Sony Sirius Viv (D6503) is Verizon’s Sony Xperia Z2?

Earlier this month we saw a leaked Xperia Z2 Tablet with a Verizon logo; now we have a new leak on the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone for Verizon Wireless.
According to @evleaks the reason we have not seen this handset in the U.S. yet is due to the fact that this is a specific variant of the phone (LTE-Advanced). Reportedly, the device will come under the Sony Sirius Viv (D6503) name and it should arrive during the middle of next quarter.
Verizon customers: your wait for the Sony XPERIA Z2 will not have been in vain. The delay, if you want to call it that, is due to the fact that a very specific variant, one that supports LTE-Advanced, must wind its way through the certification and testing processes. Look for the Sony Sirius Viv (D6503) during the middle of next quarter.
Are you interested in either the Sony Xperia Z2 or the tablet variant of that phone?

LG company exec implies there will currently be no Nexus 6 from the Manufacturer
Word on the street is that the Nexus line is ending and that it will be replaced by a new line of devices that will come under the name of Android Silver. LG is one manufacturer who’s name who has been thrown around when talking about Android Silver, but we haven’t had much indication of whether either of these rumours are true. We might have gotten a big hint though from Ken Hong, Communications Director at LG, who has implied that there will be no Nexus 6 and said this regarding whether Google has contacted LG about making a Nexus device this year:
“I know at least not yet. Normally we were informed… That can mean two things. Either I got ignored, or we won’t be making [the Nexus 6]“
While it’s not a straight up “no”, it would be unusual for LG not to know by now whether they are making the next Nexus device. That’s not to say that they still won’t, but the evidence is mounting that Android Silver is going to be the flavour of devices coming from Google from now on.
What do you think about what Ken Hong has had to say about the Nexus 6? Do you think we will see a Nexus 6 before Android Silver comes into play? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Apple Cuts Prices on Mac Mini and Apple TV in Europe, iMac in UK
On the same day it launched a new entry-level iMac model, Apple also used the downtime to adjust the prices on other hardware in some European markets. The price cuts we’ve noticed affect European models of the Mac mini, the European Apple TV and iMac models in the UK.
Pricing on the Mac mini dropped between €30 and €60, depending on the country and model. Most European stores are now offering the entry-level Mac Mini for €619 with the quad-core and OS X server models selling for €819 and €1019, respectively, although some euro countries such as Germany are showing slightly lower pricing of €599/€799/€999. In the UK, the entry-level Mac Mini remains the same at £499, with price drops between €30 and €50 being applied to the quad-core and server models.
Apple also cut the prices on the Apple TV in Europe, reducing the cost by €10/£20. The once €109/£99 media streaming device is now available for €99/£79 throughout most of Apple’s European stores. While Europe saw a reduction, the Apple TV price remains the same in the US at $99.
Along with the new entry-level 21.5-inch iMac, Apple UK also lowered the cost of existing iMac models. The existing 21.5-inch models were lowered by £100, while the 27-inch models saw similar reductions of £150. The reduction appears to limited only to the UK with most of Europe and the US still selling the iMac at its original pricing.![]()
Fleksy brings a predictive messaging app to the Gear 2 smartwatch
Fleksy’s already brought its intuitive touch keyboard to the Galaxy Gear, but now Samsung’s smartwatches all run Tizen, it needed an upgrade to operate on the phone maker’s own OS. That’s exactly what the company has done with the release of a new messaging app for the Gear 2 smartwatch, which delivers a diminutive yet fully-featured predictive keyboard capable of accessing your SMS conversations and contacts. As a dedicated messaging app, it also handles all of the heavy lifting, letting you send and receive messages directly from your wrist. In order to operate, the app syncs with your Samsung smartphone, which Fleksy says “integrates all information from both devices.” There’s no word on whether you’ll be able to load Fleksy Messenger on the original Gear, but it is now available as a free download from Samsung Apps. Hopefully an enterprising developer will port it over.
Apple TV price slashed to £79 in the UK
Apple today introduced a new, cheaper iMac, but that wasn’t the only update it made to its online store. In a move that will do nothing to dampen speculation of a new Apple TV, the company has slashed £20/€10 off the cost of its streaming set-top box in the UK and Europe. That means you can now pick up an Apple TV for £79 in the UK and €99 elsewhere on the continent. The reduction brings Apple’s Store in line with prices we’d seen from third-party retailers like Amazon but also rival streamers like the Roku 3.

Get a bit more organized using a Terrain Home launcher [App of the Day]

There are a lot of launchers in the Android space that you can choose from. Some of the most popular ones are Nova, Smart Launcher, Aviate and Action Launcher. Each of these is unique in its own way, as is the one we’re going to talk about today, Terrain Home: Sidebar & Search.
Terrain Home comes from Samsung’s Accelerator division which is an innovation center. This launcher is somewhat unique and quite productive. When you launch it and get through the tutorial you’ll be greeted with the start screen that looks like any other Android launcher. There are 3 white icons on it that will probably catch your attention though, sidebar, search and apps. This is where Terrain Home gets different and kind of cool. You can click on each icon to launch a certain action or just swipe away to do it. If you swipe from left to right you’ll access the sidebar feature, the other way around will get you to an alphabetical list of your apps and if you swipe up you’ll get to search feature.
Sidebar is the most useful out of the bunch, in our opinion at least. It resembles Google Now when it comes to the design. You’ll find a bunch of white cards here which you can set up the way you want, from your favorite contacts and Facebook feed to weather and stock information. There are a lot of options you can fit here and that’s what makes it so useful.
Search feature is also rather useful, considering you can swipe up and search away whether you want to find something locally on your phone or online.
You can get Terrain Home from Google Play as we speak, although note that the launcher is still in beta so there might be some glitches along the way, although it worked rather well in our testing. This app is also geographically limited at the moment, so it might not be available on your location, but it seems that it has a rather wide range of availability even though there’s no precise information on this thus far.

