MetroPCS launches ‘Mexico Unlimited’ to make you feel at home in Mexico

MPCS_Mexico_Unlimited

As part of T-Mobile’s ‘Mobile without Borders’ initiative, Un-carrier’s prepaid brand MetroPCS announced its ‘Mexico Unlimited’ plan today. The new plan will allow its customers to use their mobile phones in Mexico just the way they use them at home, which means no extra roaming charge, unlimited calling and great LTE coverage in North America.

MetroPCS customers can add Mexico Unlimited to their plan on or before August 31st to get these services for free until 2016, and it will cost just $5 per month after that.

Those customers who are use a $40 or higher base rate plan can add Mexico Unlimited to their existing plan from today onward.

MetroPCS Introduces ‘Mexico Unlimited’: Call Mexico & Use Your Phone There Just Like at Home

MetroPCS customers can now enjoy calling to Mexico and coverage throughout the country at no extra charge until 2016 when you sign up before August 31st
Bellevue, Washington — July 15, 2015 —As T-Mobile’s [NYSE: TMUS] breakthrough new ‘Mobile without Borders’ launches in stores and online today extending Simple Choice coverage and calling across North America at no extra charge, MetroPCS, the Un-carrier’s flagship prepaid brand, is joining in the cross-border fun.  Today, T-Mobile launched MetroPCS Mexico Unlimited®, building on the same philosophy and partnerships behind ‘Mobile without Borders’ but tailored for MetroPCS customers. Mexico Unlimited expands MetroPCS customers’ coverage and calling throughout Mexico.  More than just a ‘roaming plan,’ Mexico Unlimited means MetroPCS customers can use their phones in Mexico just like they do at home and call Mexico all they want.

Even better, customers who add Mexico Unlimited to their plan on or before August 31st will get it at absolutely no extra charge until 2016 – and it’s just $5 per month per line after that.

“Boost and Cricket offer you exactly ZERO data coverage in Mexico, so the moment you cross the Mexican border, your phone becomes a brick as far as data’s concerned. Are they for real?” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. “MetroPCS already delivers a blazing fast prepaid LTE network, the best prepaid plans, the hottest devices, unmatched service and value. Now MetroPCS is busting down the border to deliver a great experience for data AND calling to Mexico that the other prepaid guys can’t touch.”

In the U.S, MetroPCS customers already enjoy lightning-fast 4G LTE network speeds, which are faster than Boost or Cricket (based on download speeds). And now in Mexico, partnerships with leading providers with the best networks offer 4G LTE data speeds throughout the country everywhere these networks reach.

MetroPCS customers with a $40 or higher base rate plan can add Mexico Unlimited at MetroPCS stores or online starting today, and it couldn’t be simpler to use.  Here’s how it works:

While in the U.S. you get:

  • Unlimited mobile to mobile and landline calls to Mexico
  • Unlimited texting to Mexico (and most other countries worldwide)

While in Mexico you get:

  • Unlimited mobile to mobile and landline calls to virtually anywhere in the U.S. and Mexico
  • Unlimited texting to the U.S.
  • Unlimited data (straight from your 4G LTE data plan)

T-Mobile is amping the deal for family plans

These days it’s typical that the data associated with carrier family plans are shared.  While it may work for some families, others with more data-hungry members may result in complication and overages.  As of late, T-Mobile has been looking at how to aid specific pain-points in the industry, and this stab to the carrier family plan strategy is the latest.

Today, T-Mobile is launching a family plan offer that allows 4 members to get 10GB of data each for a total of $120/month.  Another way to look at it is $30 a line, which is a crazy deal when you consider that lines start at $50/month with only 1GB of data.

tmobile_family_plan

T-Mobile comes up with that total $120/month price as a result of making the 4th line free.  The base deal is really $100 for 2 lines and $20 for each line after that.

tmobile_family_pricing

And if someone on the plan needs more data, it’s $10/month extra to double the data to 20GB, per line.  This all of course includes Simple Choice benefits, such as unlimited talk/text, no data count for music streaming, data roll-over, and no charge in Mexico or Canada.

But this pricing is in fact a promotion, not permanent.  It is available until September 7th.  Is this enough to move you out of your current shared plan?

T-Mobile’s new family plan offers four lines of service with 10GB of data each for $120

T-Mobile logo Shutterstock

T-Mobile has just announced a new family plan that aims to give customers more data for a cheaper price point. The new Simple Choice Family Plan offers two lines of service for $100 per month, which includes 10GB of 4G LTE data for each line. Each additional line costs $20 more per month, making the standard price for this four-person plan a low $140 per month. Each line includes unlimited talk and text, as well.

