Samsung’s Galaxy S6 sales off to a blistering start; T-Mobile claims their Galaxy S6 sales have nearly doubled their total sales of the Galaxy S5

s6

If T-Mobile’s sales are indicative of how the other carriers are faring, the little traction and sales Samsung may have lost last year with their Galaxy S5 are now nothing to worry about considering the numbers their new Galaxy S6 is putting up. According to T-Mobile, sales of the Galaxy S6 have already nearly doubled the total sales of the previous S5. Consumers have wanted Samsung to change things up a bit as they viewed the S4 and S5 as minor iterations rather than a new device. With the new S6, Samsung decided to finally change things up a bit with a revamped look and finally parted with their plastic materials and opted for a more “premium” look/feel. The reviews of the S6 have bode very well for Samsung and it seems nothing will slow this train down.

What do you guys think of the S6? I know not everyone is on board with Samsung’s decision to go with glass and removing expandable storage alongside the removable battery (including myself), but it is refreshing to see Samsung listening to it’s critics and changing things up a bit.

T-Mobile states that the HTC One M9, the Samsung Galaxy S6, and Galaxy S6 Edge are coming to the network’s stores and site on April 10.

Already, the S6 and the S6 Edge have already sold nearly twice as many units as the S5, and in just 10 days, the HTC One M9 has sold more than the One M8 during the same period.

All of these devices are available with a Simple Choice plan for $0 down, with a predetermined monthly rate for two years for each device. The One M9, S6, and S6 Edge have rates of $27.08, $28.33, and $32.49, respectively.

Through Carrier Freedom, T-Mobile will pay early termination fees and phone payments up to $650. For those customers who order the S6 and the S6 Edge before April 12, they will get a one-year Netflix subscription. Qualifying customers will need to visit SamsungPromotions.com in order to receive a promo code redeemable at Netflix.com/SpecialOffers.

Lastly, MetroPCS customers can expect the S6 in stores and online starting April 17 for $649.

Early Galaxy S6 sales almost double the Galaxy S5’s, says T-Mobile

samsung galaxy s6 edge unboxing aa (19 of 20)

The Galaxy S6 could become Samsung’s most popular flagship smartphone yet, according to analyst forecasts and early sales indications from T-Mobile. The US carrier says that sales of the Galaxy S6 are already “nearly double” those of the Galaxy S5 during the first 10 days.

The Galaxy S5 is currently T-Mobile’s best-selling Galaxy flagship smartphone, but globally that title belongs to the Galaxy S4, which sold around 45 million units in its first year. Analysts are expecting that the Galaxy S6 may exceed that figure in its first year, partly due to overwhelming positive reviews.

A strong launch for the Galaxy S6 series is exactly what Samsung needs if it wants to improve upon its declining quarterly profits this year. Although we will have to see if the temporary limited available of the Galaxy S6 Edge will have any impact on Samsung’s second quarter sales figure.

T-Mobile also stated that HTC One M9 sales surpassed those of the One M8 during its first 10 day period, but the handset doesn’t appear to have seen the same leap in popularity as Samsung’s latest flagship.

Technically, the Samsung Galaxy S6 doesn’t launch until tomorrow, but T-Mobile is including pre-orders in its figures. What’s more, it’s likely that Galaxy S6 sales could reach even higher numbers when it becomes publicly available in stores on April 10th.

Zedd, T-Mobile offering 250,000 free downloads of latest single

zedd_true_colors

Those who follow/like T-Mobile on Twitter and Facebook will have an opportunity to download a remix of Zedd’s “I Want You To Know” for free. Starting tomorrow, T-Mobile plans to allow 250,000 free downloads of the musician’s latest single to promote his True Colors album. The carrier has already done similar promotions with Macklemore and Shakira.

T-Mobile also announced its return as the sponsor of Coachella’s livestream. Beatport, another sponsor of the event, will join T-Mobile’s Music Freedom program as well. This brings the total amount of music streaming services featured on Music Freedom to thirty.

Hit the break for the full press release.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Multi-platinum, GRAMMY award-winning artist/DJ/producer Zedd will release his hotly anticipated second album, entitled True Colors, on May 19th via Interscope Records. Zedd executive-produced the album and co-wrote all the songs. Featured vocalists will be announced in the coming weeks. True Colors is the follow-up to Zedd’s 2012 debut album Clarity, which spawned five singles, including the Grammy-winning title track, and cemented Zedd as a global star.

True Colors‘ first single, “I Want You To Know,” featuring Selena Gomez, has climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Written and produced by Zedd, with contribution from OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, the uplifting pop-influenced dance track was dubbed USA Today’s “Song of The Week” in late February, while Refinery29 said: “We’re calling it: This is the turn-up song for spring.” The video for “I Want You To Know” has racked up more than 17 million views on Vevo. Watch it HERE.

