WSJ: Sprint chairman, CEO want to meet with FCC
Sprint chairman Masayoshi Son and CEO Dan Hesse are expected to meet with the FCC this week to discuss the potential for a T-Mobile acquisition. The rumors of such a deal, as some know, have been circulating for more than a few months. As to why the duo want to meet with the government, the WSJ says it’s to convince the FCC that it’s better for consumer interest. According to a source, the chairman wants to argue that this would create a real competitor to Verizon and AT&T.
The meeting will cover a range of issues and wasn’t called to discuss a specific transaction…
…yeah, right.
Sprint and T-Mobile are said to be working on a deal which could range from $20 billion to as high as $50 billion. That is, of course, if the U.S. government doesn’t shoot it down first.

Super Bowl 2014 ad roundup: ’80s stars raid a RadioShack, Bears dance with Ellen and more
If you were one of those 110 million who tuned into this year’s Super Bowl, you probably have some thoughts on those ads — ads that cost a whole load of cash. This year, we had the predictable heart-tug from a soda brand, a shirtless Brooklyn Nine-Nine star singing along with the Muppets and a reunion with the boys of Full House over a cup of greek yogurt. But since this is Engadget, let’s start with what we know best: tech.
T-Mobile – #nocontract with Tim Tebow
The former Jets quarterback doesn’t have a deal with another NFL team and T-Mobile customers don’t need contracts either.
Beats Music – Ellen DeGeneres
Ellen, bears, dancing. Beats Music.
RadioShack – #InWithTheNew
Erik Estrada, Chuckie and Alf love RadioShack. Who knew?
GoDaddy – Bodybuilder
If you were expecting to see a supermodel kissing a chubby teenager like last year, we’re sorry.
GoPro – Red Bull Stratos
Another reminder of why Felix Baumgartner’s space jump was epic.
Sonos – Face Off
Intuit TurboTax – Love Hurts
Microsoft – Empowering
Fox’s 24 – Live Another Day
The Amazing Spiderman 2
Transformers 4
AT&T Offering $100 Credit for Adding a New Line
T-Mobile has struck a cord in the carrier world after unveiling their different stages of their UNCarrier plan. AT&T seemingly being one of the carriers a little shaken up by Tmo, especially by always being picked on by CEO of T-Mobile, John Legere. AT&T is trying their best to sway T-Mobile customers their way, as well as keep the existing ones that have. They have a new incentive for existing customers and new customers, and that is when you activate a new line of service, AT&T will credit the customer’s account with a $100 credit. This offer is good to the end of March, so if T-Mobile hasn’t convinced you to join their team, you might want to consider taking this offer. For more details head to the AT&T page proved in the link below.
This $100 credit is a way we can reward our existing customers who add an additional line of service for their loyalty, and it’s an incentive for customers of Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and other wireless carriers to come to AT&T and enjoy the nation’s most reliable 4G LTE network.

T-Mobile CEO John Legere Posts Three Ads in Response to AT&T’s Campaign
You got to love John Legere. Since he hopped on as CEO of T-Mobile, the not so popular carrier is now becoming one of the most popular carriers. Not only have they changed the carrier game with their UNCarrier plans, Legere’s antics towards the carriers can be quite hysterical. Mainly when he starts picking on AT&T.
AT&T started a new campaign giving T-Mobile customers a $450 incentive to come over to AT&T. It didn’t take long before T-Mobile fired back, and today, Legere posted three different responses to AT&T on his Twitter account.
Pretty funny stuff. T-Mobile has definitely got the other carriers scrambling to better their plans, but it doesn’t look like they are going to be able to catch up.

T-Mobile announces LG G Flex and Optimus F3Q, both coming February 5th

Welcome, LG G Flex — we’ve been expecting you. The curved smartphone has already been announced for T-Mobile, but we just didn’t have the exact pricing or availability. That information has finally come down the wires: The G Flex will be arriving at stores and online on February 5th. The total cost of the device will be $576 $672, although you can get it for nothing down and 24 monthly payments of $28 on the carrier’s Simple Choice plan. Additionally, anyone who grabs one will also get six free months of Netflix. (Update: T-Mobile originally mentioned $576 was the retail cost, but the math for monthly payments didn’t add up; we reached out to company reps who told us that this was a typo and is actually $672.)
Also announced with the G Flex today was the Optimus F3Q, an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean device that comes in misty blue and boasts a full physical QWERTY slideout keyboard. It offers a 4-inch IPS TFT display, 5MP rear camera, VGA front-facing cam, 2,460mAh battery, NFC, 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8930 processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB internal storage, up to 32GB external storage via microSD and some of LG’s well-known features like QuickMemo and QuickSlide. The device retails for $312 at full price, or you can get it for 24 monthly payments of $13. You’ll also be able to pick one of these up alongside the G Flex on February 5th.

HTC One will get KitKat certification in the US next week

Eighty-four days. That’s how long it’s been since HTC announced its intent to bring Android 4.4 KitKat to all North American versions of the One within 90 days. With just six days left to go on the countdown, HTC just tweeted on its US account that the final software has finally entered the hallowed carrier labs for testing and will be certified (and, we hope, rolled out) sometime next week. Of course, the process is now essentially under the control of individual mobile operators, so let’s hope that they don’t make liars out of HTC — we’ve had Wednesday circled on our Sense calendars for quite some time now.
