T-mobile kicks off ‘Never Settle for Verizon’ campaign, free trial and more

never-settle-verizon

One thing T-Mobile is known for is speaking up about the competition — loudly. This tends to go doubly for CEO John Legere. With that in mind, the Uncarrier is once again calling out Verizon with a new campaign that essentially makes fun of Verizon’s current “never settle” advertising campaign.

In a set of eight new ads, T-Mobile points out the many advantages the company says it holds over Big Red. Each ad ends with “never settle for Verizon”. Moving beyond the ads, T-Mobile is also holding a special “Never Settle” promotion that will be ran from May 13th until May 31st. If you are a Verizon customer, the new promo gives you the chance to sign up for two weeks of T-Mobile service and will be able to walk away without any further obligation to the Uncarrier if you don’t like what you see. Obviously you’ll need to return any phones T-Mobile gave you, but that’s it.

Of course, it is important to note that the trial requires you to first cancel your Verizon service. That means if you don’t stick with T-Mobile, you’ll either have to start back up with Verizon or move on to another carrier. If you canceled a Verizon contract, you’ll also owe Big Red any associated early termination fees. T-Mobile will cover your re-activation fees if you decide to go back to Verizon, however.

For those that stick with uncarrier past the trial period, T-Mobile will cover any early termination fees charged by Verizon. Of course, you will be required to hand in your old Verizon phone as part of the deal. What do you think of this trial? Is it worth switching from Big Red? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Here’s all the “Never Settle” ads, for those that want to check them out:

T-Mobile temps Verizon customers with 2-week trials

t-mobile_devices

T-Mobile on Tuesday kicked of its Never Settle Trial, a program designed specifically to lure away Verizon customers. T-Mobile will let existing Verizon subscribers test out its network and services over a period of two weeks with no obligations or commitments.

With T-Mobile, you don’t have to settle for trickery, gimmicks and carrier BS the way you do with Verizon. I’m so confident in our kick-ass network experience that we’re footing the bill so Verizon customers can give T-Mobile a try.

John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile

It’s worth noting that the trial program requires the customer to port its number to T-Mobile and that they must surrender their old phone in the meanwhile. If, at the end of the two weeks they wish to return to Verizon they will port out the phone number and return the device. What’s more, T-Mobile will also pay for any fees incurred in starting service back up.

On the other hand, should the customer wish to stick with T-Mobile, it will pay off any remaining balances on the device as well as any early termination fees.

Interested parties can sign up for the Never Settle Trial program between May 13 and May 31, 2015.

T-Mobile’s Never Settle Trial allows Verizon customers to try out it’s network free-of-charge

T-Mobile NeverSettleForVerizon 1

One thing you can always count on with T-Mobile and it’s abrasive CEO, John Legere, is that a marketing campaign will have oodles of zing and lots of finger-pointing. Nowhere is it more evident than the latest offer that gives current Verizon customers the chance to try out T-Mobile’s network for up to 14 days without any charges. The offer is called Never Settle Trial and if customers like what they have tried out, T-Mobile will cover Verizon’s ETF (Early-Termination-Fees).

The Never Settle Trial is for Verizon customers only at this point, allowing them to port their number over to a T-Mobile phone whilst keeping hold of their Verizon handset in case they decide they like things as they are. If the customer decides to swap over, T-Mobile will pay up to $650 worth of ETFs or outstanding device payments, so long as they sign up to the Simple Choice Plan. If, after the trial, the customer decides to stay with Verizon, T-Mobile will refund any costs incurred whilst trying out the Uncarrier network as well as any associated costs with Verizon. Naturally, the customer will also have to return the T-Mobile handset.

It should come as no surprise that the T-Mobile CEO had something to say about the Never Settle Trial:

“Last week, I said we would hit right back at Verizon — I meant it,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. “T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network is the nation’s fastest. Not faster for the price … just faster, period. With T-Mobile, you don’t have to settle for trickery, gimmicks and carrier BS the way you do with Verizon.  I’m so confident in our kick-ass network experience that we’re footing the bill so Verizon customers can give T-Mobile a try.”

T-Mobile has also come up with a list of reasons why people should move to it from Verizon:

  • Paying too much
  • A slower LTE network
  • Limited data
  • 2-year service contracts
  • Overages and bill shock
  • Waiting to upgrade their phones
  • Being overcharged overseas
  • Having unused data repossessed every month
  • Being trapped by ETFs
  • Music streaming eating up their data
  • Limited WiFi calling
  • No guarantee that plan prices won’t go up unexpectedly
  • Hidden fees

T-Mobile has also released a bunch of ads for the #NeverSettleForVerizon campaign here. If the trial interests you, remember that it will run from May 13 to 31st and that you can take advantage of the trial by going online to T-Mobile’s website or by trotting off to one of its bricks ‘n mortar outlets.

Full Press Release:

Bellevue, Washington — May 5, 2015, 12:01 a.m. ET — Verizon seems to be spending billions on its latest ad campaign telling you to ‘Never Settle.’ T-Mobile (NYSE: TMUS) couldn’t agree more. So, today the Un-carrier launched the Never Settle Trial, exclusively for Verizon customers, so they can give the Un-carrier a try with no risk or extra out-of-pocket expense.

