Angry Birds Stella finally gets released to the Play Store
Rovio set the date and stuck to it, that is pretty nice to see. Back at the first part of August Rovio announced that the next variant of the Angry Birds franchise would be headed to the public on September 4th. Prior to that, we saw that it was in the works, that was back in February. Today is September 4th and here is Angry Birds Stella.
Stella is the pink bird that you might remember from Angry Birds Star Wars. Her power then was a bit annoying to me. The new iteration from Rovio brings you to Golden Island where you, as Stella, go on an adventure with your girls and beat down the bad pig princess. Angry Birds Stella delivers 120 new levels for you to battle your way through with various power-up options and abilities. Much like the last few titles though, it does offer in-app purchases. Mostly directed at buying coins to purchase more power-ups.
It also seems to offer no way to buy your way free of ads. Expect to see some pop-ups and banner ads along with a few video ads that you have nearly watch all of before you can move on. Stella will connect you to Google Play Games for leader boards and such, but if you want cloud save abilities, expect to sign in with Facebook as well.
While the game is more or less a new themed version, the graphics, new birds and abilities do make it a different experience. It is free, so you may as well give it a run if you are looking for something to take your mind of it being Thursday.

Samsung continues IFA dominance with rugged Galaxy Tab Active
Samsung introduced us to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and Galaxy S5 Active. In a nutshell they have been more rugged versions of the popular flagship devices. They aren’t always the pretty looking devices, but they are more so for the adventurer out there that loves tech, but breaks things often. Samsung seems to be taking the Active brand to a larger scale this year with a new tablet offering, the Galaxy Tab Active.
The Galaxy Tab Active certainly isn’t a powerhouse tablet, but for those needing more screen space in the job site without the boss worrying about it breaking, the Galaxy Tab Active could be a company choice.
Spec outline:
- 8-inch 1280×800 screen
- 1.2GHz quad-core processor
- 1.5GB of RAM
- 3.1MP rear camera w/ LED flash
- 16GB internal storage w/ SD card slot
- Removable 4450mAh battery (10 hours)
- POGO pin charging
- Android 4.4
- Stylus
- IP67 rated
The tablet is also said to be able to with stand drops of 1.2 meters, or about 4 feet. Samsung’s press release fails to offer up a sales date or price tag, Their press release is heavily geared towards B2B, so don’t expect to see this sitting around in a box at Wal-Mart. Samsung is targeting the needs of industries looking to incorporate more technology that is rugged and can handle the demands of the jobs, like field technicians, auto experts and others. That doesn’t mean they won’t bring one to consumers at some point though.

Looks like someone is in trouble, Moto 360 images surface online
Everyone that has impatiently been waiting for the Moto360 to finally make its appearance were sorely beaten today when they found out the event was a behind closed doors event for the press. The actual news of the Android Wear toting watch everyone wants is actually going to start going out tomorrow. What’s worse though, is that they aren’t even doing a live stream of the announcement, but they will do a live Hangout to show them off and answer questions. We know the Moto X +1, the Moto G, the Moto 360 and a small Bluetooth earbud are all on the list, so why stick to a simple email blast to the press? That is neither here nor there at the movement. The closed door event that is taking place today is supposed to have a NDA attachment with it. That is a non disclosure agreement. I don’t have the NDA in my hand, nor am I, or anyone else from AndroidSPIN, at the event. However, someone that was there decided to go ahead and push out some images through Wear Wizard.

You can see the main watch unit is sitting on a cradle with no strap attached. In all reality the watch is the most important part anyways. The blue coloring is just the protective plastic that is wrapped over the metal housing.
There are a couple more images over at the source site, Wear Wizard, if you want to see the the left and right sides and a frontal with the screen off (or a sleep). I know the images don’t show a whole heck of a lot, and they certainly don’t offer up links to buy it, but what are your thoughts?

Download the Sony Xperia Z3 wallpapers here now
You know we love wallpapers. And with so many fantastic new devices being released this week at IFA 2014, we can’t help but be excited for all the new and wonderful wallpapers to come from these devices. One of these is of course the Sony Xperia Z3, a device which is a nice iterative improvement over its predecessor, the Xperia Z2. The device might “only” have a 1080p display, but its included wallpapers look mighty fine; here’s a look at the Sony Xperia Z3 wallpapers:
This is just a snapshot of the available wallpapers; for all 35 of the wallpapers available on the Xperia Z3, download them from the link below:
Sony Xperia Z3 wallpapers .zip
We’ve seen some of these before on the Xperia Z2 – there are a few nice new ones, but it’s also a nice touch to include the older wallpapers for a sense of familiarity and continuity for loyal Sony owners. The Xperia Z3 makes good use of a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5GHz and all the bells and whistles we’ve come to expect. It’s also a pretty drop dead gorgeous device, doing away with the silver frame and making it the same colour as the rest of the device (in my opinion anyway).
What do you think about the Sony Xperia Z3 wallpapers?