T-Mobile and Zedd also announce a new partnership and tomorrow morning, 250,000 free downloads of the  Milo & Otis remix of “I Want You To Know” will be made available to fans who follow Zedd and T-Mobile’s Facebook, and Twitter. T-Mobile will also be a working with Zedd throughout the year to bring Un-carrier customers access to exclusive benefits including reserved tickets for live performances and more. This sponsorship to help un-leash the music represents one of the major investment areas for T-Mobile. T-Mobile launched Music Freedom™ last year to allow customers to stream all the music they want on America’s fastest nationwide LTE network − without hitting their monthly high-speed data. Zedd will hit the road in support of True Colors this fall T-Mobile will be the title sponsor of the tour. More details will be announced soon.

Word has already gotten out about Zedd’s very special roll-out of the #ZeddTrueColors campaign, in which 50 fans in 10 different cities get to hear a new song from the album, party with other fans, and meet Zedd at color-themed events in very special locations around the U.S. As part of the experience, fans will listen to each new song on brand new matching colored Beats By Dr. Dre headphones.  The first event began in Austin on March 19th during the SXSW festival and wound up in one of the largest caverns in the state of Texas, Longhorn Cavern State Park. At the purple-themed party, Zedd unveiled the album’s first song, “Addicted to Memory” feat. Bahari — a classic Zedd dance track that acts as “an odyssey that brings the listener into the album,” he says. See more about the Austin event HERE.

The second event began in Los Angeles and traveled to the Integratron in Joshua Tree, Calif., on March 28th. There fans watched as Zedd set a giant wooden Z on fire in the middle of the Mojave Desert and got the first-ever listen to “Straight Into the Fire” at the orange-themed party.

The yellow themed third event took place in Phoenix on April 5th under a full moon with boating on Lake Pleasant where Zedd unveiled the track “Bumble Bee”.

“I wanted fans to experience the album in a whole new way,” Zedd says, adding that every song on the album is associated with a color, which inspired the idea for the events. “I can’t wait for everyone to see what’s coming next.” Keep an eye on http://zeddtruecolors.com/ as Zedd reveals the music of True Colors to select groups of fans in unbelievable locations across the country in the coming weeks.

Born Anton Zaslavski, Zedd has distinguished himself by drawing from his diverse musical training and a background spanning classical to post-hardcore/metal to electro house. He creates detailed, carefully produced compositions that also appeal to audiences outside of the EDM world. The New York Times has said, “his talent is extraordinary,” while Stereogum has noted: “His beats tend to sound like gorgeously engineered spacecraft that shift into warp speed at the drop, their engines overloading and threatening to disintegrate.” After signing with Interscope Records in 2012, Zedd released Clarity to much critical acclaim. The title track climbed to No. 2 at Top 40 radio, went Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, and won a 2014 GRAMMY Award for Best Dance Recording. The video has racked up more than 122 million Vevo views, while his platinum follow-up hit “Stay The Night” (ft. Hayley Williams of Paramore) has over 102 million Vevo views and won the 2014 MTV Clubland Video Music Award. Zedd first made waves with a series of remixes of tracks by Skrillex, The Black Eyed Peas, Fatboy Slim, and Lady Gaga. He has headlined at numerous festivals including Coachella, Outside Lands, Bonnaroo, Ultra, Electric Daisy Carnival, Nocturnal, Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza, Electric Zoo, and many more.

More sad news for Sony: T-Mobile abruptly discontinues its Sony Xperia Z3 with less than 6 months on the shelves

T-Mobile Z3

T-Mobile has discontinued sales of its Sony Xperia Z3 device with just under 6 months of being released. While it may be stunning to hear at first, it’s not much of a surprise to most if one were to really think about it. It’s no secret that Sony’s mobile phone division is well behind its competitors (Samsung, HTC, LG, Apple) and with lackluster sales of its Z3, T-Mobile has no other choice but to yank the device from its shelves.

I’ve been a fan of Sony’s mobile devices and have always felt that they are highly underrated, but it just doesn’t stand a chance with other Android competitors that already have brand recognition with the consumers. This news also comes at a bad time as Sony’s Z3 successor, the Z4, is set to be unveiled soon with leaked pictures already surfacing. Will the Z4 suffer the same fate?

Do you guys own a Sony Z device? If so, what are your thoughts on it? Do you think the Z4 will suffer the same fate as it’s predecessor?

