Marilyn Manson released his latest album on early PlayStation CDs
The ’90s are back in style, in more ways than one. Kill Screen has revealed that Marilyn Manson released his latest album (The Pale Emperor) on the black CDs used for original PlayStation games, made in the same Sony plant. No, they’re not meant to rekindle two of your fondest teenage memories. Manson’s art directors chose these discs because they help underscore the album’s themes of darkness and light. They start out pitch black, but a newly-added thermal layer turns them white when you play them — clever, isn’t it? With that said, you’ll probably have a hard time appreciating this thematic trick. While you might still be a Marilyn Manson fan, the odds are that you ditched CD-based music a while ago.

Sony may market Xperia Z4 as Xperia Z3+ outside of Japan
Last week Sony launched a new device in Japan that they called the Sony Xperia Z4. Unfortunately, the reception to the new device was tempered when it became clear that Sony had not changed much compared to the Xperia Z3. The design of the two devices is basically the same with the only real differences being the chipset, front-facing camera, and the USB charging port. Perhaps due to that cool reception, Sony may choose a different name for the device when it eventually hits other markets around the globe, possibly the Xperia Z3+.
The source for this alternative name comes from a document for a case for the Xperia Z4. The list of compatible devices for the case lists “Xperia Z4/Z3+”. Since there have been no rumors for another device based off the Xperia Z3 and given that the case will work with the Xperia Z4, sources think the odds are good Sony is planning to use the Xperia Z3+ name outside the Japanese market. That should please some who see the Xperia Z4 as just a minor iteration of the Xperia Z3, although it may create some naming issues for Sony down the road as they try to get their Japanese product line in sync with the rest of the global market.

Will the Xperia Z4 be rebranded as the Z3+ for international markets?
Could this device be released as the Xperia Z3+ when and if it sees international release?
When Sony announced the Xperia Z4 last week, it was met with disdain from almost everyone, some of our staff included. While the device arguably makes perfect sense for the Japanese market it’s intended for, the international community has been in a heightened state of agitation. The Z4, as it stands now, has some minor internal updates over its predecessor (namely the Snapdragon 810) but uses the exact same camera sensor as the Z3 along with a design that many feel is rehashed despite (admittedly subtle) changes.
Sony has yet to announce the Z4 for an international release yet, and if a new leak proves to be accurate, it seemingly won’t be for some time yet. Take a look:
The above picture allegedly comes from one of the packaging inserts contained with an official accessory for the Z4, the SCR30 Style Cover Window. As can be seen at the top, an “Xperia Z3+” is listed. Provided this leak is accurate, it would suggest that Sony is planning to rebrand the Z4 when it hits international markets.
The name change actually makes perfect sense, as fans have been hearing that the company is planning to make a major move with its next mainstay flagship, as well as reduce the release cycle to an annual basis. Just last week, we took a look at what such a “premium” flagship might look like when we asked readers to design it themselves.

Still, many will be quick to argue that this new naming nomenclature will create confusion within the company and its home country: what happens if the “real” Z4 releases in a few weeks or months? The solution is quite simple, really: All Sony has to do is rebrand the product in Japan. It could be called the “Xperia Z Neo” or “Xperia Z DX” and, assuming it’s the radically redesigned product so many are hoping for, the new name might be the perfect way to distance itself from the “Z” of old. The reverse might also be true: perhaps there will be no Z4 at all overseas and the new product will have a totally new name.
While many Sony fans are no doubt still a bit sour with the latest and greatest, assuming the name change is the real deal, would it reduce some of the resentment?
Could it be true: The Sony Xperia P2 is a sexy looking, beast of a flagship device

Despite how much of the Sony Xperia Z4 had leaked before its official announcement, we were still kind of surprised that it was announced as a Japan-only device. A global release of the device was hinted at, though we kind of assumed it would just be the same device with a slightly different configuration. However, a rumour has dropped today that this device isn’t simply going to be the same, but a completely differently designed device called the Sony Xperia P2. As the images below no doubt point out, the Xperia P2 is actually a fantastically good-looking device (if true) and harnesses its screen-to-bezel ration far better than the Xperia Z4 (a long time criticism of the series).
The rumour goes on to detail the specs of this Xperia P2 which includes a Snapdragon 810, 3GB RAM, 5.2-inch 1080p display, 12.1MP rear camera, 5.1MP front camera and 4,240mAh battery. That’s a very impressive resume, and one that we’d gladly take – the step down in rear camera is notable, but if it gives birth to that device, we’ll take it. Of course, this is all just hearsay right now, so make sure to take this all in with a grain of salt, but a global Xperia device is due for launch at the end of May, so we’ll just have to wait this one out for a little longer.

Sony Xperia P2 leaks: Fantastic phone for a great price
Earlier today, a leaked press render along with a set of alleged specifications appeared online for Sony’s long-awaited, high-spec, budget-friendly smartphone, the Xperia P2.
The P2 is believed to sport a 5.2-inch Full HD Triluminous display, a 1.6GHz Snapdragon 810 CPU, 3GB of RAM, a 12.1-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 4,240 mAh battery.
As can be seen in the images below, the P2 doesn’t feature the usual bezel’s either side of the display. Instead, the screen glass is beveled round the edges at a thickness of 0.8mm, which allows for a more compact design.

