Announced at CES last week, the waterproof handset features a 20.7-megapixel camera with BIONZ mobile image processing engine and G Lens. The 5-inch screen, which is definitely a looker,  is a full 1080p HD TRILUMINOS Display with X-Reality.

Pricing is listed at $0 down with 24 equal payments of $22 when paired with a Simple Choice Plan, for a total of $528. For a limited time, customers can earn a $100 Visa gift card if they purchase the Xperia Z1S and a PlayStation 4.

T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z1s with its 20.7 MP Camera Now Available

T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z1sSony announced that the new Xperia Z1S would be coming to T-Mobile exclusively, but somewhere I missed the part where it would be up for order today. Checking out the T-Mobile site this evening for something totally unrelated I stumbled upon the next Xperia Z device to be on the T-Mobile network. It is only available online until its official launch in stores January 22nd. Price wise, you are looking at $528 full price or monthly payments of $22 with $0 down. Assuming you are approved of course.

What does the Xperia Z1S offer? A heck of a lot.

Sony Xperia Z1S Spec outline

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor at 2.2 GHz
  • 3000 mAh Battery (15 hours talk, 600 hours standby)
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 32GB ROM
  • Expandable to 64GB via micro SD card slot
  • 5-inch screen at 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • 1080 HD video recording
  • 20.7MP camera
  • 4G LTE
  • All on Android 4.3

While I would prefer Android 4.4 to be preinstalled, it shouldn’t be to far off. Add in that the device is waterproof like its predecessors and includes a MHL adapter in the box and you have a pretty killer device for just $22 a month.

Heck, I just looked up to see what my original Xperia Z is worth for trade in, $250 is pretty good. I wonder what I still owe on it?

With T-Mobiles recent announcement to pay you for your old device and buyout your contract, anyone thinking of switching for the Xperia Z1S? Maybe you are shooting for the LG G-Flex or possibly holding out for the Samsung Galaxy S5?

Head over to T-Mobile.com to check out the Xperia Z1S

Sprint abandons its ‘One Up’ early upgrade plan after just a few months

It appears Sprint’s answer to T-Mobile’s UnCarrier campaign hasn’t been quite the success the company hoped it would be. Less than four months after it announced its “One Up” early upgrade plan, Big Yellow began phasing out the tariff from January 9th and is now directing online customers to its new “Framily” plan instead. With Framily, Sprint is attempting to drive down the cost of friends and family plans by rewarding customers with lower monthly fees for each additional person they add (up to 10) to a single account. The One Up plan, however, was specifically designed to reduce the cost of upgrading to a brand-new smartphone every year. Sprint has yet to indicate whether its Framily plan is a direct replacement for One Up or whether we can expect a reinvention of the early upgrade plan in the future — we’ve asked Sprint what it plans to do next and will update you should we receive a response.

T-Mobile Unleashes UNCarrier 4.0 and Will Pay Your Early Termination Fees

tmobile-uncarrier4

Just in case you didn’t hear the news from the T-Mobile UNCarrier live event at CES yesterday; T-Mobile decided they wanted to change the carrier game once again. They will generously pay your termination fees if you decide to make the leap from Sprint, AT&T, or Verizon, for each of the lines you have on your plan. I’m sure that is a no-brainer right there for most of you to jump on the T-Mobile boat, but just in case you want to read further details, check out the press release below.

T-Mobile Delivers Contract Freedom for Families By Paying Off Early Termination Fees

Company marks 1st anniversary of Un-carrier revolution by offering to reimburse entire amount of customers’ early termination fees when they switch from AT&T, Sprint or Verizon

LAS VEGAS – Jan. 8, 2014 – One year ago at International CES, T-Mobile US, Inc. (NYSE: TMUS) threw down the gauntlet, promising relief for customers fed up with a broken, arrogant wireless industry. Since then, the company has delivered on its promise with a relentless barrage of Un-carrier industry innovations.

