Apple’s Ultra-Slim 12-Inch Notebook Coming in Mid-2015 With Silver, Gold, and Space Gray Options?

With Apple’s Mac notebooks continuing to prove popular with consumers, the company has been rumored for some time to be working on a 12-inch notebook that could feature an ultra-slim form factor, Retina display, a new buttonless trackpad, and a fanless design. Rumors of such a machine have surfaced from several sources over the course of the past year, suggesting Apple has indeed been working on the device.

macbook_air_2014
While such a machine has yet to debut despite early rumors of a mid-2014 launch, perhaps due to continued delays with Intel’s next-generation Broadwell chips, a new report from Jack March of A Tech Website claims the machine remains in the works. According to the report, Apple appears to be targeting a mid-2015 launch for the machine and, most interestingly, the company is said be planning to offer it in the same silver, gold, and space gray colors used on its iPhone lineup.

The most fascinating part of this report is that Apple is also planning to change the colours for the first time with an Aluminium MacBook, the source says that Apple is planning to add Space Grey and Gold colours to their MacBook lineup, which would be consistent with the colours on the iPhone 6.

While the claim of multiple color options for this new notebook appears outlandish, MacRumors has reason to believe this information is correct and that Apple has at least considered launching the 12″ notebook with several different “special edition” color options.

The report notes that timing for release of the new notebook has shifted several times as Apple has continued development, with that uncertainty also reflected in a recent report from Digitimes pegging the timeframe at a wide open “end of 2014 or in 2015.”

Square Enix brings the orginal Dragon Quest to Android

Dragon Quest

The original Dragon Quest that started the franchise has been delivered to the Android world today. You might have more fond memories of what it was originally titled in the states, Dragon Warrior. No matter which name you know it is as, it is a classic that devoured many hours back in the old days of the NES.

Dragon QuestDragon QuestDragon QuestThis isn’t the first Dragon Quest title to grace Android. Square Enix also has Dragon Quest VIII and Dragon Quest IV available. However, this one actually comes in at a more normal price tag of just $2.99. The title brings the classic 8-bit JRPG game to Android devices sporting 2.3 or above. Square does offer a warning about Android 4.4 though, seems if ART is enabled on your device, you might have some issues playing.

The 2015 Winnebago Brave’s retro flair makes for one stylish roadtripper

At some point, you’ve likely encountered the iconic stylings of a Winnebago from the 60s and 70s. For the 2015 fleet, the company is looking to pay homage to those motorhomes by bringing back the “eyebrow” on the Brave. In addition to the the classic look of the camper’s exterior, the inside is loaded with tech. There’s a pair HDTVs (28 and 32-inch displays), digital TV antenna system and LED lighting throughout. In the event you find yourself with extra house, er… RV guests, a StudioLoft bunk bed and its powered lift can accommodate, and the vehicle’s GPS/rear-view mirror display slides across the dash so the co-pilot can dial in destinations. If you’re looking to hit the road, you may need to empty that piggy bank as the base model starts at $95,199.

Bang & Olufsen’s 85-inch 4K TV is competitively priced (for millionaires)

Bang & Olufsen advertised the Avant 55, its first 4K TV, with the phrase “the one that moves.” By the same logic, the Avant 85 should be titled “the, er, bigger one that also moves.” Naturally, the colossal set comes with the usual Danish video trickery, including three-channel stereo, the BeoRemote One universal remote control and direct-type LED with 2D local backlight dimming (nope, us neither). The Avant 85 is priced at an, ahem, “competitive” £16,595 (around $27,000), but if you want the thing to move as well, you’ll pay upwards of £1,095 (around $1,780) for the various motorized mounting brackets or stands

Is the new iPhone a threat to Android?

android_apple_720w

Every year, when Apple introduce their new iPhone to the world, everyone is asking the same question – Is it good enough to be a threat to Android? It’s one of the most complicated questions, but the answer to it in simple way is that Apple iOS 8 or even the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are definitely not a threat to Android, but why not?

When we talk about Android, we talk about all the OEM’s like Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC and many more. For a comparison, let’s look at the results of last year, when in Q3 2013, more than 250 million smartphones were sold and out of that number, more than 200 million phones were powered by Android. Even when the most competitive rival Apple and Samsung are compared to each other, Samsung sold around 80 million smartphones while Apple made it to 30 million smartphones only.

Yes, Apple new iPhone series might be a threat to the flagship Android smartphones, even TechRepublic thinks that Apple might give Android a run for their money, but I think otherwise. For example, they call the new design ‘elegant’ but I think they forgot when it is about elegance, there are devices like the HTC One M8, LG G3 and many others which are a symbol of elegance. They also mentioned about the mobile wallet and the wearable device, but on Android, we already got that.