And, T-Mobile kicked off a new campaign of its own laying out the facts and all the ways wireless users shouldnever settle … like settling for an old carrier that penalizes you for using too much data, locks you into a two-year contract, makes you pay to leave, makes you wait to upgrade your phone, overcharges you outside the country or repossesses your unused data every month.

With the Never Settle Trial, Verizon customers port their number to a new T-Mobile smartphone and hold on to their old Verizon phone, just in case.  After the trial, if they love the service and want to join the millions switching to the Un-carrier, T-Mobile will pay off any of Verizon’s Early Termination Fees (ETFs) up to $650 or outstanding device payments when they trade in their phone and get a new one with T-Mobile’s wildly popular Simple Choice plan.  If it doesn’t work out, the customer just hands in their T-Mobile phone within 14 days, and the Un-carrier will refund any trial costs from using T-Mobile … and any service costs for starting back up with Verizon, like activation or other related fees Verizon regularly charges.  The Never Settle Trial starts on May 13, and Verizon customers can sign up through May 31.

At the same time, the Un-carrier is launching a new ad campaign − #NeverSettleforVerizon − highlighting the long list of painful ways Verizon forces its customers to settle for a subpar wireless experience, including…

  •   Paying too much
  •   A slower LTE network
  •   Limited data
  •   Two-year service contracts
  •   Overages and bill shock
  •   Waiting to upgrade their phones
  •   Being overcharged overseas
  •   Having unused data repossessed every month
  •   Being trapped by ETFs
  •   Music streaming eating up their data
  •   Limited Wi-Fi calling
  •   No guarantee that plan prices won’t go up unexpectedly
  •   Hidden fees

And, while Verizon is spending seemingly billions touting their network, T-Mobile is spending billions building out theirs. Not only does the Un-carrier offer America’s fastest nationwide 4G LTE, T-Mobile’s Data Strong™ network has more spectrum capacity per customer than Verizon. T-Mobile’s 4G LTE already covers 275 million Americans and is on pace to reach 300 million this year. And T-Mobile was first to offer its customers cutting-edge technologies like nationwide Voice over LTE and next-generation Wi-Fi calling.

Nearly 57 million Un-carrier customers have already figured out that they don’t have to settle. And more Americans will find out as the ads hit as part of T-Mobile’s national advertising campaign across multiple networks, as well as digital and social media.  To see the new spots, visit http://newsroom.t-mobile.com/media-kits/never-settle-for-verizon.htm. To take advantage of the Never Settle Trial, Verizon customers can visit t-mobile.com or a T-Mobile store between May 13 and May 31.

Trial:  Restrictions apply; pay-per-use services not included; qualifying postpaid service, deposit, & credit check may be required. Phone trade-in after trial req’d. for continued service.  Payout for return to Verizon limited to activation fees for wireless service ; payment made via prepaid card. Additional validation may be req’d. See T-Mobile.com for details.

T-Mobile’s ‘Never Settle Trial’ takes aim at Verizon

T-Mobile’s latest Un-carrier offering is going straight for Verizon’s jugular. It’s called the “Never Settle Trial,” and as you might have guessed, it specifically mocks Big Red’s #NeverSettle ad campaign. The trial, exclusively available to Verizon subscribers, will give you free access to a T-Mobile phone with an Un-carrier plan for two full weeks. You can even port your Verizon number without cutting your old line. If you decide to sign up for a Big Magenta Simple Choice plan by the end of the 14-day period, Legere and co. promise to shoulder any Early Termination Fee you incur worth up to $650. Actually, the company swears to pay for any service costs incurred due to the trial, even if you decide to stick with Verizon.

Take note that the offering does have a number of conditions, including having to trade in your old phone once you’ve decided to continue with T-Mobile and subjecting yourself to a credit check if needed. Also, you’ll have to sign up between May 13th and the 31st either through the company’s website or its stores in order to participate. For now, you can check T-Mo’s new ads that harshly criticize “an old carrier that penalizes you for using too much data, locks you into a two-year contract, makes you pay to leave, makes you wait to upgrade your phone, overcharges you outside the country or repossesses your unused data every month.” Whew. Your move, Verizon.

Shots fired: T-Mobile says “Never Settle for Verizon”, offers free trial service for Verizon customers

Everybody seems to be stealing OnePlus’ slogan these days. Verizon recently launched a campaign that tells its customers to “Never Settle”, a campaign that T-Mobile has jumped on today, but with a twist. T-Mobile says it agrees with Verizon that customers should “Never Settle”, except that they should “Never Settle for Verizon“, launching a series of eight ads that spell out exactly why you should side with the Un-carrier instead of Big Red. All the ads are embedded at the end of this article, but if you don’t want to watch them all, T-Mobile has basically said that it is superior to Verizon because of:

  • 0-year contract arrangements
  • Unlimited data
  • Unlimited data in 120 countries
  • Fast data
  • Data rollover

To further entice Verizon customers, T-Mobile has today announced the Never Settle Trial, which Verizon customers can sign up to for free to try T-Mobile’s network just to prove these points. T-Mobile CEO, John Legere says “I’m so confident in our kick-ass network experience that we’re footing the bill so Verizon customers can give T-Mobile a try.” The trial works by Verizon customers porting over their number to a T-Mobile device and tries it out for 14 days – if you’re sold after 14 days, T-Mobile will even foot any Early Termination Fees from Verizon up to $650. You can sign up for this offer between May 13 and May 31. With ad campaigns like this, you wonder why T-Mobile is still only the fourth largest carrier in the U.S.

