T-Mobile publishes list of devices to receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow update
While Nexus owners revel in the Android 6.0 Marshmallow goodness in the form of both OTA‘s and download links, the rest of us wait to find out when, or indeed, if, our devices will ever be updated. The US carrier, T-Mobile, has published a list that consists almost entirely of flagship devices that will be updated to Android 6.0, the details of which are after the break.
T-Mobile has included the Nexus 5/6/7 and 9 models in the list, with the Marshmallow update being available for all of them except the Nexus 6, which T-Mobile has yet to approve. The delay is probably down to the carrier requesting WiFi-calling to be included in the firmware. You may notice that there are no Sony devices in the list, whatsoever. Let’s hope the Xperia Z3’s exclusion is merely an oversight and not an indication it will be marooned on Android 5.1.1 lollipop.
It’s a three-stage process, with the devices starting off in Manufacturer Development; which is where the handset makers develop the update, which then proceeds to the second-stage where T-Mobile evaluates the update. And finally, the only part that most of us care about, the third stage sees the update released to the handset.
Is your handset on the list? Let us know in the comments.

T-Mobile details which devices will see Android 6.0 Marshmallow
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Earlier today Google released the coveted Android 6.0 Marshmallow factory images for the Nexus line of devices. While a good number of you out there are all about the Nexus and more than capable of installing the images on to your devices, there are still plenty of standard users out there who use other devices. If you are a T-Mobile subscriber then you might be curious as to which devices will be making the cut from Magenta. While the list might not surprise some, it is still good to have handy as a bit of a secondary confirmation. After all, a manufacturer could say they are going to make the update available, but it is still on the carrier to push it out.
In the case of Magenta they offer up a pretty nifty little page that keeps users more informed than some carriers out there. The page lists out devices along with the current stage of the update. It doesn’t offer up any time lines as to when an update is expected to move tot he next stage or when the update may become available, but if you check in frequently you could be surprised by a “Complete” status and begin mashing the update button.
Unsurprisingly we see the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 and Nexus 9
all being on the list. Remember, T-Mobile, along with AT&T and others carried some carrier versions of the devices as well. The rest of the list is as follows:
Samsung
- Galaxy S5
- Galaxy S6
- Galaxy S6 Edge
- Galaxy S6 Edge+
- Galaxy Note 4
- Galaxy Note 5
- Galaxy Tab S2
LG
- G3
- G4
- G Stylo
HTC
- One M8
- One M9
Some devices, like the Galaxy Note 4, you see additional details. For instance, the T-Mobile Note 4 hasn’t seen Android 5.1.1 because it is skipping straight to Android 6.0.
I will keep my eyes peeled for all my Magenta sporting friends for updates to as many of these devices as possible. Hopefully they will all be coming sooner rather than later. However, we have seen some updates take quite a while in the past.

Soon you’ll be able to get Cricket Wireless at your local Target
For those interested in switching to Cricket Wireless, we have some good news for you. Within the next month, starting October 25th, Cricket Wireless will start rolling out to a Target near you.
We all know that trying to find the right place to get our wireless devices can be a pain, but when they are located in large retail chains like Walmart, Best Buy, and Target, the search is lessened. Cricket is planning to bring their wireless plans and devices to close to 1,600 different Target locations, as well as through Target’s online retail site.
Recently, Cricket has been trying to make waves in the carrier world, by offering such options as a credit to those who switch from T-Mobile or MetroPCS. Whether those attempts to gain ground have been futile or not, haven’t really played themselves out. Regardless, seeing Cricket make the move into a big-box retail store, will surely help the business.
Along with the name, Cricket is bringing some great options for plans to consumers that may or may not even know they exist. Here are some of the benefits that they are boasting:
- More nationwide 4G LTE coverage than T-Mobile, Sprint, Boost or MetroPCS
- Plans starting at $35/month after $5 AutoPay credit, all in, with taxes/fees included
- “Bring Your Own Device” Universal SIM Card Kit for compatible devices
- Unlimited texts and calls to and from the US, Mexico and Canada on a Smart or Pro plan
- Compelling selection of smartphones from HTC, LG, Samsung and ZTE ranging from $49.99 – $129.99
So if you’ve been in the market for a new plan, Cricket Wireless may be the best option for your mobile carrier needs.
Let us know what you think about Cricket Wireless moving into Target locations, and what kind of experiences you’ve had.