To make this plan even better, T-Mobile will give you the fourth line for free, with no expiration date, as long as you sign up before Monday, September 7th (Labor Day). So if you decide to sign up soon, the total cost of your plan will cost just $120 per month, which isn’t a bad deal in the slightest. Oh, and if 10GB somehow isn’t enough for you, T-Mobile will also let you double your data for $10 more per month for each line.

Normally family plans offer steep discounts on the monthly bill, but require users to share a pool of 4G LTE data. This can prove troublesome in certain situations, especially if your family member goes over their allotted portion. With the new Simple Choice Family Plan users don’t share data, which is arguably the way it should work.

This offer also includes past Un-carrier promotions such as Data Stash and the ability to use 4G LTE and voice calling in Canada and Mexico at no extra cost. This news comes after the carrier announced its new Jump! On Demand program that allows users to upgrade their smartphones up to three times per year.

If you’re interested in checking out these new plans for yourself, head to this link to get more information. The plans go live Wednesday, July 7th.

T-Mobile’s latest family plan gives everyone 10GB of full-speed data

T-Mobile CEO John Legere

You knew T-Mobile wasn’t going to let Sprint’s sweet family plan go unanswered, didn’t you? Sure enough, the magenta network has trotted out an upgraded Simple Choice family plan that gives two people unlimited calling, text and 10GB of full-speed data (each, not total) for the same $100 that Sprint is asking. That’s not as alluring if you regularly consume gigs upon gigs of internet content (Sprint’s data is also unlimited), but T-Mobile is also charging just $20 for every additional line instead of Sprint’s $40. If you have phone-toting kids, that could add up. This is also cheaper than what you’d get at AT&T or Verizon, where you’re looking at $140 or more to give a family of four 10GB of shared data. You’ll have to wait a day (until July 15th) to change plans if you’re already a T-Mo family subscriber, but it’s probably worth the short wait. Just don’t tell Marcelo Claure that.

T-Mobile giving family plan customers 10GB of data for each line

samsung_galaxy_s6_t-mobile_ice_cream

Family plans can be very costly because carriers typically do not create any value for more lines. The trend right now is for carriers to offer a large pool of shared data so that overages are less likely to occur. This seems like a good idea until one or two people burn through the data and everyone else is left with little wiggle room. T-Mobile, which never serves customers with overages, is expanding upon its family plan by giving each line un-shared data. Actually, the carrier is giving each line a massive amount of un-shared data.

T-Mobile will give each line 10GB of data on its 4G LTE network; therefore, a family plan with four lines will cost only $120 per month. And the carrier’s new Mobile Without Borders expansion is included for each line as well.

T-Mobile CEO John Legere provided his take on the decision to give family plan lines so much data:

“It’s no surprise Verizon’s spent what looks to be over $100 million in just two months promoting an $80 data plan with 10GB everyone has to share. The catch is, it’s not actually an $80 plan. You can’t actually use any of that data until you pay additional ‘line access’ fees for data you’ve already bought. So, when they say $80, they actually charge a family of four at least $140. And that’s to share 10GB. Leave it to Verizon to push a plan that gives you a pile of data you can’t use unless you fork over more hidden fees.”

The nation’s Un-carrier, of course, did not waste the opportunity to bash a competitor:

t-mobile_family_plan_amped_up_against_verizon_more_everything

From now through September 7, people can sign up or switch to T-Mobile and get the fourth line free.

T-Mobile Amps Up its Family Plan: Family Members Get 10GB Each – for Just $30 a Line

With T-Mobile’s latest move, each and every family member gets 10GB of 4G LTE data per person — no sharing required

Everyone on this new family plan gets “Mobile without Borders,” calling, texting and high-speed data throughout the U.S., Mexico & Canada at no extra cost

Bellevue, Washington — July 14, 2015 — In the latest in its series of Un-carrier Amped announcements,     T-Mobile [NYSE: TMUS] again took direct aim at the carriers’ shared data schemes and punitive overages. Today, T-Mobile unveiled yet another industry-rocking move, serving up 10GB of 4G LTE for each and everydata-hungry family member at an unprecedented price.

With the new offer, two people can get up to 10 GB of 4G LTE data each – no sharing required – for just $100 a month.  Then, each additional line is just $20 more per person – also with 10 GB of T-Mobile’s blazing-fast 4G LTE. As always every line includes unlimited data, talk and text as well as all the Un-carrier™ benefits like no annual service contracts, no overages, data and texting when traveling internationally in over 120 countries at no extra charge, Music Freedom, Wi-Fi calling and texting, Data Stash™, and − as of just last week − calling and coverage to and from the U.S., plus Mexico & Canada included at no extra cost.