We did a little comparison of iPhone 6 with Galaxy S5 and Note 4, and also of iPhone 6 Plus with One Plus One and Note 4. All the ‘magical’ features of the new iPhone 6, most of them are already available on different Android devices. Tim Cook told Wall Street Journal that he is expecting Android users to switch to iPhone, but that number will be nothing but just a small fraction in our opinion.

Ron Amadeo of Ars Technica also shared a comparison of iPhone 6 with the Nexus 4. Yes, Nexus 4 which was released in 2012, and you will be amazed to see that both smartphones have a lot of features in common.n4i6Android is leading the smartphone market with more than 85% share, so I think it’s safe to say that the new iPhone(s) will never be a threat to our beloved Android. The Android flagship smartphones will definitely face a tough time from it, but in the end, we all know who will win. Are you planning to switch to the new iPhone or you are happy with what you have right now? Let us know in the comment box below.

Their talk at the Android BBQ will focus on the inception of Android right through to the evolution of the platform to the wearable market.

What a great Keynote that is going to be for those lucky enough to be attending the Big Android BBQ.

HTC continues to shift apps to Play Store with HTC Lock Screen

I want to say Google was the one who first started to pull out system apps and putting them to the Play Store. I am probably wrong on that front, but it has been a long time. Manufacturers have been slowly, but surely, bringing core apps out of the main OS and placing them on the Play Store. With developers able to target specific devices, software versions and other aspects in a released app, it is becoming more and more common to see device and OEM specific apps more or less publicly available. HTC continues to migrate their deeply integrated apps out of the hardware OS and place them on the Play Store. The latest addition is the HTC lock screen app.

HTC Sense 6 Lockcreen 2HTC Sense 6 Lockcreen 2All of you with a HTC One M8 know all about this lockscreen. Those with other manufacturer devices don’t, and you won’t unless you buy an HTC device. Pushing the app out of the software to the Play Store will give HTC the ability to solve specific issues, implement new features and avoid lengthy update timelines due to carrier checks. The release doesn’t offer up anything fantastic with the only new item listed as a “Mechanism to prevent you from unintentionally triggering factory reset.” Apparently that has been an issue for people.

Any users out there install the app yet? Have you had any issues? The Play Store comments don’t seem to be very favorable at all.

Apple to Offer In-Store Pickup Option for iPhone 6 Pre-Orders

It appears that Apple will be allowing users to select “Personal Pickup” when placing iPhone 6 pre-orders, which means that users may be able to pick up their iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus at an Apple retail store on launch day, September 19, rather than waiting for it to be shipped to their homes.

Apple’s retail iPhone page suggests that in-store pickup will indeed be available, noting that users can have an iPhone shipped for free or pick it up in store.

iphone_6_iphone_6_plus

iPhone 6. Pre-order online starting September 12. The big day is coming. Pre-order iPhone 6 and have it shipped to you for free, or pick it up in store. You can also buy at the Apple Retail Store beginning at 8:00 a.m. on September 19.

9to5Mac has confirmed the information with several retail stores and an online chat representative, who told the site that there will be in-store pickup options available at “most stores” with the option existing “while supplies last.”

Though Apple did not offer in-store pickup for the iPhone 5s or the iPhone 5c, it has offered the option for pre-orders in the past. With the iPhone 4, for example, Apple accepted reservations for in-store pickup on launch day.

With that device launch, Apple had two separate lines outside of retail stores, one for those who were waiting in line to buy a device and one for those who had made a reservation during the pre-order period. It’s likely a Personal Pickup option for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus pre-orders will work similarly.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will begin at 12:01 AM Pacific Time tonight, with the device becoming available in retail stores on September 19.

Six models in a year: Samsung’s struggle to perfect the smartwatch

Can you name them all? It’s been merely a year since Samsung revealed its first smartwatch to the tech press crowds in IFA, Berlin. Then, roughly six months later, the company switched software — and, ugh, gear — with three new wearable models, the Gear 2, the (possibly most forgotten) Gear Neo and the fitness-oriented Gear Fit wearable. Now Apple’s shown off its (already divisive) offering, the race towards the definitive wearable is on. To its credit, Samsung continues to tweak, bend and experiment on each subsequent smartwatch, and appears to be taking on customer (and reviewer) feedback along the way. However, you’re likely still pissed if you were one of the few to plunk down cash for the company’s first attempt. Let’s start there. `
