to work closely with the team to allocate more tickets.

Because there are no hidden fees or booking charges, Dice offers customers up to 30 percent off the price of a show from a rival service. In fact, the more you use it, the app will begin to learn your musical tastes, delivering more relevant suggestions as time moves on. The idea, after all, isn’t to just sell you tickets for bands or musicians you’ve already seen, but to connect people with upcoming talent that could one day go on to do a global arena tour.
Hutcheon tells me that the Dice app you see today does exactly what it needs to do to launch, but that’s it. With investment and guidance from Google Deepmind, Robbie Williams’ management and many others, the company intends to make good on its promise to launch globally, but also introduce new features that help music fans get more from the app. This includes a new reservation feature that will let a user put aside a number of tickets for friends. The app will then email those people and invite them to pay for their own tickets, ensuring the organiser doesn’t go alone, but also isn’t left out of pocket (which has happened to this author in the past).
Future versions of the app may also include YouTube and Spotify playback, allowing users to get an idea of who they’re looking to see before they buy their ticket. It already has the functionality to handle 70,000 tickets per minute (meaning it could sell out Wembley Stadium in just 60 seconds), ensuring that it can handle significant demand when it needs to. Dice believes it has the potential to become the Uber of the music space, which may mean it moves to a freemium model in the future, but from what we’ve seen, it’s already off to a very good start.

Vimeo snags MST3k’s back catalog and exclusive access to future releases
If Vimeo’s determined to develop a pay-per-view streaming service, then the outfit is going about it in a rather strange way. The website has signed a deal with Mystery Science Theater 3000’s distributors to bring 80 “cleared” episodes to the site’s on-demand platform. Because of the myriad rights issues that surround the show, more than half of the episodes aren’t legally available. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you can’t find them if you’ve got some time, a lax attitude to intellectual property and don’t mind typing in phrases like mst3k.s08.e20 into YouTube. If, however, you’d prefer to get your stuff through legitimate channels, you’ll be able to rent each movie for $3, buy them for $10 or purchase the whole collection for a heavily-discounted $300.
But wait, there’s more! Because if you do splash out on the bulk purchase, you’ll also be given any future releases that come out between now and September 17th, 2016. That’s because the site has gained exclusive access to any future online releases, at least for the next year, which could total as many as 12 previously-unreleased movies. Of course, titles will remain on Netflix and Hulu (for now) as well as iTunes and Amazon Instant Video, so you’ve really not got any more reason to trot out that old quote about circulating tapes. Still, between this and distributing the Joss Whedon-written In Your Eyes, it’s clear that Vimeo’s executive team are geeks at heart.