And, as a promotion to celebrate this latest Un-carrier Amped move, customers can get the fourth lineabsolutely free, with no expiration date, when you sign up or switch to the plan from now through Labor Day. That means a family of four can get 10 GB of 4G LTE for each person for just $120 per month – no sharing, no games, no kidding. That’s only $30 per line – an absolutely unbeatable price.

“It’s no surprise Verizon’s spent what looks to be over $100 million in just two months promoting an $80 data plan with 10GB everyone has to share. The catch is, it’s not actually an $80 plan. You can’t actually use any of that data until you pay additional ‘line access’ fees for data you’ve already bought,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. “So, when they say $80, they actually charge a family of four at least $140. And that’s to share 10GB. Leave it to Verizon to push a plan that gives you a pile of data you can’t use unless you fork over more in hidden fees.”

When you do the math on the real numbers for Verizon’s $80 shared data plan, it’s shocking. You’ll pay $80 a month for 10GB of data for everyone in the family to share. Then on top of that, the carrier will make you pay an additional $15 per line per month just to access the data you’ve already paid for. For a family of four, that comes to $140—and that’s before the shock overages you’ll end up paying unless you police your family’s data usage to keep it below the 10GB limit. Each GB beyond your limit will add another $15 to your monthly bill.

It doesn’t take a genius, right?  Compared to Verizon, T-Mobile customers get an extra 30GB to use every month for a family of four. To get that same 40GB on Verizon would cost your family $360 per month – or three times what you would pay at T-Mobile. What would your family or small business do with those savings?

“Why share Verizon’s 10GB with everyone when you can have 10GB of America’s fastest 4G LTE all to yourself?” said Legere. “The way the big carriers offer shared data is just a scheme concocted to trick customers into over-paying or to slam them with overage fees. We’re bringing sanity to family plans and peace of mind to data-hungry families—because that’s what the Un-carrier does.”

Every current Simple Choice family can switch to the new 10GB family offer starting tomorrow, and with T-Mobile’s Un-contract, they can keep their plan as long as they stay on it.

New T-Mobile Family Plan Offers Four Lines With 10 GB of Data Each at $120

T-Mobile today announced an addition to its Un-carrier line of customer perks with a new family plan aimed at providing each member of the family with 10GB of 4G LTE data per person. The base plan includes the first two family members with 10GB each at $100, and additional members coming in at $20 per person, with every line getting the usual unlimited data, talk, text, and all the normal Un-carrier perks.

t mobile family plan
Users who are interested in signing up or switching before Labor Day can get the fourth member’s line free if they sign up before the holiday, on September 7. So a four-person family can each get 10GB of data for $120 — or $30 a person — while the promotion runs.

T-Mobile compares its plan to something similar offered by Verizon, which sees its base plan requiring families to share 10GB of data each month at a price of $140. To get something more along the lines of T-Mobile’s new plan, users would have to upgrade to about $360 per month on Verizon’s model.

UCAmpedTable12
The new family plan will launch alongside the recent announcement that customers taking advantage of the Un-carrier’s “Simple Choice” plans can send and receive unlimited phone calls, text messages and use 4G LTE data in Canada and Mexico at no additional cost. T-Mobile notes that every family under the Simple Choice model can choose to switch to the Un-carrier’s new family plan beginning tomorrow, July 15.

600 MHz auction rule compromise proposed by T-Mobile’s Waxman

tmobile_waxman

As the FCC plans to vote on July 16th on rules for an incentive auction of 600 MHz spectrum, former representative Henry Waxman, now working as a lobbyist for T-Mobile, has submitted a proposed compromise to FCC chair Tom Wheeler. Waxman says the proposal,

“is not perfect. Truly balanced approaches rarely are. But this solution would do more than any other to offer expanded spectrum access where it is feasible, simplicity where it is practical and competitive safeguards where they are most needed to protect consumers.”

Some compromise is needed according to smaller carriers like T-Mobile to prevent larger carriers like Verizon and AT&T from acquiring too much spectrum. The ability of large carriers to get into reserved spectrum for small carriers may occur if certain pricing triggers are not met. The failure to see the triggers activated could occur if smaller carriers wait to submit their bids, a common tactic by buyers in auctions.

Waxman, who helped draft the legislation authorizing the 600 MHz spectrum, addressed another issue involving guard bands, or the “duplex gap,” that will exist after the auction. The FCC had originally planned to dedicate this space to WiFi, licensed broadcast news microphones, and other unlicensed uses. However, FCC staff reversed that recommendation.