T-Mobile begins Android 5.0 Lollipop for Galaxy Note Edge owners

If you were worried about your Samsung Galaxy Note Edge on T-Mobile getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, you can cool your jets. Today T-Mobile posted on their support page for the device that Lollipop, Android 5.0.2 to be more specific, is on its way out to users across the US. The build number you will be looking for is N915TUVU1COD7. It will bring all the Lollipop goodness that your fellow Note 4 friends have enjoyed for the last week or so, including Wi-Fi Passport. Which allows you to use Wi-Fi calling on any open Wi-Fi network and all networks you have access to. T-Mobile doesn’t list any apps being added or removed nor do they spout off the new fluid animations, privacy mode, lockscreen notifications or other awesome aspects of the new OS.

Per the norm, you need over 50% battery life on your device, a solid Wi-Fi connection and some time for the 1.1GB file to download and install to your Note Edge. If pulling down isn’t your cup of tea, then you can always plug your device into a PC and open up Samsung Kies and push it through that way.

Galaxy Note Edge on T-Mobile getting updated to Android 5.0

Samsung_Galaxy_Note_Edge_Main_03_TAT-Mobile has been on a roll with software updates lately. The carrier version of the Galaxy Note Edge is now officially seeing the Lollipop update OTA from T-Mobile, bringing a few features and the revamped Android software that Google introduced last year.

Unfortunately, it’s only 5.0, and not 5.1, but that’s still better than KitKat. You’ll need about 3 GB of space free for the update, but hopefully you haven’t crammed enough stuff onto your 32 GB device for that to be a problem.

T-Mobile rolling out Lollipop update to the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge

samsung galaxy note edge review aa (3 of 26)

Last Monday the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 finally received an update to Lollipop on T-Mobile’s network, about a week later than Sprint and AT&T. Now the Uncarrier is rolling out the same update to the Note 4’s curved brother, the Note Edge. Just as we saw with the Note 4, the new build bumps the software up to Android 5.0.1. The update itself is a massive 1.84GB, so you might want to wait until you’re on a Wi-Fi connection before downloading.

So what should you expect from the update? Just as we’ve seen with all other Samsung Lollipop updates, you’ll get changes like Smart Lock, priority notifications, an improved lockscreen and plenty of other tweaks.

One thing you won’t get much of is the new Material Design UI changes, as TouchWiz masks a lot of the aesthetic updates that you’d find with a vanilla Android build.

While the update is rolling out now, don’t be surprised if it takes at least a few days (or longer) before it hits your device. For those that don’t want to wait any longer than they have to, you might also want to check Samsung Kies to see if you can snag the update from their instead.

T-Mobile is once again the official wireless sponsor for Major League Baseball. This is the third straight year that the un-carrier can make claim to that title. Since the original partnership in 2012 T-Mobile has been hard at work to deploy DAS (Distributed Antennae Systems) at nearly half the stadiums across america. The system helps keep T-Mobile customers at the games connected and sharing moments from through all nine innings.

For those of us that don’t have a stadium readily available or the time to make it out to the ballpark, T-Mobile is still going to take care of you. The MLB at bat premium subscription, which is the official app for the Major Leagues, will, once again, be offered to Magenta customers for free. That saves you $19.99 and lets you get up-to-the-moment game analysis, live broadcast feeds of the “Game of the week”, real-time pitch tracking, audio broadcasts of games and a heck of a lot more.

MLB At Bat 2MLB At Bat 3MLB at Bat
If that isn’t enough, T-Mobile is also sponsoring the MLB FanFest during All-Star Week, which takes place July 10th-14th in CinCinnati, Ohio. During that week T-Mobile customers will have exclusive access to discounted tickets for FanFast along with other unique benefits.

So, if you’re a Baseball fan and a T-Mobile customer, then you best get the app installed today.

T-Mobile’s Galaxy S6 Edge receiving Android 5.1.1 OTA update

Samsung_Galaxy_S6_Edge_Front_Top_Samsung_Logo_TASamsung usually isn’t the quickest when it comes to Android update, but it looks like they’ve worked some magic with T-Mobile, as the Galaxy S6 Edge is now receiving the Android 5.1.1 update over the air. Only the Edge variant on T-Mobile specifically is seeing the update, but that might just mean that the normal S6 (and other carrier models) will join the party soon.

Android 5.1.1 doesn’t do much in terms of features, but it does bring some bug fixes and the like. This update also locks the bootloader on the device, however, so it might be something to keep an eye out for if you like to tinker with your devices.

Anybody else seeing the update?