Fleksy keyboard launches Messenger App for Samsung Gear 2 Smartwatch

One of our long-time favorite keyboards is making it’s way to the Gear 2.
Although many would say that a wristwatch is no place for a virtual keyboard, that doesn’t stop Fleksy, one of the most innovative Android keyboard companies to date. Today they’re announcing a new Messenger App that allows users to respond to text messages/emails/etc. directly from their wrist.
The biggest challenge when making a keyboard for a 1.5″ screen is the input quality. Anyone can sit there and try to type as much as they want, but not all keyboards have the prediction software to follow through.
Fleksy’s founder/COO, Ioannis Verdelis, explains,
While the keyboard race is heating up, Fleksy’s next generation technology is the first to actually make typing comfortable on all types of devices. We are redefining the use case for wearable tech, and the accuracy of Fleksy on a watch really has to be seen to be believed. We are also now firmly a multi-platform keyboard, having had presence on iOS since 2012, on Android since 2013, and now on Tizen too!
Though we personally have yet to try the new app, we’re confident in Fleksy’s prediction technology that it won’t be a total trainwreck. If you’d like to try out Fleksy for yourself, head over to the Play Store for your free trial. You’ll be glad you did!

Fleksy is the world’s leading solution for quick and accurate typing, and its patent pending technology has been highly anticipated by the world of wearable technology.
Now with the Fleksy Messenger app, Gear users can use Fleksy’s unmatched technology to send SMS messages straight from their wrists, forever improving their typing experience. The Fleksy app is the first keyboard to integrate with the Samsung Gear 2, allowing users to access previous conversation threads and contacts, receive SMS messages and reply to them straight from their wrist. The Fleksy app syncs with the user’s Smartphone, integrating all information from both devices—all using award-winning technology that makes typing on small devices a breeze.
Founder and COO of Fleksy, Ioannis Verdelis said: “We are excited to have worked with the support of the Samsung Gear team to bring an awesome new app to the Gear ecosystem and Tizen OS. Our unique technology is redefining what wearable technology devices are capable of, and how users will engage with their Smartwatches.”
Fleksy’s patent pending technology is uniquely positioned for wearable devices, designed to help Smartwatch users more easily and accurately reply to text messages. Typing within such a small area can be a challenge, but Fleksy’s sleek design and unparalleled prediction engine makes it virtually effortless. This is one of the first steps in the direction of enabling Fleksy on all smart devices—regardless of their size, shape, and form factor.
The Fleksy Messenger App is available for free download today from Samsung Apps.
“It’s exciting to be expanding to devices like the Samsung Gear, and we’re confident that Fleksy will continue to grow as the leading keyboard for smart and connected devices. We want every owner of a smart device—Smartwatches included—to have access to Fleksy, and to enjoy a happy typing experience.” said Kosta Eleftheriou, Founder and CEO of Fleksy.

Wireless label maker is a boon for cable-hating office supply fetishists
For some just the phrase “P-touch” elicits feelings of organizational euphoria. We get that label makers aren’t exactly the sexiest gadgets in the world, but like ever other gadget there is a need to evolve. Brother took the obvious route and just crammed a wireless radio into the PT-P750W. Under the hood is a WiFi radio that multiple computers, phones and tablets can connect to and, since you have the option of powering it with batteries (either 6 AAs or a rechargeable lithium ion pack), you can even use it while travelling. Even set up is painfully simple since there’s an NFC pad at the top that will automatically connect your phone to it. Obviously, it takes a certain kind of person to spend $130 on a label maker, but there are more enough people out there with a fetish for organization. And, if we’re being honest, there might be a few of them on staff here.

Apple unveils a lower-cost iMac starting at $1,099
If you’ve felt that the iMac’s baseline $1,299 price was too high, you’re in luck… to a degree. Apple has unveiled a new 21-inch iMac that lowers the cost of entry to a more palatable $1,099 (£899 in the UK). As you’d expect, though, there are a few catches involved in saving that much cash. To start with, you’re getting the same low-voltage, 1.4GHz Core i5 processor that you find in the MacBook Air — this isn’t a powerhouse by any stretch. You’ll also have to make do with a 500GB hard disk, although you can spring for 1TB disks (including a Fusion Drive) or a 256GB solid-state drive. The move isn’t going to please those who were hoping for a full refresh of the iMac line, but that may not happen until Intel launches desktop-class Broadwell processors. This system will mostly be appealing to schools and anyone else who wants a complete Apple desktop for the lowest price possible.

US Navy wants to blast enemy drones with Humvee-mounted laser cannons
Mounting laser weapons on a Humvee to shoot down drones might seem like a military pipe dream, but the US Navy has now awarded contracts for just that. It figures that unfriendly armies will soon be equipped with inexpensive camera- or bomb-equipped UAVs, and wants a highly portable way to counter them. Though its 50kW ADAM HEL laser is powerful enough to down most drones by firing 50 laser bursts in a millisecond, the mounting platform for that weapon is a battleship. The Navy’s confident that more efficient 30kW lasers could still do the job, however, and given recent progress, shrunk down enough to fit on a Hummer. It will trial a 10kW system against targets later this year as a step toward the 30kW system, which it hopes will be test-ready by 2016. Meanwhile, watch the ADAM laser destroy hapless drones, missiles and boats in the videos below.
