Leaked image exposes the full body of the Xiaomi Mi 5

Xiaomi_Mi5_leaked_image_front_122415

Xiaomi Mi 5 leaks have been off the charts the past few days, and today we have a glimpse of yet another one. This leak reveals an actual image of the Xiaomi Mi 5.

According to the leaked image, the Xiaomi Mi 5’s design will be mainly made of metal. It will have extremely thin bezels on the sides and include a tactile home button at the front. The home button will also house a fingerprint scanner. A USB Type C port looks to be at the bottom of the device for charging, but it’s a little unclear due to the angle the shot was taken from. The Mi 5 also contains two speaker grills located at the bottom of device.

In addition to the leaked photo, we also have bits and pieces from the Mi 5’s design patent. You can check them out in the gallery down below.

Xiaomi Mi5 specs, images and pricing info leak

xiaomi-mi-4i-8

Xiaomi Mi 5 rumors are going full force as we approach the new year. The Chinese startup is certainly not planning to stay behind, and the latest leak seems to prove there will be plenty to like about the new phone. Today we are looking at a new set of rumored specs, pricing info and a reder of what could be the Xiaomi Mi 5. Shall we take a look?

Render

/* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Let’s start by taking a look at this leaked press render. As we can see, it does look a bit different from the previous image we have seen, but it still follows Huawei’s general design language. The metal frame with chamfered edges is certainly a look we are getting used to (and works very well). Glass adorns the front and back elegantly. The only main difference we can find is that the fingerprint reader is more elongated, as opposed to the square shape we had seen in the past.

Oh, and yes, that is a USB Type-C port you see on the bottom.

Rumored Xiaomi Mi 5 specs:

  • 5.2-inch display with either FHD or QHD resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor
  • 3/4 GB of RAM
  • 32/64 GB of internal storage
  • 16 MP rear-facing camera
  • 13 MP front-facing camera
  • USB Type-C with Quick Charge 3.0
  • 3600 mAh battery

The specs do go (mostly) in line with previous rumors. Main doubts still surround the battery and screen, though. We will just have to keep waiting for more details to arise.

Pricing

The Xiaomi Mi 5 has the specs and design to compete with the very best – does that mean it will cost as much as its competitors? Definitely not. Xiaomi is known for setting the standard on the bang-for-buck race. You can expect a relatively low price, something the latest sources do corroborate.

The latest pricing rumors on the Xiaomi Mi 5 say the version with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage will go for only 1,999 yuan, which currently equals to about $309 USD. Getting the bigger guy with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage will cost you 2,299 Yuan, which is only a bit more ($355 USD).

Wrapping up

Famous analyst Pan Jiutang says he expects to see the Xiaomi Mi 5 unveiled in January, 2016. Is this to hold true? We don’t know, but plenty of fans are already awaiting the upcoming phone’s arrival. We will certainly be here giving you all the details as soon as they emerge, so as always, keep it tuned to Android Authority.

Are any of you looking to get the Xiaomi Mi 5? At that price and with those specs, I can’t see who wouldn’t like this phone.

Xiaomi’s Mi 5 leaks with full render and hardware specs

xiaomi mi 5Xioami’s Mi 5 smartphone has leaked ahead of an official announcement, and there’s not much left to the imagination after this one. Renders of the device show the front of the phone and the bottom side with charging ports and speakers, and we’ve got a full rundown on hardware onboard, too. The only thing we haven’t seen is the back of the device.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a 5.2-inch display of either full HD or QHD resolution, a powerful Snapdragon 820 CPU, 3/4 GB of RAM and 32/64 GB of storage, depending on which option you opt for, and a 16 megapixel rear camera paired with a 13 megapixel front-facing camera. The home button of the device also doubles as a fingerprint scanner, which will supposedly be one of the fastest sensors on the market.

The device uses a USB type C charging port and has a non-removable battery, and will run Android 6.0 with Xiaomi’s UI on top.

Supposedly, the 3 GB RAM/32 GB storage option will run 1,999 Yuan, or $308, while the 4/64 GB option will cost 2,229 Yuan, close to $354. As always, Xiaomi is pricing this thing very aggressively.

Pink color variant of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 is now up for sale

Xiaomi_Mi_Pad_2 (15)

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 has been out since last month but has only been available in gold and silver. Now, a pink version of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 is up for purchase via the company’s website.

The new pink-colored version contains all the same specifications found in the original gold and silver Mi Pad 2 models. The tablet is one of the hottest sellers in China and can be purchased for RMB 999 or approximately $189 (16GB model). Specs are mostly mid-range keeping the price from high heights. If you’re in the market for such a tablet, and you love the color pink, this tablet is meant for you. Unfortunately, if you live outside China there’s no telling whether the newly colored handset will make it to your location, but there’s still hope. You can find all the details at the link to the company’s website down below.

