Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 to have a metal unibody design, rumor says

Xiaomi-Mi-Pad-2-leak

A new render has been posted to Chinese social networking platform Weibo, showing off the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 in its full form. Not only does the device have a metal unibody in tow, but it also seems to have a new design this time around.

As expected, little has been altered on the front side of the device (there’s only so much you can do to make it unique), but the back is featuring a new silver color tone. Not only that, but you can clearly see the new rounded corners and the metal chassis, almost reminiscent of some of the new iPads.

Xiaomi has a hardware event coming up on November 24, where we’ll no doubt hear more about this upcoming tablet. In the meantime, it’s rumored to sport a 7.9-inch display, an Intel Atom x5 chipset, 2GB of RAM, and Android 5.1. There are also some rumors floating around, indicating that the device could potentially dual-boot Windows 10 as well.

We’re only four days away from Xiaomi’s event, so there’s not much longer to wait to see what’s up with the Mi Pad 2. Anyone excited?

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro will include a fingerprint sensor and launch on November 24

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 ProXiaomi is planning on launching new hardware on November 24, and we are betting that it will be the Redmi Note 2 Pro. We believe this because Xiaomi has recently shared some photos of the Redmi Note 2 Pro featuring a fingerprint sensor.

This would be Xiaomi’s first phone to include a fingerprint reader and all-metallic chassis. The rumours are it will feature a 5-inch 1080 display, MediaTek Helio X10 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 13MP camera, 5MP front camera, and a 3,060mAh battery.

No word on what Android version it will ship with, but we would imagine Android 6.0 due to the fingerprint sensor.

Xiaomi teaser shows off Redmi Note 2 Pro’s rear fingerprint scanner

teaser-note-2-pro

The Redmi Note 2 Pro has appeared in numerous leaks and rumors as of late, but it was earlier this week that we finally learned when the handset would be made official. Xiaomi has scheduled a special launch event for November 24th, and while they don’t specifically say what they are going to unveil, it’s pretty easy to connect the dots.

Don’t want to wait that long to get a better look at what’s next from Xiaomi? You don’t have to, as the Chinese OEM has now posted a teaser image of the upcoming device to the social network Weibo. As you can see in the image, the Note 2 Pro offers a more premium aesthetic than past devices from the handset maker. Not only does the phone appear to have an all-metal chassis, it also sports a fingerprint scanner. Both of these things are firsts for Xiaomi.

As for what’s under the chassis? The handset is expected to offer essentially the same specs as the Note 2, including a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a MediaTek Helio X10 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 13MP main cam, 5MP front cam, and a 3060 Ah battery. Rumors pin the price tag at around $175, which is pretty decent for the specs and build quality here.

Of course it goes without saying that the Note 2 Pro won’t be available officially for much of the western world. For those that are in a region that Xiaomi operates, what do you think of this handset – interested in picking it up?

Rumors regarding launches have surrounded all three of those devices for many months. But the wait could finally be over for one or more of them in just a few days.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 2 Pro expected to launch November 24

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2-7

The launch of Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 2 Pro is imminent. So far we’ve heard an abundance of specification and design rumors, and we even recently saw the upcoming handset pass through China’s TENAA a few days ago. Now we’re getting yet another form of speculation, this time in the form of a teaser image posted to Xiaomi’s Weibo account.

The teaser image features the words ‘Grand Finale’ in Chinese at the top, as well as a launch date of Tuesday, November 24th at the bottom. The festivities are scheduled to take place at the Beijing National Convention Center, according to My Drivers. It should be noted that the image doesn’t specifically mention the Redmi Note 2 Pro, though we’re still pretty certain that the teaser image is referencing the rumored device.

xiaomi_redmi_note_2_pro_teaser_weibo

The Redmi Note 2 Pro will feature a smooth metal body design with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is a first for Xiaomi. It will weigh approximately 165 grams compared to the Redmi Note 2’s 160 grams. It will also feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795) processor, 2GB of RAM, 16 gigabytes of on-board storage, a 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera and a big 3060mAh battery. These may not seem quite like “pro” specifications at first glance, but for a rumored price of around just $172, we’d say the phone will be well worth it.

We’ll be sure to update you as we learn more about this new device.

Benchmarks for Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 reveals it uses an Intel Atom x5 chip

xiaomi-1

Many have been wondering when the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 will launch, and what specs it might have inside it? Today, some benchmarks may have revealed a few answers.

The last Mi Pad used a Tegra K1 chip, but it’s interesting to learn that Xiaomi has gone with an Intel chip for the Mi Pad 2. The Geekbench test shows an Intel Atom x5 chip will be powering the new Chinese iPad mini clone. However, what makes this really weird is the Intel chip’s numbers are less powerful than the older Tegra K1 chip, scoring roughly 1,000 on a single-core and 3,200+ with multi-cores.

We still aren’t sure exactly when the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 will launch, but hopefully they will work on optimizing the software and hardware to boost these scores before it does.

Also, the Mi Pad 2 will feature a 7.9-inch display, 2GB of RAM, and will be running Android 5.1 Lollipop. However, there have been some rumours that there may be a Windows 10 alternative or possibly a dual-boot option too.

Metal Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro spotted at TENAA

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro TENAA

A Redmi Note 2 Pro handset has just been spotted passing through China’s TENAA, which looks set to be Xiaomi’s successor to the Redmi Note 2 that launched earlier in the year. This handset has been rumored to be heading to market for a while now, and the arrival at TENAA suggests that the time could be nearing.

Xiaomi handsets:

The smartphone again looks to ship with a smooth metal body design and there appears to be space for a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone, a first for Xiaomi. This metal casing seems to add a little weight and thickness to the handset though, coming in at 165g compared to the original 160g.

The listing also gives us a look at the Pro’s hardware specifications. They appear to be be the same as the 5.5-inch 1080p Redmi Note 2, so the handset will come with a MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795) SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage space, a 3060mAh battery and a 13 megapixel rear 5 megapixel front camera combination.

We don’t have a launch date or price tag for the Redmi Note 2 Pro yet, but it is likely to cost slightly more than its predecessor. We can probably expect something in the region of 1,099 Yuan ($172) for the Pro variant, compared with 999 Yuan ($158) for the regular Note 2.

Amid royalty dispute with Qualcomm, Xiaomi Mi5 may pack MediaTek SoC

xiaomi_mi5_rumor_071415

A new leak has claimed that Xiaomi’s new flagship phone – the Mi5 – will feature a MediaTek processor instead of the Snapdragon one, which was earlier rumored to power the device. A few weeks ago, we even saw the Mi5 benchmarked on the GeekBench database with the Snapdragon 820 SoC onboard.

But a new report has claimed that Xiaomi may have changed its mind about using Qualcomm’s latest chipset over royalty dispute with the company. Apparently, Qualcomm is not too happy with the royalty fees that Xiaomi is offering. And Xiaomi is known to keep the production costs to the minimum in order to keep the final price of the device as low as possible.

Rumors suggest that the royalty dispute with Qualcomm has forced Xiaomi to bring MediaTek on board. So far, we have only come across Mi5 prototypes featuring Snapdragon 820 but that may change soon if the budget mobile manufacturer fails to reach a truce with Qualcomm.

If that doesn’t materializes, Xiaomi may still sell some devices featuring Qualcomm’s chipset (because it won’t be feasible to scrap a whole new batch) and pack new handsets with MediaTek processors.

The report further states that Xiaomi may not be the only company to find itself on a collision coarse with Qualcomm. Lenovo could find itself in a similar situation soon.
