T-Mobile drops the price of the LG G4

For those who are in the market for a new phone, and have been looking at the LG G4, we have some good news for you. T-Mobile has lowered the full retail price of the G4 from $600 to $480. Combine this with the free accessory promotion, and you can save quite a bit of money by grabbing a G4 from Big Magenta.

Considering the fact that the G4 has only been out for about 2 months, it’s a little surprising to see such a price cut for a new device. Whether this is a sign that sales haven’t been that great or not, it’s still a great deal for anyone. If you are someone who’s taking advantage of the monthly payments, you won’t see too much of a difference in your bill, with the monthly cost going from $25 a month to $20.

Let us know in the comments below whether you will be picking up a G4 for yourself, now with the price cut in tow. Also, let us know what your thoughts on why this price cut could be happening so soon after the release of the G4.

T-Mobile now selling the LG G4 for just $480

lg-g4-problems-fixes-1

LG’s flagship for 2015, the G4, has many things going for it, including support for those features which Samsung opted to leave out of the Galaxy S6: a user-replacable battery and microSD support for expandable storage. Still, the device has also received its fair share of criticism having continued the use of plastic and for selecting the Snapdragon 808 while it’s sibling the LG Flex 2 has an 810. Reports have indicated the device hasn’t be selling as well as expected. While it is difficult to say just what the motivating factors are behind T-Mobile’s decision to slash the price tag, the customer is ultimately the winner.

Starting now the G4 can be had for just $480, a savings of $120. While this may only result in a $5 decrease per-month for those opting to purchase on installment, customers paying in-full will definitely see the savings in a big way.

As if this was not good enough, the deal is still valid in combination with LG’s bonus accessory campaign wherein purchasers will receive a free battery, charger, and leather back cover provided they buy before the end of July.

Unfortunately it is unclear just how long the G4 price cut will last: it may be a permanent price cut, or it could be a limited-time offer while supplies last.

For all those interested and making use of Magenta, now is the time to act. Those who are still on the fence may feel it prudent to watch our in-depth review of the G4 and related comparison videos to determine if it’s right for you.

T-Mobile paying $17.5 million in fees for 911 outages

Having access to 911 calls is of utmost importance to Americans. Being able to make these calls in time can be the difference between life and death, so the FCC takes it very seriously when a carrier has an outage in which calls can’t be routed to the nation’s emergency line.

The latest major 911 outage came from T-Mobile, in August 8, 2014. There were a couple nationwide blackouts this day, accounting for about 3 hours of down time. That is a long time of having no 911 access, especially considering T-Mobile serves about 55 million subscribers. The number was a bit lower when the event took place, at about 50 million, but we are sure more than a few of them needed help during this outage.

t-mobile-map

T-Mobile is making amends by paying $17.5 million USD in fees. In addition, they are taking responsibility and incorporating a compliance program to strengthen their 911 network communications.

  • In particular, T-Mobile will develop and implement processes to:
  • Identify risks that could result in disruptions to 911 service;
  • Protect against such risks;
  • Detect future 911 outages;
  • Respond with remedial actions, including prompt notification to affected 911 call centers; and
  • Recover from such outages on a timely basis.

T-Mobile’s prevention methods (or lack thereof) were not the single issue in this investigation. Matters worsened upon realizing the carrier hadn’t notified affected 911 call centers in a timely fashion, which is a requisite from the FCC.

The Commission has adopted a number of rules intended to ensure seamless, ubiquitous, and reliable 911 service nationwide. These rules include the obligation for wireless carriers to implement 911 routing and delivery systems to ensure that 911 calls are transmitted to the appropriate 911 emergency call centers and to notify those call centers of 911 service outages lasting longer than 30 minutes.

John-Legere-Uncarrier-001 iDownloadBlog

That’s a hefty chunk of cash t-Mobile has to fork out, though we don’t know how significant of a fee that would be for a large carrier. Regardless, seeing them improving their systems and keeping 911 accessible is golden. T-Mobile has been doing great improving their services with Uncarrier, offering deals no other carrier ever brought to the table. I am not sure I would give up 911 for all that, though.

Did any of you happen to notice these outages last year? It would be interesting to hear your take on this.

[Deal] LG G4 is under $500 off-contact at T-Mobile

t-mobile_great_american_ballpark

Today, the LG G4 took a big price drop. On T-Mobile’s website, you can now get a brand new LG G4 off contract for only $479, 20% off of the normal $599 price. That’s a substantial discount compared to other carriers like AT&T selling the phone for $629 and Sprint who currently sells the flagship for $599. T-Mobile is also the only carrier in the United States offering the brown leather back. And, to sweeten the discount, T-Mobile is running a special offer through July 31 for an additional back cover and battery at no extra cost. The length of the discount, though, is unknown.

T-Mobile to pay $17.5 million over last year’s 911 outage

T-Mobile CEO John Legere Press Conference

To settle a Federal Communications Commission investigation into 911 outages, T-Mobile will pay $17.5 million. The FCC investigation revealed that two separate outages occurred on the carrier’s network last year, lasting around three hours total. While the incidents were separate but related, they prohibited customers from reaching emergency personnel. The outages happened last August and affected T-Mobile customers nationwide, which the FCC says would’ve kept around 50 million people from calling 911 with their mobile phones during that time. After the carrier also failed to provide timely notification about the outage (according to FCC guidelines), it promised to overhaul procedures to avoid a similar incident in the future as part of the settlement. “The Commission has no higher priority than ensuring the reliability and resilience of our nation’s communications networks so that consumers can reach public safety in their time of need,” explained FCC chairman Tom Wheeler. “Communications providers that do not take necessary steps to ensure that Americans can call 911 will be held to account.”

T-Mobile to pay $17.5 million fine to the FCC for extended 911 outages

T-Mobile_Logo_01_TA

T-Mobile has agreed to pay the US Federal Communications Commission $17.5 million in fines. The carrier was under investigation due to two separate 911 outages on the telecommunication provider’s network on August 8, 2014.

The two separate 911 outages lasted almost three hours, preventing wireless customers from reaching first responders in the event of a tragedy. Paying the $17.5 million settles the investigation, however, T-Mobile also agreed to improve its 911 service procedures and adopt compliance measures that will follow the FCC’s 911 guidelines for better handling of an outage like this in the future.

As per the FCC:

In its investigation, the Enforcement Bureau found that T-Mobile did not provide timely notification of the August 8, 2014, outages to all affected 911 call centers, as required by FCC rules. The investigation also found that the outages would have been avoided if T-Mobile had implemented appropriate safeguards in its 911 network architecture.

This new move from T-Mobile should enable it to more quickly find and patch up risks of 911 outages and provide a better and quicker system of notifying officials and call centers about future disruptions.

In recent news, the FCC has decided to delay its decision on rules for the 600MHz wireless spectrum auction, as T-Mobile is making a big push for the FCC to reserve half of it for smaller carriers.