Sony working on special India-only entry level smartphone strategy
Sony is working a special strategy for the smartphone market in India says managing director Kenichiro Hibi. The need for a special strategy is driven by Sony’s larger move as a company to get out of the entry level smartphone market on a global basis. However, India is the fastest growing smartphone market in the world, even faster growing than China, and entry level smartphones rule the roost. This means Sony has to continue to produce them for that market if they want to compete in India.
Hibi says Sony will look to replicate the success they have had with televisions in India. For the LED television market, Sony started producing “small screen” televisions in the 22-inch to 24-inch range. This produced instant positive results for the company which now claims 30% of the market share.
In the smartphone market, Sony claimed 10% of the market last year, which is actually not bad considering there are about 100 manufacturers in play. Hibi says, “we have to launch such models in India to survive in this tough market…” referring to smartphone models in the Rs 8,000 – 10,000 range (about $126 – $158 USD). Analysts think Sony could eventually lay claim to 15% of the market if they succeed with their strategy.
Hibi not only plans to stay in the Indian market with entry level phones, he hopes to produce the phones in India as part of a Made in India strategy. Hibi indicates he will be presenting a strategy for the Indian market to Sony’s global president and chief executive Kazuo Hirai this week.

Leak points to Xperia P successor with high-end specs and a 4,240 mAh battery
Remember the Xperia P? We don’t blame you if you don’t. The device launched in February 2012 along the Xperia U and it was supposed to be the “middle child” in Sony’s NXT trio of devices. The mid-ranger received a tepid welcoming and it soon faded off the radar, especially after Sony adopted a brand new design concept with the Xperia Z.
Now if a report out of China is accurate, Sony could be resurrecting the Xperia P line in the form of the P2: a device sporting a similar design, top specs, and a massive 4,240 mAh battery.
The leak consists of an alleged render of the device, along with specifications and precise dimensions.

The Xperia P2 will reportedly feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage space, a 5.2-inch Full HD display, a 12.1MP rear camera, a 5.1MP front camera, and a positively huge 4,240 mAh battery.
If these specs are true and there really is a P2 coming, the device would be a dream machine for many users. That battery alone would put the Xperia P2 in very select company.

According to the leaked schematics, the device will be between 8.9 mm and 10.9 mm thick, suggesting there will be a curved back. It’s been years since any Android flagship went over 10 mm in thickness, but with a battery like that, the compromise may be worth it.
Now let’s talk design – the leak claims the P2 will feature a design that closely resembles the 2012 Xperia P (and S, and U), with a “chin” at the bottom separated from the screen by what appears to be a metallic strip. The big difference is the almost edge-to-edge screen, resembling the Sharp Aquos Crystal, with a slightly higher bezel at the top, hosting the front camera and a speaker.
Now, there’s nothing that screams “fake” about this leak, but we’re a bit skeptical that it’s real and accurate. Why would Sony reuse a three-year old design that has failed to really impress users the fast time around? And why would Sony complicate its life by releasing another high-end smartphone besides the Xperia Z4?
You could argue that Sony is just trying to shake things up, and that it hopes that a thick device with a massive battery will stand on its own and not cannibalize the Xperia Z line.
Or, this leak is just another wild goose chase.
Tell us what you think about this Xperia P2 leak? Credible or not? Would you buy it if Sony made it?
Sony wants a piece of the entry-level Indian market

Sony announced it will focus on the high-end segment in order to bring its smartphone business to profit, but it seems the company is willing to make exceptions for markets such as India, where low prices are essential.
Speaking to ET Tech, Sony India managing director Kenichiro Hibi said Sony is planning to compete in the cutthroat Indian entry-level market against opponents like Xiaomi, Asus, Motorola, and Google’s Android One, and dozens of local players. Because India is growing at a fast pace, Sony sees the country as “completely different” from the global market, so it’s going to release phones costing Rs 8,000-10,000 ($125 to $160), a range Sony doesn’t target in other countries.
In order to target the low-price segment, Sony considers releasing devices that are exclusive to India and manufacturing phones locally.

Sony’s latest launch in India is the Xperia E4g, an LTE variant of the mid-range Xperia E4 listed in India Rs 13,290 ($213). While relatively inexpensive, the E4g (and other devices Sony may launch here) faces stiff competition. Just last week, for instance, Xiaomi introduced the arguably superior Xiaomi Mi 4i at a starting price of Rs. 12,999.
As for the global market, Sony raised some eyebrows with the Japan-only Xperia Z4, while the company is doubling down on marketing the Xperia Z3 in the rest of the world.

Sony Xperia Z3 back in T-Mobile shelves again
The Sony Xperia Z3 went surprisingly missing from T-Mobile’s online store recently. We figured that the smartphone was gone for good. But it’s clearly not the case as the 2014 Sony flagship has now made a comeback on the carrier’s site.
The Xperia Z3 on T-Mobile is also more affordable now with the price now standing at $499.99, down from $630. So it seems like T-Mobile and Sony are making a conscious effort to ensure that the smartphone does well in the U.S. market. The Xperia Z3 is also available through Verizon Wireless under the Xperia Z3v moniker.
The smartphone comes with a 5.2 inch 1080p display, a 20.7-megapixel camera on the back, a 2.2-megapixel front camera, a quad core 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage (expandable up to 128GB), Android 5.0 Lollipop and a 3,100 mAh battery.
Head over to the link below to get the Xperia Z3 from T-Mobile.