Waxman is proposing the FCC use their spectrum-clearing target of 84 MHz as a trigger. If less than 84 MHz is cleared in the auction, then broadcast stations could be allowed into the duplex gap according to Waxman’s proposal.

‘Mobile without Borders’ is T-Mobile’s latest AMPED Uncarrier move

At the end of June John Legere, the CEO of T-Mobile, announced that they were about to amp up the company’s Uncarrier offerings in a new campaign. The first announcement brought word of Jump on Demand that lets you upgrade to select devices up to 3 times a year based on a lease price. The next big move from Magenta has been unveiled this morning and is dubbed ‘Mobile without Borders.’ Like the name would suggest, it turns your coverage are from a U.S. based coverage area to a North American coverage area.

For the more geographically challenged this new set-up gives you Unlimited calls, Unlimited texts and 4G LTE data coverage in Canada and Mexico now. A simpler explanation is that on July 15th you will be able to call to Canada and Mexico for no additional charges as well as travel to Canada and Mexico without any roaming charges. That includes data use from your allotment of 4G LTE data bucket.

The option comes pre-included in all Simple Choice plans, yes, that includes the unlimited plan as well. You also still get all that unlimited music streaming from the list of providers that don’t touch your data bucket. As for the LTE coverage, it isn’t everywhere and there isn’t a map to show you where you specific details on the LTE coverage, but there is a list of cities that will give you the high-speed data.

LTE coverage in Canada and MexicoAll your major tourist destinations are on the list with Mexico getting the longest list of LTE coverage. You should still have service in other location, you just won;t get that fast data connection. In the fine print we see that this isn’t for long-term use i.e. you must be a U.S. resident and the majority of your use must be in the U.S. I would imagine there is a cut off, but I don’t see it listed. In a nutshell, don’t think you can get service with a U.S. address and move to Mexico or Canada and be given service all year-long. T-Mobile also won’t let you be tricky by keeping the phone in the states and setting the call forwarding to a Canada or Mexico number. Finally, your Data Stash won’t roll into action while in Canada or Mexico either. Meaning you can’t save up months of data for your trip and stream Netflix for the week. You only get access to your plan, but if your plan is the Unlimited offering, then you have nothing to worry about.

If you watched the video then you know that John also let everyone know that there are more AMPED moves to come with one potentially on the horizon next week.

T-Mobile gains 2.1 million subscribers in Q2 2015, urges Sprint CEO to “stay in the kiddie pool”

T-Mobile logo Shutterstock

T-Mobile has been doing a great job at shaking up the wireless industry as of late, and it looks like the company’s hard work is paying off. The Un-carrier has just released a report stating that it gained 2.1 million total net customers in the second quarter of 2015, which is a 41% increase year-over-year and marks the carrier’s ninth consecutive quarter with over 1 million additions.

Additionally, the company is boasting over 1 million branded postpaid net customer additions, which is also up 11% year-over-year and marks the fourth consecutive quarter with over 1 million additions. T-Mobile also added 760,000 branded postpaid phone net customers (a 31% year-over-year increase) as well as 178,000 branded prepaid net customer additions, which marks a 75% year-over-year increase.

T-Mobile has been the fourth-largest mobile carrier in the United States for some time now, but that may all change sometime soon thanks to the carrier’s impressive Q2 numbers. Back in May, Sprint, currently the nation’s third-largest carrier, said that it had 57.1 million subscribers, compared to T-Mobile’s 56.8 million at the time. With the addition of T-Mo’s 2.1 million, we may end up seeing T-Mobile surpass Sprint in total subscriber count in the next few weeks. We’ll be sure to let you know if we hear anything more on this in the future.

As T-Mobile slowly works its way up in the ranks, John Legere, the company’s CEO, took part in an interview this morning on CNBC that may have just added some fuel to the Sprint/T-Mo rivalry.

Not too long ago, Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure took to Twitter to fire some shots at the Un-carrier, explaining that he’s tired of T-Mobile’s “Un-carrier bulls**t.” We assumed that it would only be a matter of time until John Legere fired back at Claure, and it looks like we’re finally seeing what the edgy CEO has to say.

Legere’s response aired this morning on CNBC, following T-Mobile’s big announcement that it will now allow 4G LTE and voice calling to Canada and Mexico at no extra charge. In response to Claure’s rant, Legere says that Sprint is “diving in the deep end of the pool, and Marcelo should stay in the kiddie pool.” Legere goes on to take a few more cuts at Sprint, Verizon and AT&T, which is quite entertaining.

T-Mobile is expected to give many more announcements over the next few weeks as part of its new Un-carrier Amped! initiative, and we’re certainly excited to see just how the carrier plans to shake up the industry next.