In its latest move, T-Mobile is eliminating one of the last remaining obstacles for individuals and families wanting to switch from AT&T, Sprint or Verizon to the Un-carrier by offering to pay off their early termination fees. With an eligible phone trade-in, the total value of the offer to switch to T-Mobile could be as high as $650 per line.

“We’re giving families a ‘Get Out of Jail Free Card,’ said John Legere, president and chief executive officer of T-Mobile. “Carriers have counted on staggered contract end dates and hefty early termination fees to keep people bound to them forever. But now families can switch to T-Mobile without paying a single red cent to leave them behind.”

Customers have been flocking to T-Mobile for its no annual service contract Simple Choice Plan, industry-leading JUMP!(TM) upgrade program, unlimited global data at no extra charge in 100-plus countries, and most recently for Free Data for Life on every tablet – up to 200 MB of free 4G LTE data every month for as long as they own their tablet and use the registered device with T-Mobile. But Nielsen research suggests up to 40 percent[i] of families hold back from switching because of high early termination fees (ETFs), and a recent online poll conducted by GigaOM suggests that 78 percent[ii] would switch to T-Mobile if their ETF was paid. ETFs can cost as much as $350 per line. Multiply that two, three or four times for a family, and switching becomes an extremely expensive proposition.

“Carriers like to make you think you’re just signing up for two years with their family plans, but with staggered expiration dates and early termination fees, they’re really locking you in forever,” said Mike Sievert, chief marketing officer for T-Mobile. “Now, families are free to switch without worrying about early termination fees. And by switching to T-Mobile, a family of four can save $1,880 over two years compared to an AT&T shared family plan[iii].”
Here’s how T-Mobile’s offer to pay off these fees works:

Starting tomorrow, customers from the three major national carriers who hand in their eligible devices at any participating T-Mobile location and switch to a postpaid Simple Choice Plan can receive an instant credit, based on the value of their phone, of up to $300. They then purchase any eligible device, including T-Mobile’s most popular smartphones, now priced at $0 down (plus 24 monthly device payments, for well-qualified customers). After customers get the final bill from their old carrier (showing their early termination fees), they either mail it to T-Mobile or upload it to http://www.switch2tmobile.com. T-Mobile then sends an additional payment equal to those fees, up to $350 per line. Trade-in of their old phone, purchase of a new T-Mobile phone and porting of their phone number to T-Mobile are required to qualify.

This offer to pay early termination fees provides families with a quick way to escape carrier contracts that have deterred them from pursuing a better and more affordable wireless experience with T-Mobile.

T-Mobile is also making it easier for its longtime customers to migrate to Simple Choice plans as well without incurring any migration fees. To qualify for this option a current customer under contract trades in their current device and purchases a new T-Mobile device and switches to Simple Choice. In addition to waiving the migration fee, T-Mobile will also eliminate the existing annual service contract for that customer’s line.

With a Simple Choice Plan from T-Mobile, families start with one line at $50 per month for unlimited talk, text and Web with up to 500 MB of 4G LTE data. They can add a second phone line for $30 per month, and each additional line is just $10 per month. In short, a family could get four lines for just $100 per month (plus taxes and fees). The potential savings are so significant that if every single AT&T, Sprint and Verizon customer switched to a Simple Choice Plan, T-Mobile estimates they would save up to $20 billion [iv] collectively each year.

In addition to great family plan savings, individuals and families can also enjoy an incredible wireless experience thanks to T-Mobile’s rapidly expanding nationwide 4G LTE network- now the fastest[v] in the United States. For more information, visit the T-Mobile newsroom.

T-Mobile ‘Get out of Jail Free Card’ pays contract cutters up to $650 per line

T-Mobile will reimburse entire amount of customers’ early termination fees when they switch from AT&T, Sprint or Verizon

uncarrier-4T-Mobile just took the wrapper off its latest Uncarrier initiative, introducing us to its boldest moves yet. As previously rumored, the wireless provider will pay off early termination fees for anyone leaving their current provider. Should you leave either Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint then you could earn yourself up to $650 for jumping early. Called the ‘Get Out of Jail Free Card’ it’s a combination of eligible phone trade-ins and ETF credits.

