Android 4.3 for the T-Mobile Xperia Z
Android 4.3 OTA Outed for T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z, Starting Today?
In typical information cruising we came across a post over at Android Geeks that said the T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z Android 4.3 update was starting to roll out. The page they referred to was the T-Mobile support page for the Xperia Z. That is is all on the up and up, but it seems that shortly after it was published, it was removed.
Priory to its vanishing act, the AndroidGeek guys got a screenshot of the page. It outlined that as of March 3rd, today, there would be an update to Android 4.3 for the Xperia Z. It would be labeled with firmware version 10.4.C.0.797. The improvements sections lists a few niceties though.
- Software Stability Improvements
- UXP Air user interface redesign
- WiFi Calling user interface redesign
- Stock keyboard switched from Nuance XT9 to Swiftkey
- 5 signal bars instead of 4
A few things could have happened that forced it to be pulled back down. One, the publication wasn’t finished. Seriously, there is an extra bullet point with no writing.
Second, while today is March 3rd, they have all day to start the roll out. It is most likely still coming, just not until later this evening. Or third, which we don’t want to have happen, it started its roll out and and failed or screwed up some devices. We didn’t see any reports of issues, or of anyone getting the OTA yet for that matter, so we are going to go with the first two reasons for now.
For those sporting the T-Mobile branded Sony Xperia Z, keep your device charged up and don’t stray to far from a WiFi connection. The file size that was listed comes in at 308 MBs. If you happen to see it pop-up, let us, and the rest of the users, know about it.

T-Mobile LG G2 gets Android KitKat via 1.5GB KDZ File
If you have a T-Mobile LG G2 and you have been waiting for Android 4.4 KitKat to hit your device, Christmas has come early. We’ve gotten word that an update file has been found on the LG servers, which will allow the T-Mobile LG G2 to finally advance to Android 4.4.2 as promised. As the OTA option is clearly not on the cards yet, the file will be a 1.5GB download and you will need to install the file with the LG Mobile Support Tool, but who’s complaining?
Just a warning: if your device is rooted, the update process will remove root, as well as getting rid of your custom recovery. The Android KitKat update to the LG G2 is expected to bring the LG flagship back up to speed with its competitors, and LG has even shown us how big of a jump that is in a video comparison of how much faster Android 4.4.2 is than the Android 4.2.2 that it launched on (check out the video here).
If you’re interested in trying it out, head over to the XDA Forum page linked below and let us know if you’re successful in getting Android KitKat on your T-Mobile LG G2.
Android 4.4.2 Source Code Released for T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Android 4.4.2 for the T-Mobile variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 isn’t quite out just yet, but it is coming. We know this because Samsung said it was, and because the source code for the update has been loaded up on the Samsung OpenSource site.
Source code doesn’t do a lick of good for the average user, but it does give the amazing developers out there things to start tinkering with to ‘fix’ whatever the firmware fails to do. The TMo model number is N900T. Pull that up at the Samsung OpenSource webpage via search and you find the file, N900TUVUCNB4.
As for when the T-Mobile Note 3 will actually have an official OTA to Android 4.4.2 is a mystery. Often times it starts rolling out the same day, or at least within 24 hours, of the source code going up for download. Be sure to keep an eye on your Note 3 if you are still stock and watch out for the OTA.

T-Mobile to start turning off older MetroPCS network this year
T-Mobile’s efforts to transition customers from MetroPCS’ aging CDMA network to its own GSM and LTE frequencies is going quite swimmingly. The company has been bragging that it’s well ahead of schedule, and in some markets it’s already begun repurposing the smaller carrier’s spectrum to deliver faster Wideband LTE connections. Things are going so well, in fact, that it will begin shutting down the slower MetroPCS network this year, instead of waiting until 2015. The first three cities on the chopping block will be Boston, Philadelphia and Las Vegas. Though, considering its accelerated transition we wouldn’t be surprised to see others join the list before the end of the year. Around 40 percent of MetroPCS users have already switched to phones that will work on T-Mobile’s network, and the carrier plans to offer more aggressive upgrade options to push more customers over. Those that have yet to upgrade wont suffer a complete disruption of service, however, thanks to roaming agreements. The next step, of course, will be “refarming” that newly cleared spectrum to deliver even faster wireless speeds.

T-Mobile’s UnCarrier plans are working, adds 4.4 million new customers in 2013
When John Legere jointed T-Mobile, the company had lost two million customers and was eating some substantial losses. The party-crashing CEO, however, seems to have turned things around with the UnCarrier, Jump and Simple Choice programs. In the company’s annual report, T-Mobile has announced that 2013 saw the network add a whopping 4.4 million customers across the year. For Q4, while the company added 1.6 million customers, it also marked a loss of $20 million — so perhaps some of the money spent baiting rival networks should have stayed in the bank.

T-Mobile Sweepstakes live for One of Six Galaxy S5 Prize Kits
Samsung just wrapped up its Unpacked 5 event where they announced a the Galaxy Gear 2, the Gear Fit and the Samsung Galaxy S5. They went over small portions of the device with small looks at the new UI, the camera, battery life and spent a good deal of time talking about the fitness integration. Now that the event is over, the barrage of carrier announcements can commence. The first up, that we have seen so far, is T-Mobile. Moments after the event ended they started pushing out the sign-up page link for the Galaxy S5.
The page is your typical “We will email you when it’s here” type page. Plug in your name, email and a few other check boxes and you are done. However, they are also having a contest to win a Galaxy S5 with a S-View Flip Cover. In all actuality, they are going to be giving away six packages over the next 6 weeks.
The contest also leads to some other details. Such as the suggested retail price of the device and S-View Flip cover coming to a total of $668.99.
To get your name on the list head over to T-Mobile.com. You can check out the contest details HERE.