AT&T says competitors launched WiFi calling without FCC clearance
While Sprint and T-Mobile have already flipped the switch on WiFi calling for the iPhone, AT&T continues to wait it out on the sidelines. And now we may know why. As reported by The Verge, the carrier recently sent a letter to FCC chairman Tom Wheeler accusing competitors of launching the feature without legitimate approval from the government agency. AT&T’s Legal Senior Vice President, James Ciccioni, claims Sprint and T-Mobile started offering WiFi calling even though the FCC hadn’t granted a support waiver for teletypewriter communications, also known as TTY — which are typically required for providing accessibility services.
As a result, Cicconi says, AT&T had to make the choice of a) doing what the other networks did or b) come up with an alternative. That eventually led the company to add support for a real-time-text solution, but the FCC hasn’t yet accepted it as a proper replacement for TTY; it was AT&T’s goal to have WiFi calling ahead of the iOS 9 launch. In the letter to the FCC, Cicconi said: “Because the commission has not granted AT&T’s waiver petition we are not in a position to provide WiFi calling services to our customers even while our competitors provide those services in defiance of the commission’s rules.”
Once the FCC grants said request, if it does, AT&T should be able to bring WiFi calling to compatible iPhones.

15 million T-Mobile customers have their data stolen
In an a letter to customers, T-Mobile CEO John Legere has responded to reports that 15 million customers have had their data stolen by hackers. The fault comes from Experian, “a vendor that processes our credit applications” states Legere. He goes on to explain that T-Mobile’s systems seem to have escaped being breached and no payment information like credit card numbers or bank account information was among the stolen data. Hackers have gained data on anyone who has had a credit check run from September 1, 2013 until September 16, 2015.
““The investigation is ongoing, but what we know right now is that the hacker acquired the records of approximately 15 million people, including new applicants requiring a credit check for service or device financing from September 1, 2013 through September 16, 2015,”“
Included in the stolen data are names, addresses, and birth dates as well as encrypted fields with Social Security Numbers and ID numbers (such as driver’s license or passport numbers). According to Experian, it’s possible, that the encryption may be able to be broken. In response to the breach, Experian is offering two free years of credit monitoring and identity resolution services.
At least 15 million customers, the T-Mobile/Experian data breach is the third worst of 2015 following only Anthem (80 million) and The US Office of Personnel Management (21.5 million). Experian explains in a statement that a customer node was compromised but made sure to point out that its consumer credit bureau was unaffected. Experian notified both US and International authorities of the breach which happened two weeks ago and was discovered within two days of the initial intrusion.

“Obviously I am incredibly angry about this data breach and we will institute a thorough review of our relationship with Experian, but right now my top concern and first focus is assisting any and all consumers affected. I take our customer and prospective customer privacy VERY seriously.” wrote Legere.
It’s still too early to predict the fallout from the situation but we’ll keep you updated as the story continues to unfold.

T-Mobile Kicks it into Overdrive with LG V10 – pre-register now

If you haven’t seen the specs for the new LG V10 yet, it’s looking like one of the contending no-compromise Android devices of the fall lineup. Fortunately, T-Mobile has announced that they will be launching the device once it becomes available.
The V10 boasts a sturdy frame made of SAE grade 316L stainless steel and a back cover of super grippy, super scratch-resistant DuraSkin plastic, making it a perfect option for someone who needs a device that can endure more wear-and-tear than your average phone.
What’s more is that the LG V10 has not two, but three high definition cameras. The two front-facing cameras actually work together in an elegant solution to create wide-angle selfies without that awful fishbowl effect.
Another cool thing about the LG V10 is its always-on second screen that runs across the top like a ticker, displaying notifications and offering customizable app shortcuts. You can know what’s going on in a glance without having to power up and unlock your device or exit out of your favorite app or game.