Up to a $300 trade-in credit comes from each eligible device and up to $350 more comes once the customer sends their final bill (ETF fees). This is per line! We cannot help but imagine this could lead to even more growth for T-Mobile. What’s more, it could come at the expense of other carriers. As to when this all takes effect, customers can head to a T-Mobile store tomorrow.

Carriers like to make you think you’re just signing up for two years with their family plans, but with staggered expiration dates and early termination fees, they’re really locking you in forever,” said Mike Sievert, chief marketing officer for T-Mobile. “Now, families are free to switch without worrying about early termination fees. And by switching to T-Mobile, a family of four can save $1,880 over two years compared to an AT&T shared family plan.”

Note that customers must trade-in their old phone, purchase a new T-Mobile phone and port their phone number to T-Mobile to qualify.

T-Mobile has best quarter in 8 years, added 1.6 million net customers in Q4

In the last quarter of 2012, things were looking down for T-Mobile. The network lost over 500,000 postpaid customers, and had lost well over 2 million customers for the year overall. Now, things are starting to turn around: at CES the company revealed that Q4 2013 was its best quarter in over eight years, and it grew by more than 1.6 million new customers in that time period. Company CEO John Legere didn’t specifically say how many of these customers came from the competition but did call out Sprint has the carrier it ported the most numbers from, followed closely by AT&T and distantly by Verizon. In all, the company gained 4.4 million net customers for the year, an enormous turnaround from its 2012 losses. Naturally, Legere points to the company’s Uncarrier initiative as the secret to its success. “There will never be contracts in our business! 12.2 million customers have come to simple choice.”

Live from T-Mobile’s Uncarrier 4.0 event at CES 2014!

Say what you will about some of the things that fly out of T-Mobile CEO John Legere’s mouth, but you can’t help but admire the endless energy and enthusiasm he shows for his company. The fearless executive will shortly be taking the stage shortly to officially reveal the latest strategy known as UnCarrier 4.0. Its previous iterations, which were designed to create large waves in the normally stuffy wireless industry, focused on getting customers away from the shackles of a multi-year contract, offering faster upgrades and free international roaming at slower speeds. What’s the next thing up Legere’s pink sleeves? Find out with us!

Hey everyone! Brad here on text, and Joseph Volpe is taking care of the images.

T-Mobile to launch Sony Xperia Z1S, LG F3Q on January 22 – leak

Sony’s latest smartphone bound for the United States, the T-Mobile Xperia Z1S will touch down on January 22. At least that’s what TmoNews is saying today. The smaller, yet equally powerful Sony handset will be exclusive to T-Mobile. Key specifications for the waterproof phone include a 5-inch 1080p HD display, a 20.7-megapixel camera, Snapdragon 800 processor, and 32GB storage.

The QWERTY-packin’ LG F3Q smartphone from T-Mobile is also expected to arrive on January 22, according to the same report. Likely a low-end hardware experience, the device should offer users a screen of around 4-inches. Other specifications being tossed around include a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, so nothing too powerful. With that, obviously, should come a rock bottom price. Here’s hoping to something around $250 outright, or less.

T-Mobile’s Uncarrier 4 plans accidentally leaked ahead of today’s announcement

T-Mobile will pay termination fees for families breaking contracts with other carriers

Looks like we know at least part of what T-Mobile expects to announce today at CES. As previously rumored, the Uncarrier 4.0 stuff could be all about paying off early termination fees for customers making the switch from other carriers.

From all appearances, T-Mobile plans to pay a early termination fees for those who break their carrier’s contract and trade in their current devices. The leak comes in the form of an ad/banner published early on T-Mobile’s website. Initially discovered by Droid Life, it has since been pulled. Additional details remain unclear at this point but it’s reported that T-Mobile will pay up to $350 per line when a customer ports over at least three lines.

We’ll find out all of the nitty gritty details later today; T-Mobile has a press event scheduled for 3:30PM EST.