Xiaomi’s YI Home Camera now available for purchase on Amazon

Xiaomi YI Home CameraEarlier this month, Xiaomi partnered with Amazon to sell their YI Action Camera in the US. Apparently, that deal has gone pretty well for both companies, as Xiaomi is now also selling the YI Home Camera on Amazon, too.

The Home Camera is obviously a little different than the Action Camera, as its designed to sit in one place and act more like a monitor and less like a camcorder. The feature list on it is just as impressive, though, offering infrared night vision, full 720p video capture, 4x digital zoom, and the ability to stream directly to your smartphone. If you’re interested in using it as a security device, it also supports notifications when detecting movement. It also stores everything locally on an SD card, so it’s an extremely secure solution with no subscription fees to use it.

Xiaomi YI Home Camera 2

At just $59, this little guy looks like it offers a fantastic connected camera for your home. It’s cheaper than many alternatives and won’t cost you anything past the initial setup, and you can even get it shipped to your house by Christmas if you order it now.

Be sure to check out the companion app for it, too.

Xiaomi chairman says he isn’t worried about flagging sales

xiaomi ceo lei jun Fortune

Today, Xiaomi’s chief executive Lei Jun downplayed the company’s failure to hit the 80 million smartphone sales he estimated they would sell in 2015. The prediction was made in March on the heels of an incredible 2014 sales year, and Xiaomi was still moving smartphones like hotcakes well into the second quarter of this year. Now, with only a few weeks left in 2015, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is coming up short on their mark, and it looks like they aren’t going to hit it in time.

What happened here? Xiaomi was rocking the smartphone market with innovative sales techniques and fiercely competitive prices. The five year old company sold 18.7 million devices in 2013, then exploded to 61.1 million sales in 2014. It would seem like 80 million in 2015 is a reasonable – even modest – projection for this year. They already sold 34.7 million devices by July 2015, so with Singles Day and holiday sales boosts, the figure seemed well within reach even just a few months ago. Where did they go wrong?

It seems like Xiaomi might have been too good at its own job. The Chinese market has been prime real estate to push out low-cost smartphones to first-time buyers over the last five years, but now it looks like they’ve saturated the market. To make matters worse, competitors like Huawei and Lenovo have upped their advertising game. The old boys saw what Xiaomi, the plucky startup company, was doing with their flash sales and viral marketing, and they started copying their techniques.

xiaomi mi 5 leaked render home buttonSee also: Alleged Xiaomi Mi 5 render leaked, shows physical home button13

Nevertheless, Lei Jun says he isn’t worried about the company not hitting their smartphone sales target saying, “What we care about the most is the rate of customer satisfaction.” He also said that he hadn’t really wanted to make an estimate for sales this year, perhaps anticipating this shift in the market. He claims he was “constantly pushed by everyone” to give a figure and seems to have reluctantly come up with the 80 million smartphone mark in spite of the shakier sales landscape of 2015.

mi_band_1s_xiaomi

Since China’s smartphone market has slowed down, Xiaomi is now looking to expand their products line to include other electronic gadgets (such as electric scooters) and they are attempting to increase their overseas presence. Lei claims that Xiaomi “needs to return to our original aspiration, to be like a startup. We need to be more persistent in building a good user experience and product.” Lei reiterated that what makes Xiaomi special is that its “entire management principle” is to do away with traditional performance indicators and targets.

In spite of their drooping sales, Xiaomi remains one of the largest smartphone makers in the world, fiercely competing with Samsung, Apple, Huawei, and Lenovo on an increasingly global scale. Whether the young company will have as much success overseas as they’ve had in China remains to be seen, but the future still looks bright for Xiaomi.

What do you think of Lei’s take on the situation? Is this just corporate-speak trying to put a positive spin on a bad omen, or is it an earnest portrait of Xiaomi’s ideology? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Xiaomi Mi5 gets mistakenly listed on Oppomart for $599, reveals full spec sheet

xiaomi_logo_corporate_office

Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi5 handset is set to make its debut on January 21st, however the device was just listed on Oppomart revealing all its hardware specifications.

Based on the listing, the Xiaomi Mi5 will include a 5.5-inch QuadHD display and will run Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon 820 64-bit octa-core processor which will be clocked at 2.5GHz. Other specs include 4GB of DDR4 RAM, a 20MP rear-facing camera, an 8MP front-facing camera, a 3,800mAh battery, and up to a whopping 128GB of internal storage. It will also contain global 4G LTE-FDD bands. This sounds like a pretty specked-out phone if you ask me. Pricing on Oppomart begins at $599, and reads “out of stock,” considering the phone is yet to launch.

Anyone interested?
