T-Mobile Launches ‘The Underground’; Limited Stock Special Edition Devices and More

T-Mobile has just launched a new program/website called The Underground. Near as the G+ post and the site describe, it would appear that T-Mobile will use it to direct your attention towards special limited addition devices and accessories.

T-Mobile the UndergroundIt will also offer up various news and reviews from the “tech literati”, but we don’t see anything on the page yet nor do we know who this tech literati will consist of. The first limited edition device that they have posted is the Gold Samsung Galaxy S5. We certainly hope they can do better than that and soon.

If you are a happy T-Mobile customer you might want to go ahead and bookmark the page and check back occasionally to see what else this “Underground” brings.

iOS 8 lets your iPhone make WiFi calls on T-Mobile

T-Mobile Holds Announcement Event In New York

Apple covered a lot of ground during its iOS 8 launch, but it glossed over a big, big deal for some iPhone owners: WiFi calling support. When the upgrade is available in the fall, subscribers on T-Mobile and other supporting networks can use WiFi hotspots for phone conversations instead of worrying about cellular reception or roaming fees. The feature is arguably overdue when Android and Windows Phone have supported it for a while, but it’s a welcome addition for iOS fans who’d rather not switch platforms (or rely solely on voice over IP apps like Skype) just to get a better calling experience.

T-Mobile Nexus 4, 5 and 7 Get Android 4.3 OTA Starting Today

Looks like the T-Mobile branded Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 owners have something to look out for. T-Mobile has listed all three devices on their device support pages this morning with a new OTA, Android 4.4.3. The Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 will both gain version KTU84L and the Nexus 5 will pick up KTU84M.

T-Mobile Android 4.4.3All the updates don’t seem to bring in anything crazy or remarkably new. All the OTA lists on T-Mobile state “security enhancements’ and “various bug fixes”. That doesn’t mean that you won’t be excited to get the update. Hopefully it should address some random bugs users have faced like random reboots, camera focus speeds and data dropout issues. Of course those that have no issues won’t be as excited to see the update as one who have been experiencing issues.

Anyone out there see the update yet? Has it improved things, or made things worse?

AT&T and Verizon are tied for the most US cellular customers

AT&T LTE ad at a San Francisco store

AT&T and Verizon have long dominated the American cellular landscape, but there’s always been a top dog (more recently, Verizon). In the first quarter of the year, however, something strange happened — the carriers virtually tied each other for market share, according to estimates by analyst Chetan Sharma. While the providers publish different figures (AT&T includes virtual networks and machine-to-machine links that Verizon doesn’t), Sharma believes that they both had 34 percent of US subscribers. AT&T reportedly leveled the playing field when it bought Leap and added all of Cricket’s customers.

This isn’t to say that either of the big two telcos can rest easily. While Sprint is still bleeding subscribers and dipped to 16 percent of the US market, T-Mobile is thriving — the UnCarrier added twice as many users as its top three rivals put together, giving it a 14 percent slice. It’s difficult to know for sure whether the estimate is completely accurate given the lack of directly comparable official numbers. No matter what, you can’t count on this state of affairs lasting for very long. Sprint’s rumored acquisition of T-Mobile could quickly tip the balance, and it wouldn’t take much for AT&T or Verizon to claim an absolute lead.

T-Mobile to disrupt industry yet again on June 18

uncarrier-5-tease

If there’s one thing you can say about T-Mobile it’s that they don’t sit still very long. Come next month, The Un-carrier is set to announce yet another change in their services. T-Mobile has scheduled a June 18 Un-carrier 5.0 event based around the concept of “We don’t play it safe and sound”. It’s hard to say for certain what they have up their sleeves this summer as there’s been little talk of new strategies as of late.

What would you like to see T-Mobile announce at the June 18 event?

T-Mobile Partners with Jays AB to Bring Big Sound to Customers

T-Mobile partners with Jays Back in March of last year we had the chance to review a set of A-Jays One+ Bluetooth earbuds. They were designed with Android users in mind and come with a companion app to help enhance your audio enjoyment. They sounded great, looked great and had a price tag that was under what they should have been. That is a good thing. Today Jays has announced a new partnership with T-Mobile to bring their quality Swedished designed earbuds to Magenta customers across the nation.

“We believe that our products gives the value and features that the increasingly demanding headphone consumers are looking for today”, says Rune Torbjörnsen, CEO Jays AB (publ) in a comment. “As we are seeing growth in the carrier segment for headphones, this collaboration marks an important step for Jays in introducing our iWA-concept to the US consumers and T-Mobile provides a perfect launch platform that allows us to do that.”

Initially there will be four JAYS models to choose from landing in 3000 stores across the nation in June. It should be a great launch for Jays and help them gain some more exposure for their great products. Rune mentions a new iWA-concept that will be introduced through T-Mobile. That has me wondering what exactly they will be bringing to the table. Jays has earbuds, headphones and some other audio accessories. We will have to keep our eyes out for things to come next month.

T-Mobile giving an LG G3 away each day until June 29

lg_g3_open_beta_tmobile

T-Mobile is the first U.S. carrier to announce the upcoming availability for the newly introduced LG G3. Although the Un-carrier has yet to reveal pricing or a firm date, we can expect the flagship to touch down this summer. In other words, pretty much what LG said in their press announcement.

Current and prospective T-Mobile customers can now sign up for pre-registration of the LG G3. Doing so could actually earn them a free G3 ahead of its actual debut. Indeed, T-Mobile will be giving away one free LG G3 per day until June 29. Called the Open Beta Sweepstakes, it’s a chance to win an advance-release Beta model. Good luck!

Developer Edition of the LG G3 Makes a Leaked Appearance

Leaks of the LG G3 have been cropping up left and right lately. Rightfully so since the rumor mills have pegged it for a May 27th announcement. It would only make sense that more leaks of the device and the specs would crop up. The latest leak comes from the usual suspects, or rather suspect, @evleaks.

LG G3 T-Mobile

This time he states that the images are of a LG G3 Developers Edition with T-Mobile. The T-Mobile aspect has us wondering what is up. It makes sense that there would be a developers edition of the device and that T-Mobile in general would support it as a GSM device. I am not sure if what he is saying is that a unlocked developer edition will come to the carrier as is though. That would be something pretty amazing really. Toss in the killer plans and put this puppy on payments and your have a recipe for awesomeness.

Perhaps what is a bit more exciting to see, is the clarity of the screen in the images. The LG G3 spec sheets have been talking about a 2K quad HD display, and I have got to say, I don’t see any pixelation in the screen images, do you?

I don’t know about you guys, but that is pretty stellar to me. You can take a look at a few other images including a benchmark score, the battery and camera lens over at @evleaks page.