The new Moto G gets a video and official page on Motorola website
Motorola seems to be on a roll today. Just as we thought the 4th might pass by without any Motorola related news, several videos dropped to show us Motorola’s latest products including the new Moto X, Moto 360 and Moto Hint. You can now add the new Moto G to that list as its video hit not long ago. Check it out below:
With that, it looks like Motorola has announced the 4 devices it has intended to release, coincidentally represented by the 4 rooms at the end of the video. Motorola has also just made live the product page for the new Moto G which divulges most of the juicier details. As many of us had expected, the new Moto G is going to have a 5-inch display, dual speakers, a quadcore 1.2GHz processor and what Motorola says is a “guaranteed [software] upgrade” from Android 4.4.4; with Motorola’s track record of super-timely updates, I think that’s probably an understatement. As with the outgoing Moto G, the new Moto G looks like it’s going to be great value again with models starting from less than $200, a sweet spot that saw the first Moto G become Motorola’s best selling smartphone so far.
What do you think about the new Moto G? Are you liking what you see so far? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Apple’s iWatch Pegged for 2015 Debut in Two Sizes With 8 GB Storage, Multiple Material Options
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a research note today with updated information on Apple’s rumored iWatch wearable device. Echoing earlier reports, Kuo believes Apple will unveil the iWatch at its upcoming September event, with sales starting in 2015. This early announcement would create a buzz about the product and provide developers with adequate time to prepare apps for this new device.
2.5-inch iWatch concept from SET Solution with curved, rectangular display
According to Kuo, the iWatch may have a rectangular design and will include 8GB of internal storage with 512MB LPDDR3. The wristwatch will be available in two screen sizes of 1.3 and 1.5-inches in order to accommodate different wrist sizes. Apple may use between two to four different casing materials, with aluminum and gold as two likely options.
The fact that wearable devices don’t need much memory explains our prediction of an 8GB version with 512MB built-in memory. We expect casing material to be of 2-4 different types, with aluminum the most likely as it has been widely used in Apple products. A gold casing option is also possible, to add a luxury image to the product. We believe iWatch will be rectangular in front/ panel side shape. And lastly, like some other wearable devices, we expect there to be a number of holes on the back side of the device that can be used to monitor users’ vital health signs such as heart rate.
Rumors have suggested the iWatch will include several sensors to monitor vital health statistics such as heart rate, sleep activity and more. The band likely will sync with the iPhone and integrate with iOS 8′s Health app, which will produce a comprehensive health profile using health and fitness data compiled from a variety of third-party sources.![]()

iPhone 6 May Lose Sapphire Display Cover, Gain 128 GB Storage Option
In a research note released today, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will be announced next week at Apple’s iPhone press event. Kuo believes Apple will stagger the launch with the 4.7-inch model arriving in mid-September and the 5.5-inch model following 5 to 10 weeks later.
Kuo believes both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models will face supply constraints at launch as demand likely will outpace Apple’s ability to manufacture the device. Labor shortages at Foxconn will impact the production of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, while the 5.5-inch faces an additional hurdle due to production issues with assembly and other components.
In line with earlier reports, Kuo says Apple will boost the internal storage of the iPhone to 128 GB. Both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models will ship with this higher capacity option. It is unclear whether Apple will add the 128 GB as a fourth storage option or drop the lower 16 GB model, selling the iPhone 6 only in 32, 64, and 128 GB capacities, although a 16 GB module has been seen on a leaked logic board and the earlier leaked schematic had referred to 16, 64, and 128 GB options..
Though he previously has stated select premium iPhone 6 handsets will ship with a sapphire glass option, Kuo, in this latest report, addresses the possibility of a sapphire cover, which he claims Apple is abandoning due to drop test issues. Kuo also claims the iPhone will have a programmable, side-mounted power button and an internal barometer sensor for navigation and health-related purposes.
Key spec forecasts – No sapphire cover lens, 128GB, built-in barometer pressure sensor & programmable power key
(1) Due to drop test issues, neither 4.7-inch nor 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will have a sapphire cover lens, we believe; (2) as Apple has strong bargaining power on NAND Flash price, and in a bid to meet the large capacity demand of consumers as well as to differentiate themselves from competing models, both 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will come with 128GB; (3) a built-in barometer can provide more indoor navigation applications and health-management applications relating to spirometry; and (4) we predict (discussed in an earlier report) that the power key will be moved from the upper position to the side. We now further predict that the power key could be programmable to be integrated with specific applications, giving more input options in addition to being a power switch.
Apple’s iPhone 6 event will be held on Tuesday, September 9 at the Flint Center in Cupertino, California. Besides the possibility of a 128GB model, Apple may also add a new A8 processor, an improved camera with image stabilization and an enhanced Touch ID to its next generation iPhone.![]()