T-mobile no longer offers Sony Xperia Z3 online

sony xperia z3 first impressions aa (12 of 17)

Despite creating beautiful devices, Sony hasn’t seen the growth in mobile that it has hoped for, which has led the Japanese giant to announce its plans to scale back its mobile efforts going forward. There are numerous possible reasons why Sony isn’t in a more dominant position in the mobile market, though lack of presence in North America certainly could play at least a small role.

This situation has been looking a little bit better with the Sony Xperia Z3, which made its way to T-Mobile and to also to Verizon, with the latter carrier offering a special variant dubbed the Z3v. Unfortunately, increased presence hasn’t necessarily translated to increased demand, as evidenced by the fact T-Mobile has now pulled the Xperia Z3 from its online store.

While there’s no way to say for sure that the uncarrier pulled the phone due to limited demand, we wouldn’t be too surprised. From a slow rollout of Lollipop to limited advertising in the US, the Sony Xperia Z3 just hasn’t made a big enough impression in the states and things aren’t liable to improve with new 2015 flagships like the One M8 and Galaxy S6 surfacing.

On the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z4 is likely just around the corner, with new images leaking today, and so perhaps T-Mobile simply ran low on inventory and decided to wait it out for the Z4 as opposed to working with Sony to secure more stock? Only time will tell for sure.

Lollipop OTA will begin rolling out to the T-Mobile LG G3 on April 7th

lg g3 aa (5 of 22)

The update to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop for the T-Mobile LG G3 has been available for a few days now, but if you’ve been waiting for the OTA to hit your device, you shouldn’t have to wait much longer. According to T-Mobile’s Des Smith, the Lollipop update for the T-Mobile G3 will begin making its way to devices Tuesday, April 7th.

If you didn’t hear the news a few days ago, LG G3 owners on T-Mo’s network can update to Lollipop right now, as long as they don’t mind jumping through a few hoops. The update, which will bring the device up to Android 5.0.1, can be installed by using LG’s mobile support tool website. For instructions on how to install the software, head to this page.

G3 owners will be able to experience a number of under-the-hood changes including the new ART runtime, enhanced security features and much more. Google has also added in some nice UI tweaks, including the company’s wonderful Material Design guidelines. The aesthetic changes won’t be as prominent on the G3 as they are on a phone that’s running vanilla Android, but we imagine most users will be quite satisfied with the new update.

LG G3 owners on T-Mobile, are you excited for Lollipop?

Some T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge users report screen defects

By all accounts, Samsung’s new pair of flagship Galaxy S devices are prepared to take the world by storm. With a combination of premium materials, a lightweight reduction of TouchWiz, and less bloatware than ever, the phones allegedly had over 20 million retailer pre-orders before MWC even ended. T-Mobile made news recently when it announced that pre-orders of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were shipping early and indeed some customers already have them… along with some problems.

Several users on XDA Developers and Reddit have reported a troubling issue involving the screen of the Galaxy S6 Edge having quality control issues. Specifically, there are fine scratches all over the screen and, in the case of Erica Griffin, a crevice deep enough that it can be felt when running a fingernail across it. Some have already gone about returning the products to T-Mobile, only for the second (replacement) to have the exact same problems. User rhcpcjg has posted several pictures:

IMG_0161 rhcpcjg (XDA)

If you look at the bottom right corner, you can clearly see a circular halo-type pattern of scratches. One user suggested that a pattern-formation is not necessarily a defect, however it was refuted with another user’s claim that their scratches do not adhere to a pattern.

The second picture shows further scratching on other areas of the screen (look around the flash), once again appearing in a circular-like pattern:

IMG_0164 rhcpcjg (XDA)

The final picture contains a dead pixel, though it’s admittedly hard to see. Look at the horizontal line near the bottom of the screen (above the word “Start”), just above the center-right portion. A small black artifact is there:

IMG_0165 rhcpcjg (XDA)

It’s difficult to say just what is going on here. One XDA user has suggested that the damage might be due to mishandling with T-Mobile’s shipping couriers, such that particles of dust are trapped under the factory installed screen protector, and due to throwing or dropping packages, the dust is therefore allowed to scratch the surface. Others have suggested there are problems with the individuals assembling these units, or packaging them. Yet another idea is that T-Mobile may have installed its own screen protectors on the devices post-manufacturing by Samsung’s factories, and that might be where the culprit is coming from.

One thing seems to be generally true of these claims however – the scuffs required direct lighting (often sunlight) to view. It remains to be seen just how widespread this is, or if the standard Galaxy S6 will experience similar problems. It’s very possible that only devices in early batches are suffering from this problem, though that’s just speculation. Suffice to say however, if the S6 Edge does have quality control issues, it might serve as yet another justification for a “standard substitute.”

Have you encountered any similar issues on your Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge?