Altogether, the LG V10’s specs combine to make a serious badass of a travel companion. It focuses on durability and high video quality, which is exactly what you want if you’re touring Athens or hiking the Appalachians. It also has features that allow you to instantly upload photos, videos, and automatically generated highlight reels to social media.
And what else do you need when you’re traveling abroad and documenting your experiences on the web?
Data. Lots and lots of data.
Many of life’s best moments are captured while you’re traveling, and T-Mobile offers unlimited data in texting in over 140 countries. U.S. T-Mobile subscribers are also covered with 4G LTE data and unlimited calls and texts at the same rates as in the States, so if you’re an American who likes to hop the border for vacation, T-Mobile might be a good carrier option for you.
The carrier is now offering pre-registration for the LG V10. Anyone excited about the V10, who is due for an upgrade, or is looking to change carriers in the near future, should head over and check it out.
LG V10 pre-registration opens at T-Mobile
LG introduced a new and interesting high-end device late last night. Dubbed the LG V10, it has all of the innards of the LG G4, but offers something unique: two front screens and dual selfie cameras. There’s no set availability date for the phone, but T-Mobile is letting customers pre-register to get an email when the LG V10 is available.
As quick refresher, here’s some of the specifications the new LG V10 is rocking:
- Android 5.1.1 Lollipop
- 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560×1440) IPS Quantum display with a secondary 2.1-inch (160x 1040) IPS Quantum display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor (64-bit)
- 4GB of RAM
- 64GB Internal storage
- MicroSD card slot for up to an extra 2TB
- 16MP rear camera with F1.8 Aperture and OIS 2.0
- 5MP front dual-lens camera
- Battery: 3,000mAh (removable)
- Quick Charge 2.0
- Colors: Space Black / Luxe White / Modern Beige / Ocean Blue / Opal Blue
As for the two screens, it has the main 5.7-inch Quad HD 2560 x 1440 IPS Quantum display, and then it has the secondary 2.1-inch 160 x 1040 screen. The secondary display is “always on,” showing notifications, weather, time, and other information while the main display is off. When the main display is on, it provides quick access to apps, serves up notifications and more.
Anyone plan on picking one up at T-Mobile?

Experian Hack Affects Millions of T-Mobile Customers
Experian today announced that one of its business units experienced a serious data breach, with hackers acquiring personal information for approximately 15 million T-Mobile users, as T-Mobile was the Experian client that was affected by the hack.
While credit card information was not obtained, data acquired from T-Mobile customers includes names, dates of birth, addresses, and Social Security numbers. In some cases, ID like a drivers’ license or passport number was acquired, in addition to other information T-Mobile uses for credit assessments.
T-Mobile customers who applied for T-Mobile postpaid services between September 1, 2013 and September 16, 2015 were affected. Experian is notifying T-Mobile customers whose data was obtained and offering them two years of credit monitoring and identity protection through ProtectMyID.
T-Mobile CEO John Legere has penned a letter to customers about the breach and on Twitter, Legere says T-Mobile is looking into alternate service protection options that will be implemented shortly.
Obviously I am incredibly angry about this data breach and we will institute a thorough review of our relationship with Experian, but right now my top concern and first focus is assisting any and all consumers affected. I take our customer and prospective customer privacy VERY seriously. This is no small issue for us. I do want to assure our customers that neither T-Mobile’s systems nor network were part of this intrusion and this did not involve any payment card numbers or bank account information.
According to Experian, steps have been taken to prevent additional attacks, and there has been no evidence thus far that the data “has been used inappropriately.”
